Right now it is snowing like crazy here - at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour. I live in the New England, so this is not unexpected. I extend my sympathies to those of you who don't have snow! But, I think it would be a great idea to have a playlist for when it snows. I thought of this just on my way home from school so I only have two songs, but please do add! It doesn't have to be about snow or mention snow; it just needs to be the right mood and ambience. The kind of song you can enjoy sitting by the window, watching the snow make a perfect white blanket over the outdoors, and drinking hot cocoa.

^ I once listened to (Tunnels) while building a tunnel. It was somewhat ultimate.
It is also snowing here. I will get back to you as to the perfect snow playlist. It is currently in development.
Hurray snow!

Anything by Library Tapes. Seriously. Also: Sigur Rós, The Cure (especially Let's Go To Bed), The Eraser by Thom Yorke (although personally, I think it is better for rain as it has a rhythm of droplets throughout), and then some Kid A.
Basically, your best bet is to go with anything that comes from Iceland (re: the first two suggestions) as it immediately sounds snowy, cold and harsh. Library Tapes basically sounds like someone is in a small hut in the middle of no-where, with an old crackly record in the background, fixing watches. Fo serious.

I am now incredibly curious about Library Tapes, that sounds like the kind of thing that I could grow to love.
On the Iceland theme, All Is Full Of Love by Bjork would be a good snowfall tune. It's so clear, every note sounds like it was played on pure crystals of light. Another of her tracks, Possibly Maybe, would probably work too.
Let It Snow - I think it was sung by Bing Crosby. Whoever sung the version at the end of Die Hard, that's the one for me

I disagree with Sigur Rós; they're more for waking up slowly than for snowy afternoons. But I do agree that most scandinavian indie fits perfectly. Mew, Magenta Skycode, Magnet.. and that's just the ones that begin with 'M'. Shoegaze is also pretty good for snowy times, I think; Airiel, Asobi Seksu, My Bloody Valentine.
But the band I think of first every time I see this thread is Snow Patrol.

Magnet! Totally forgotten about him, but yes: he is perfect.
How about Sigur Rós for waking up slowly on snowy afternoons?

QUOTE (Daria @ Dec 16 2007, 06:05 PM)

Oo, that's really rather lovely, and would doubtless drive Sues completely bonkers. It reminds me a lot of Susumu Yokota, who is another person who likes loops of echoing sounds and broken instruments.

Drug her. Sometimes chloroform is the only way to go.

Yes your honour, the voices on the internet told me to do it...

No no, it wasn't Voices, it was Daria.

Edit: err... I mean sure. It was Voices. Uh huh >_>
