It's December already, so I think now is a good time to start talking about what's coming out next year that you're looking forward to.

For me, these are the ones I can't wait for:

Synecdoche, New York - Charlie Kaufman's (writer of Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation) directorial debut starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as a theatre director trying to create a replica of New York.

The Brothers Bloom - Rian Johnson's second full-length film. He wrote and directed Brick, a film that I love almost as much as I love Charlie Kaufman's work.

The Dark Knight - I am not a fan of superheroes. Spider-man, X-Men, Superman.. none of them do anything for me. I don't know why. I am a geek and love geek things. Comic books are awesome; Superpowers are undeniably awesome. I just don't like Superheroes. But Batman does superheroing right. Maybe it is the superpowers. Maybe I like Batman because he doesn't have them, he just kicks ass. So I was very pleased to hear that my favourite superhero was being filmed by one of my favourite directors, and even more pleased when I saw the result. I am expecting the sequel to be just as good, which may be a mistake, I know, but I have faith in Christopher Nolan.

And while we're on sequels, I guess I'm also looking forward to Prince Caspian, Sin City 2, Harry Potter 6, Bond 22 and Indiana Jones 4.

And actually, on the subject of Superheroes, Iron Man doesn't look like it's going to be too bad. This opinion is based entirely on Robert Downey Jr.'s acting in the trailer. I don't know much about the Iron Man comics, and only vaguely remember an old cartoon series of it, but it looks like Robert Downey Jr. is going to be on fine charmingly over-talkative form, like in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and A Scanner Darkly.

I'm looking through a list of 2008 releases on wikipedia now, because apparently my brain stops working after midnight, even though I won't get to sleep for another couple of hours at least. It seems that BloodRayne 3 comes out next year. This saddens me greatly. BloodRayne was one of the worst films I've ever seen. I went into it with very low expectations and it didn't even manage to reach them. To learn that I've spent the last year at least living in a world where BloodRayne 2 exists makes me feel dirty all over. I might cry myself to sleep tonight; I recently got a job at the local Odeon and I might have to charge people money to see this film. I don't know if Uwe Boll is involved with this one, or with the second, but I do know he's directing In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale which comes out in 2008, and thus I know I'll be avoiding that one.

But it's not all bad. I've also just found out about The Forbidden Kingdom, the first collaboration between Jackie Chan and Jet Li, which has got to be at least fairly awesome, right?

So what are you all waiting for?

I too am excited for The Dark Knight (for which the viral marketing has been briliant), Iron Man, Sin City, Harry Potter And Indiana Jones. They all make my geeky bits a tingle, and that's always a good thing.

I'm also interested in 01-18-08/Cloverfield (or whatever it is at the moment), the new JJ Abrams project. Again, the viral marketing is what initially got me interested. Ok, so all the Slusho! stuff is a bit silly, and right now it's pointing to something that could be completely lame, nor am I really really into Abrams previous work, but I dunno. I like a good mystery. Plus, it's written by a really strong Buffy/Angel writer, so I've gotta get behind that (although the trailers for it show some AWFUL dialogue).

Finally, Star Trek. Another Abrams thing I think. And usually I wouldn't be super excited, except it's been cast extraordinarily well, with the likes of Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg. Yes please!

I want to see The Oxford Murders with Elijah "Quit Staring At Me With Those Huge Mesmorising Blue Orbs" Wood. Just to see if you can see Wytu and I as extras biggrin.gif

Did you get to call him Mr Frodo?

I'm very interested to see the JJ Abrams films. I love his TV work, but I've not seen Mission Impossible 3 yet, so I've no idea how well his style will translate into a two-hour format.

Mission Impossible III was noticeably not great. I gave up on Alias after two or three episodes, and I haven't finished watching Lost season 3 yet. I'm not a huge JJ Abrams fan but I don't have a problem with his style and to me, Mission Impossible III was very much not great. I don't have strong feelings either way, but I'm sure I'll go see Star Trek when it comes out.

Another film I discovered last night that looks quite interesting is 9. Another Elijah "While I Thought You Were A Good Frodo For Some Reason I Didn't Like You For A While But When I Think About It You're Quite A Good Actor And Your Eyes Are Indeed Mesmorising" Wood film, this one about Post-Apocalyptic rag-dolls or something.
