I never realised you can buy clothes and stuff off of Amazon. One of my favourite online shops is conected to amazon. Huzzah being able to buy things through your browser.
Stupid working 7 days a week on top of school. Oh how I can't wait for the day that I get to go shopping in a real store. In the mean times its good to know you can buy regular stuff off amazon, bit sad I didn't know before.

Yep, they've got all kinds of things on there. They have definitely branched out.
Don't forget the search boxes

Does anyone else remember the day we investigated some of the more... entertaining Amazon items in IRC?
Mata

What were they?

The letters N, S, F and W spring to mind. I believe the object featured in the B3ta newsletter a while ago, and was possibly offered as a prize in the lent challenge.
Far more importantly though, I just ordered something through amazon and REMEMBERED TO GO THROUGH THE LINKS ON THIS SITE.

What happened to waiting until your birthday?
I used the links when I ordered a few cds a few weeks ago! I'm rubbish at remembering them, I tend to order something then think *argh! The links!" Sorry Mata.

My Birthday is miles away. I can't wait that long. I did manage to restrict myself to a single book and no CDs. I am so proud.

Totally. Always. Though not to any new music, sadly.

Someone has been buying guitar lesson books, so I figured that might be you.
Novander
Apr 26 2006, 03:45 PM
No; I tried learning guitar once, but it wasn't happening for me. My fingers don't move like I want them to. I bought the new edition of the
Exalted RPG.
Mata
Apr 27 2006, 06:16 AM
Ah yes, that's turned up on the list now.
Someone else has decided to buy 'Total Rock Guitar: A Complete Guide to Learning Rock Guitar with CD (Audio)', and 'Guitar for Dummies (For Dummies S.)'.

If you don't mind me asking, how much money do you make from the amazon banners?
Mata
May 1 2006, 10:40 PM
Around 5% of whatever a person spends as a result of that shopping trip. If you put £10 of stuff in your shopping cart and pay for it within the next three months (or something like that amount of time) then I get 50p. It's not a lot, but it adds up after a while.

I recently bought a book of poetry- Staying Alive- Real Poetry For Unreal Times, for my mum's birthday, AND I used the links. Hooray!
Unfortunately, it wasn't very expensive.

20 pence here and there add up over time. Thanks for remembering my links!

Just bumping this thread because I will be making a big big big order through amazon soon, and this should help me remember to use the links at the bottom of the page.
I've already added a load of things into my basket and I'm going through now removing them and re-adding them using the links.
But curse it, I have to wait until my birthday present from my brother arrives before I know what I can and cannot buy.
Mata
Aug 24 2006, 09:55 PM
Thanks Nov

Are you buying anything particularly cool?
Novander
Aug 24 2006, 10:42 PM
Probably.
Because I'm currently so far from my family, they (almost) all decided it would just be easier to give me amazon vouchers for my birthday. Hello £100 which I have no choice but to spend on luxury items. And then, not wanting to buy me something I'd also be getting from someone else, the most awesomely lovely snoo added another £25 worth of vouchers on top of that.
I reckon I can afford to spend a little bit of my own money as well, so we're probably looking at an amazon order worth around £150. Right now I'm surfing amazon trying to find interesting looking CDs by bands I've never heard of just because I can.
Mata
Aug 25 2006, 06:44 AM
Hehe, yep, that sounds like the average purchase by people using my links. I've never heard of most of them.
Bright Morning - Jeniferever
Dusk and Summer - Dashboard Confessional
Hardly anyone has used the links to buy anything in the last couple of months, so that's not a great example. Those are the only bits of music people have ordered, and I have at least heard of Dashboard Confessional. They're vaguely emo aren't they?
Novander
Aug 25 2006, 09:21 AM
They're generally considered emo, as are Jeniferever.
That was snoo, that order was, btw

I'm guessing he didn't order a whole load of Bible-related books a couple of days ago then? That probably ranks among the 'least expected selection of books' that someone could buy after coming to this site... Maybe I put the fear of God in them?

I used them to order a bunch of fashion books for my mums (who is going back to design school) a while back. Did that show up?

That reminds me, I've got one or two books to get through there for Uni. I'll slap myself if I don't remember to use the links.

Teapot: yes please!

Aug 30 2006, 05:48 PM
Okay, I've made the bulk of my order. I've still got to buy a few things through amazon partners. Do you still get money for them?
If all this stuff does show up you should be getting over £5 from me, which'll stop me from feeling guilty about costing you money with all the posts in the games forum I made when I first joined the boards
Mata
Aug 31 2006, 07:15 AM
Wow! Thanks

There's around 14 new items on the list, so I'm guessing that I got credit for everything you bought. Good choice with 'House of Leaves', 'tis a very interesting book.
'Dear Diary, My Teenage Angst Has A Bodycount' has to be the best album title I've heard all year!
Novander
Aug 31 2006, 11:09 AM
Yep, that was my order.
I'm getting House of Leaves because of the recommendations from people on this board, and that album title alone makes my order more emo than snoo's.
Was the Appleseed Cast - Two Conversations listed? That's the only one I ordered through amazon partners.
Mata
Aug 31 2006, 12:56 PM
Yes, that one was creditted too. I'm finding that they're generally pretty good about that kind of thing.
Thanks again for doing this, you have tripled the number of UK orders in the past three months!

Aug 31 2006, 01:29 PM
There may even be one more to come.
Between putting it in the basket a few days ago and actually heading to the checkout yesterday, Amazon decided to stop selling Easyworld - Kill The Last Romantic directly, and when I tried to buy it through their partners, it kept giving me error messages. I'm going to try again now, but I don't have high hopes.
Edit: ahar, it did work this time, though you won't be getting much money from it

I don't recall saying that, but it does sound suspiciously like me.
I almost bought another CD just now. It's getting very close to addiction. I mean, even with P+P it's under £10, and easyworld was cheaper than I expected it to be, so really I'd only be spending an extra £5...
But if I get Laura, then I'll want to get Minus The Bear as well and if I get Minus The Bear, I'll probably decide that while I'm there, I could get Cap'n Jazz and so forth
I am curious, however, to find out which I'd run out of first: money or CDs to spend money on.

The eternal question. I have my suspicions, though I wouldn't dare ruin your efforts at finding out.
I've just realized that the exchange rate means that Mata is getting very, very little when I spend lots. Shucks. You Brits really ought to do something about our failing economy. Come on--you managed it in the 1700's.
Mata
Sep 1 2006, 12:02 PM
Yep, buying stuff from the US is like a half-price sale for us at the moment. Your economy is completely screwed. I'm looking at getting myself a lovely new graphics tablet. In the UK it costs about £280 (around $560ish dollars), and in the US it costs $280 (around £140). The saving, even after shipping, is incredible!
I get around 4-5% or whatever is spent after starting a search from the links, so an album in the UK might get me 50p, but in the US it gets me about 25p, but either way it's still additional income that the site wouldn't have otherwise, and when lots of people use the links the money does begin to add up. For example, I've been saving up the US vouchers for the last couple of years and they will be paying for about two-thirds of the new graphics tablet. Yay!
If anyone's interested I'm going to get myself a 6x8 Wacom Intuos3. Mmmm...

I always wonder, if you buy something on Amazon (say a graphics tablet) would you get some of the money back for using your own links?

Nope, I'd probably have the facility removed.

I shall be buying several text books for school (because they're cheap and don't supply them) but whenever I use Amazon, something else always catches my eye and I end up buying it too. Bad for me but good for you.

ahar. That explains why I couldn't find it on the board. But strangely, while searching for it I did discover that there used to be a different Circle Takes The Square fan inhabiting these boards. And as these boards are partially responsible for my discovering CTTS I'd like to think that I have inherited the position of Official Matazone CTTS Fan, and that should I ever leave these boards, another person will rise up and claim the position.
So I'm going to leave that key phrase "emo kid at heart" here for my successor to find.
