IGN have given it there first perfect 10 in nearly 10 years.
I haven't played much of it yet, but with a mahoosive city to explore and multiplayer, I can see myself playing it for years.
So, your opinions...

'Game of the decade' is a big boast when there's still a couple of years left, but any challenger would haev to bring something prety special out of the bag. GTA IV is stunning, frankly. Not stunning enough to change the hearts and minds of those who don't like the previous installments, but for those of us who enjoyed the old ones, it's a bit special.
As I said in the 'what are you playing' thread, I love how much they've done to make the game feel more involving. There's always been something more to do than just the main plot in the others, but this time round it truly feels like a real virtual world in there.
In balance, then, fully deserving of the full marks given by IGN. I'll be playing little else for the coming weeks.

I love the presentation, and I've loved previous games in the series... But I can't help but feel that it's dressing the repetition of 'drive somewhere - shoot person - repeat'. My goodness, that dressing is stunning and utterly beyond the writing in probably any other game ever made, but the core gameplay currently feels a bit slim to me.
I've been playing it for probably 10-12 hours, and I feel certain that there's a huge amount left to go, but the pattern of play seems fairly set so far. I'll keep on playing it because of the presentation, yet there's still a nagging sense that there should be something else to do in the city.
I'm not saying it's not a very good game, certainly worthy of an average in the high 90s for the scores, but the perfect game that 100 suggests? I'm not so sure. I find myself in the evenings deciding to play something else for a while, a bit of Half Life 2 or Virtua Fighter 5. I can't help but feel that if it was the perfect game then I wouldn't be doing that.
Then again, the plot seems to be kicking in a bit more, so maybe I'll be massively addicted by this time next week.

I think I'm nearing the end, and I'm still not inclined to say that it's the most amazing game of the last eight years. It's very good, and the presentation is still very slick, but the core gameplay hasn't really changed in the whole thing.
As strange as this may sound, I grabbed far harder by Bioshock than I have been by GTA IV. I'm not saying that Bioshock is better (because it probably isn't), only that the gameplay was more engaging.
Now it's been a few weeks, what do you think about the game?
