http://comic.matazone.co.uk/?p=3I'm in the setup stages at the moment, but eventually this is probably going to turn into an excuse for me to portray evil stuff on a regular basis. Hurrah!
New episodes will got online on Mondays and Fridays, so drop by regularly!

The style of the characters reminds me of The Order of The Stick. It's fun.

I see your point there... I've been drawing these characters in their present form for around ten years, and they developed from stickmen angels and demons that I used to draw as a child, so I think I can claim quite fairly that they developed outside of the web's influence. It's really quite convenient how nicely they fit in with the vector-graphic style.

Why havent I seen this thread yet?!
Aw yay! New stuff. I've never been really into comics (or webcomics) but I'll most definitely read this. Seems as though you've been busy!

It only went online yesterday. I was designing the site most of the week, so I didn't tell anyone when the first episode went online.

Just read the upgrade for today. Do you plan to make all of them involve geese attacks?
Mata

Nope, but he certainly does like geese!
I've just put today's one online, and it features no geese.

Oh, nevermind, I see where I got confused. I mixed up the one from Friday with the one from today. Silly me.

The new episode is up now.
At the moment I'm setting things up for the regular pattern of the strip, which will involve more characters, mini-story arcs, and one-off silly strips. There's always the slow bit to get out of the way before you can get into the fun stuff, and I'm really looking forward to getting on to that.

Hmm... I didn't plan it this way, but today's (Sept 11th) post could appear in bad taste at first. I don't think it is, but I did ponder delaying it for a day. Any thoughts?

I didn't think of it when I read the comic, but I suppose you could see it that way. I wouldn't do anything unless anyone actually complains.

No one has said anything yet. I think it's pretty clear that I wasn't trying to make a comment about the terrorist attacks 11 years ago, but the coincidental link between the subjects was odd and could have been read the wrong way.

I've got to say that when I read Monday's strip my first thought was the 'Its only a model' dig at the end of the Camalot song in Monty Python & the Holy Grail. I think that reference in my head made it funnier for me, I didn't even think of the anniversary until I read the accompanying text. I'm not sure if that makes me a bad person or not? Perhaps unaware?... Actually take both of those back, I'm not, it's fine.
Blimey, started typing before 10am and there Mata goes and posts before me about Friday going up making this one look silly... dag-nab'it
Mata
Sep 15 2006, 03:54 PM
I think I was just being a bit over-sensitive about the possibility of Monday's strip offending people. It's still a bit of an odd coincidence, I think.
Technically it is a model... a 3D rendered model

There's definitely rising damp today...
What do you think of the style? I'm finding myself drawn to a slightly retro feel at the moment. We'll see where this develops, but I think I'm beginning to get my eye for comic work.
Smiler
Sep 18 2006, 01:09 PM
I kinda like the slightly off skewing inside the black and the colours do lean towards the retro which is cool.
I've found reading different online comics that there seems to be a divide between creators who consistantly use the same style and those who just go with the flow and time constraints.
So far I'm really enjoying the style. I quite like it when there are changes etc in style, it can keep a comic fresh and open a different avenue. I recon half the fun of reading onlines is that you can see different developments. Nifty!

Mata- I am very impressed with your 1337 squid drawing skills, including attention to detail (hunting tentacles).

Sep 22 2006, 03:23 PM
When I was very young I wanted to be a deep sea diver. I've no idea why, but the idea appealed to me. I then found out about giant squid and went very suddenly off of the idea, so I think my attention to detail is most likely due to me finding them a very traumatic idea as a child!
EDIT: comic (lady + tenacles) = ?
We'll see.

Thanks Asta. I'm finding my style at the moment, and it appears that it's big and colourful! The writing is tricky, because I'm not accustomed to making one-liners, but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it.
SPS: when I say 'curvacious ladies' I do of course mean 'squirrels with boobs'.

Is there more then one site we are supposed to vote for your comic on? Or your animations for that matter. Are they even still getting voted on?
(I know I'm technologically impaired, so this will be one of those times that your laughing with me.)
Mata
Oct 26 2006, 10:25 AM
There were two places to vote, but it looks like one of them has just gone over its hosting package so will probably be shutting down... I may open my own comic voting site! Anyway, the main one to vote on is linked from my sig:
http://www.buzzcomix.net/in.php?id=MatazonePeople are still voting, and currently I'm ranked 116, which is pretty much where I've been since I started.

284 today, that's just wrong! How can it drop down so low so quickly?
Oo is there any way to have the vote link on the screen? I've noticed a couple of other comics on there have it.
I'm still enjoying it and the difference betweeb Geese & Swans explains a lot

It's dropped a lot, but we can recover it I hope!
I really need to sort out the coding for adding buttons - and to make the buttons - for 'vote' links on the page itself. That can go on my big list of 'really important things I need to get done soon'.

Wow... has Trouble Down Pit really been going for over 4 years?! And still regularly updated! We may all yearn for new animations, but it's pretty impressive that Mata's kept up with the comic for this long... a lot of others run out of ideas and drop off the Internet.
I just looked at the last two comics which I'd missed whilst away/busy, and I thought I'd take a look back at the early ones. The comic looked fab back then, but I think it looks a million times better now - and flicking through the months you can see how much the style has changed.
Story-wise, I personally prefer the Mata/Floppity stories (with the occasional one-off comic thrown in) to the earlier ones. Maybe I just like the fact that, whilst he may have left for pastures new in reality, Mr Floppity still exists in the comic

I just realised how terribly sicophantic this post sounds, but really it is only born out of the fact that I'd massively underestimated how long Trouble Down Pit has been running - I'd been thinking just a couple of years or so. Still... everyone love's a bit of flattery, so I'll end with this: Trouble Down Pit is the only comic that I read with any regularity. I dip in and out of others, but most of them are not story-based, so I consider it an achievement that Mata has held my attention this long

Keep up the good work, an' all that!
Mata

Thanks Hobbes

Yes, I think there's been one missed strip in four years, and that was when I was in the far east and my friend (who was posting the comics for me while I was away) had to go to hospital. I reckon that's a pretty good record!
Yeah, I started off with a proper story and decided that I couldn't be bothered to write a full story arc very often, so now we get occasional links between the comics or running jokes, but mostly it's just a 'story' about my everyday existence (and my inner megalomaniac bunny).

So Mr Floppity isn't Laura then? Damn! Incidentally Matt and I are on a search for a lilac fluffy bunny for Alayna. If anyone sees one let us know
Mata
Jul 11 2011, 08:55 PM
No, Mr Floppity was in my life about five years before I met Laura. Sadly, he was taken by Sues when we split, so now I only have fond memories, a few photos, and the freedom to write whatever I like without him stropping at me

I do miss the little bunny, but such is the nature of break-ups. Laura has asked why she isn't in the comic, but I don't tend to put real people in there because I don't like the idea of putting words into other people's mouths (except famous people).
A lilac bunny is a girl's best friend... Except when he is a massively wayward influence... Although possibly he's even more of a best friend at those times. It's a tricky balancing act.
