I'm not very technically minded so bear with me.

I want to connect my new surround sound to my xbox 360 but don't know how. The speakers connect to the dvd player that came with it via "wires", but theres no red white or yellow holes in the dvd player.

Any solutions?

I do it via the TV. There's an in/out scart socket that goes from my TV to the DVD player. Everything from the 360 goes into the TV, the TV plugs into the DVD player, and that has a TV/audio setting which outputs whatever sound the TV sends to it.

In other words, plug all the 360 cables into the TV, then plug the TV's in/out scart into the DVD player. That's what works for me!
