I saw Spamalot last night, and, being an avid fan of the Pythons, it pains me to say, that it just wasn't that good. I know some of you have seen it so what were your views on it?

I liked the songs, and pretty much all of Act 1 was good, but it just totally fell apart in Act 2, though I accept that the ltter parts of Holy Grail weren't exactly coherent. Probably part of the reason I disliked it was that I'm in Toronto, so the actors are all Canadian or American, and their accents and delivery just don't sound right to me. They had me grinning with lines that, if for example John Cleese was saying, would have had me rolling on the floor.

That said, Song That Goes Like This, You'll Never Make it on Broadway (If You Don't Have Any Jews) and Not Dead Yet are masterpieces, and I did like the self-referential nature of it, although that got a little out of hand in Act 2.. Also Sir Robin's Fiddler-esque Grail dance was hilarious. Also when the French Taunter substituted the line "I fart in your general direction!" with "I'll head-butt you in the chest!".

Probably depends on where you see it, I think it would have been much better with British acrs, but you don't get too many of them in Toronto. So yeah I would suggest going to see it, although I didn't think it premiered in London until October?

A few of my mates went to see it on Broadway and they loved it. I've been trying to get decent tickets, but last time I checked it was still up rather high for the poor uni student to afford. sad.gif

The line "grab your **** and double click" whilst being purile and infantile, has got to be one of the funniest lines ever uttered ina song, It has me rolling on the floor everytime I hear it.

A while ago, not long after it first came out, I got to see the show. I must admit, I'm kind of biased because I did get to see it original cast-meaning Tim Curry and Hank Azaria- But even without all that, I think it was actually really well done, and did have the Python-esque-ness (sorry, I started making up words) that made it not to silly, but also have some content to it. I don't know, I really liked it--but one has to be ready for a lot of siliness and singing for it to be really appreciated.
