LoLo
I just thought people might want to know that in a month I'll be graduating from uni with my bacherlors of science in Graphic Design. Since I got accepted into this program 2 years ago for this degree I haven't gotten much sleep and don't even remember what it's like to have any type of social life, so it feels really great that it's finally happening.

Now comes the hard part...

...hopefully getting a real job.
IrishGuy
Has it really been that long? We're getting old.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!!!

I will be graduating this fall and fingers crossed the company I'm interning for will hire me, that way I'll have a job when I graduate. Where at in California are you? Because if your close to LA I would think you could work your way in there. I know several people that are moving there come this summer and next summer when they finish. LA just doesn't sound like my kind of place, that's the nice thing about being on the post production side, you have a choice, if I moved anywhere it would by New York City.

Congrats Lo! =)

I'm in Northern California and it would be more likely I would get a job in San Fran or somewhere in the Bay Area if I do stay in California. I don't like LA that much, except I do like their graffiti. I like the idea of New York but I've never been there, so it is more of just a cool idea. I'm pretty much open to anywhere in the world that I can get a job. haha, I'm so picky. I appreciate the recommendation.

Oh another cool thing, one of my senior projects was a book that I wrote, illustrated and designed. I just sent it off to be printed today and I'm stoked. I can't wait until it shows up on my doorstep.

Yay Graduating Lo!

This seems slightly surreal. You've been in school as long as I've known you. ohmy.gif
Mata
Ah, it was a two year course! I thought it was three years, but even so it seems not very long ago when you said you were starting it.

*hugs* Congrats on finishing! You'll have to post photos of your book so we can all be impressed smile.gif

Yeah it seems that way to me too. I've been in school for the last 8 years. Eight years! I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle not doing 12 things at once.

Well it was 2 years once I got accepted, but I had to do 1 year just to be able to apply to be accepted into the 2 year part...also add to that the 5 years in what you guys over there would call "college" I think, so that I could get into Uni and it's a long long time. The 5 years usually is 2-3 years but I had to work full time to pay off one of my mistakes, so it was part time school. I'm rambling.

Oh and Speaker, right now the book is just printed for a grade, for a few people who helped me with it in some way, a copy for my portfolio, and a few to try and get it "really" published. If I can get an actual publishing house to put it out, then I'll let you know, if I can't and people do want to buy it, I guess the place where I'm having it printed from also allows purchases if I want it to. The only reason I don't have it open to that right now is I didn't get to choose any of the things like book size and paper, so I'm not sure that it's going to match my vision in my head.

Wow I'm just rambling on and on.
Izzy
'Cogratz! So, what's your book about?
LoLo

'Cogratz! So, what's your book about?

Wow it's like I'm spamming the thread, because I posted like a millisecond before you did..hah!

It's called "Dysfunctional Survival Guide" and it's a humorous way of surviving a dysfunctional family and world, then moving on to start your own. It's got tips on how to deal with being in diapers as a baby, to how to feed yourself on a limited budget when you're just starting out on your own. I don't actually recommend doing anything that I wrote, except maybe the mac and cheese and tuna casserole, but even then that's iffy.

My assignment was to "do something funny" because my adviser had recently found out that I am funny and she hadn't noticed too much of that in my work. I had given a presentation on how to survive a dysfunctional holiday the semester before and everyone was laughing so hard, I decided expanding it into a book with funny pictures was the way to go. Apparently my next task after graduation according to my adviser is to get it published, start a website to go with it, and then start writing more versions. I think she thinks I can make a living off of this concept, which is a kind of cool idea.
Cath
Big Congratz Lolo and good luck with it. *Big none contact uber hugs* wink.gif

Thanks to everyone.

This is my cohort. I spent the last 2 years with these people in all of my classes. We're missing 4 who didn't go to graduation and 1 who ran away before we took the picture, but for the most part this is my school family. I'm really going to miss these guys. Oh and for those wondering I'm the fat girl on the right.

It's hard to take a picture of your own hat, so this is the best that I got. My hat said "chicken BUTT" which goes with one of my shirts I was famous for wearing at school.

I guess that's as good as it gets for pics of me in my cap and gown.

Yay! Congratulations Lolo!
Yonks of success to you in your future directions.

erm...

/looks sheepish

Looks like I've turned up really late to the party on this one.

Lo, sorry for being a complete numpty and not getting to this one sooner, but congrats on passing the course. The book sounds like it'd be a good laugh and yet have the potential to be very useful. Heaven knows I could use a copy! Have you had a publisher lined up or have the college got you on that old Intellectual Property clause thing?

I'd love to see the piccies but for some peculiar reason the only picture I can get is my own avatar. Go figure unsure.gif

I'm supposed to try lining up some publishers, but I've been concentrating on the finding a job thing. Perhaps I should do both. lol

As for the pics This is the group pic and this is the hat pic. Maybe that will help the viewing.
leopold
You're right to concentrate on getting a job first, Lo. You'll definitely get money from the job. Once you're working, then sort out a publisher; if you make money from the book (and I hope you do) then it'll be a bonus.

And bizarrely those links don't help. There's definitely something amiss, and it's not JPEGs being blocked entirely because I can see some avatars but not others. I think I'm having my access slowly removed from me sad.gif
Mata
Are you on Web(lack of)sense too Leo? I've noticed a big drop in the number of things that I can look at in the past week, including most of the avatars on this site.
leopold
Yep, I'm "protected" by WebSenseless on my company network. It seems to block JPG files from a lot of picture hosting sites for some reason, possibly because someone thought that there may be one which has a picture of a naked buttock on it. Shock horror!!

My av is okay because I'm hosting it from my own server, and WebSense has yet to panic about the naked buttock picture thereon wink.gif
leopold
Ah! So now I try it when I'm not on the corporate network and I can see them in all their glory!

Nice pic, Lo. You all look so smart. And it's daylight, too, which is always a winner when you're having your grad pics. My graduation was in November, in the evening, so it was pitch black by 3 o'clock and later on it snowed!

it's not hijacking, you graduated too! Congrats by the way!

I made the book I wrote available for purchase for $30 on lulu.com

I don't know if you can buy it if you're outside the united states, but if you're interested in trying it out that's cool. I know $30 seems like a lot for a book, but the printing is all in color so I'm making a minimal profit off of it.

If you buy it and like it, please pass the link on to your friends and family if you think they would be interested, so I can see if I can make something out of this book.
