Between your shoulder blades. Below where most collars come. hat way you would only need to pull your shirt down at the back to show people.

Having a tat on your back may be a buggar for you to see (mirrors are always handy!) but it is less likely to stretch on your back. Even if you put on weight you have to put on masses to make the width of your shoulders increase.

Having it done on your front you risk it stretching through weight gain or (as a girl) childbearing
dreamsx
never knew to think about all this when it came to tatoos!
i just always thought ones on your back looked pretty
-TheKasbah-
Your just generally pretty love! Lmao tongue.gif

I think tribal tatoos on arms and the back looked cool.

Kasbah.
Mata
Tribal schmible. Paisley is the new black.
Daria
Woah! How cool would a paisley tatto be?
Sir Psycho Sexy
As cool as my brown paisley shirt with the enourmous collar? Yeah, pretty damn cool.
Daria
Retro baby, rawr.
Sir Psycho Sexy
Sadly enough, I've not worn it since I saw someone in a club in Cardiff with exactly the same shirt on, I looked better obviously.
Daria
That is SUCH a lame reason for not wearing an awesome shirt. Especially seeing as you saw someone in Wales, wearing it.
-TheKasbah-
But, but. but I liked my tribal tattoos =[

Then again, I'm not going to argue with Mata on Matazone wink.gif

Kasabh.

Sounds good to me, Oi! Mata, Tribal is better than Paisley anyday! Anymoney it would win on googlefight.com, any bets? tongue.gif
Daria
Yes, I hate the Welsh. And Liverpudlians for that matter.

I wanted to know the same thing, but common sense tells me it depends on the size and colouring, and how long it takes.
-TheKasbah-
I don't know this Wales, it's more South England, but Wales and Northern Ireland were always the rejected parts of the UK, I mean I know why Wales, but I live in Northern Ireland, you shouldn't neglect me! tongue.gif

Disclaimer: I don't actually hate the Welsh.

Yup! It also depends on the tattooist, 'cause some are a complete rip-off. One of mine is 3x2 inches, just black with shading, and that was £30 from Rob in Winchester, about four years ago. Hopefully that gives some indication.
Daria
Nor do I. Don't actually hate anyone. But every country has to have its Wales- America has Canada, Spain has Portual, France has the whole of Europe. SOMEwhere has to be the butt of all the jokes.
-TheKasbah-
Goodpoint laugh.gif All them places are probably the least recognised places ever, even though Canada is pretty big, but they never seem to do anything. The UK and US are in a really gay and pointless war.Spain is good for holidays, as is France, the rest you named have nothing.
Daria
Yes. Now we have entirely hijacked Ryn's thread about her tattoo (have you decided all the details of it now, Ryn?), let us talk about being quiet.

Judging by that, I think mine was a touch on the expensive side, but at the same time I got it in a studio that I knew and trusted, retouch was also free.
Faerieryn
I'm just thinking about colour and the possibility of making the faerie a bit more featured. I want colour in the wings only and I am hoping to get the body of the faerie to look a touch more bug like- kinda like the second one that Ry drew. Any more help is always appreciated. once I have it done, your art will be a part of my skin!
PsychWardMike
I believe the point of a tattoo is largely not to get it removed, but that's justme.

Anyway, I've decided to get a tattoo as well. I'm getting an arrangement of "Ob-la-di Ob-la-da" banded across my arm. I think it'll be fun.

Do you get paid on a 'per-click' system or are you paid up front?
Faerieryn
Suggestions on colour? What about whether or not I should get the faerie body to look more human and female or not. Opinions people! I want to be able to tell everyone that all my friends helped me choose it!
Mata
I'm a fan of pure-colour tattoos - no black outlines at all. A nice purple would be good, or indigo.
Izzy
Yeah, I was going to say purple. A nice, dark purple, but not to where it gets confused as black would look terrific.
Faerieryn
I'm thinking about some really bright colours in the wings but I'm not sure about how many different colours- I'm all for pretty patterns but minimal pain if possible!

Sorta like the wings on your avatar?
Faerieryn
Yuppity!!!!! I tried putting those on it but I don't have the computer know how
Pikasyuu
that sounds pretty cool.
tattoos are so..so addictive, i'm finding that out. the sad thing is, the prices are starting to really skyrocket - at least here in this city. so far i've only got three, but i'm considering getting some autumn leaves wrapped around one of my arms or something like that.

the sad thing is, even though we've proven tattoos are not for shady heroin addicted characters, they're still mostly unacceptable at work and i hate it a lot. i usually wear a fuzzy black wristband over the stars on my wrist, but recently they've told me to start covering up the little chinese symbol between my thumb and index also. i have to do it with chalk markers, it's crazy! (can't have a bandaid half on while serving coffee, it gives the wrong impression..)

what do you all think about companies and tattoo censorship? the reason i was given was that they don't know where to draw the line - say someone has a naked spread-eagled woman as a visible tattoo, they can't really tell them to cover that up and let someone else have an exposed one.

..personally, i think people should really just stop being so easily offended. meh! but oh well. tongue.gif

edit: now that i've read the whole thread, i'm drooling over this - http://www.angishearstone.com/plum5.html - as a back or shoulder piece. mmm, beautiful.
Mata
Mwahahaha! I shall spread my taste in tattoos across the world! (And maybe I'll even get one myself some day!)
Pikasyuu
you have none? innnteresting - get a mittens and snowball as a tramp stamp, Mata, it'd look hot!

since today's the day of my father's passing, i asked my grandma what his favorite animal was - turns out it's a bloodhound. so now i'm considering getting a bloodhound's face on my ankle and putting 'tony paul' underneath. rule of thumb is that they all mean something, but thus far they're all memorials!

..unless i get the plum tree, which i reallyreallyreally want. really. a lot.
Mata
Bloodhound? Hm. They're not exactly renowned for their aesthetic charms. I don't suppose he liked anything else?

I did hear that a couple each got a tattoo done on their ankles, she had Snowdrop and he had Mittens. Unfortunately they split up and she had it covered - I only heard about this afterwards and she doesn't have a photo! Bah!

So far I am uninked. I've not managed to settle on anything that I like for long enough yet, but there is something I've been pondering for a while. Sues is very anti-tattoos, which doesn't exactly speed the process along.
Pikasyuu
hmm, that's true - i'm trying to find something of equal symbolism, but i'm not quite sure yet.

awww, who would cover up snowdrop or mittens? still, great idea. maybe i'll get a gigantic mr. snaffleburger on my forehead since he's my favorite. smile.gif

meep. why's she anti-tattoo?
Mata
She just doesn't like them. No-one else in her family has ever had one. Come to think of it, no-one in mine has ever had a tattoo either, as far as I know.

Maybe it's psychology - there's this idea that the male mind is constantly looking for more females to mate with, so a way for women to keep a man is to look different all the time, for example by wearing lots of different outfits. This theory also runs that the reverse is true, that women want their man to be consistent and look the same as much as possible. I know Sues doesn't like me to bleach my hair because when she first got to know me I had black hair and that's how she thinks of me, so maybe there's a similar thing going on with tattoos. I'm really not sure, and I don't think she is either.
Daria
My mother hates the idea of tattoos and piercings so much that she cries whenever we (usually being my dad and I or my brother and I) talk about them. I have my ears pierced only because my dad took me and I promised not to talk to my mum about it afterwards.
I have a tattoo design that I love, and have loved for over a year now. I just need to find a position for it- however silly it sounds, I think I might try it out in different places with a perm marker.
elphaba2
It does not look silly. Most people find it sensible to try things out first.

Is this along the same lines as teasing someone you really, really like? tongue.gif

*Initiates argument with Mata*
"EEEE Mata replied to my post!"

[/green eggs and spam... I swear I only show up once every couple of months to spam anymore]

I am slightly biased, Ryn, but I do think purple would look awesome.
Mata
There is never any good way to argue with me, for the simple reason that I'm right... And that I can edit your posts so you agree with me biggrin.gif Oh the glorious corrupting power!

*Also votes for purple*
Cath Sparrow
Does that mean Mata's actually female then? tongue.gif
Mata
No, there's just a scale of rightness:

Male < Female < Mata.

If I were to be reincarnated as a woman then I would be equally right about everything, I'd just use 'human interest' perspectives to prove it rather than rational argument. tongue.gif
Faerieryn
I'm aiming for a variety of colours in the wings

Mata
Aww, pipped by my gender again! wink.gif
Faerieryn
Ok everyone. I'm bumping this thread because I am determined to get this tattoo done before I get married.

Mata gave me the design

Now i need to think about wing colouring and design. I don't seem to be able to play with the image on my computer so if people are bored and fancy doing something artistic... have a go!
Industrial Kybosh
Noice. Very you. wink.gif

How big are you planning on having it? And where?
froggle-rock
What he said, but also: Bewbs? Am I perv for wanting boobies on a fairy? She seems like a she fairy 'n' all.
Industrial Kybosh
Could be a man fairy. Lack of nips is still a worry, though.
Faerieryn
She is indeed a she faerie. I'm not sure about putting boobs on her. Probably but the lines would have to be quite thin. I'd check with the tattooist. I'm intending for her to done on my lower back just above the trouser line about 10cm across I think, maybe a little smaller depending on cost!
Mata
I think you'd need to have it larger to do it justice, as a personal opinion. I know it costs more, but you'll have it on all your life, so it's worth getting it a reasonable size.
