A few days ago, snoo linked me to
Dr Horrible.
It is a musical written by Joss Whedon, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day. I think Felicia Day was Vi, a potential on Season 7 of Buffy (I'm just assuming that people know who the other two actors are, because they SHOULD). It's being shown online in 3 installments, and the first one went up today. It's all about Dr. Horrible and his attempts to get into the Evil League of Evil.
Seriously, guys. I may explode. Joss Whedon, NPH, Nathan Fillion, MUSICAL. I am a bundle of fangirlish glee. Anyone else watching it?

I can't watch it! My internet is being a *!@^$% and not loading it *at all*!!!
If anyone could find a way of sending it to me that doesn't involve the internet I would love them forever... or I might just have to wait until it comes out on DVD and I think I would die waiting first!

It's uploaded on YouTube as well now snoo. You can let it buffer slowly so hopefully you'll be able to see it that way.
The 14 minute YouTube one has badly sync'd audio though and the 10 minute one has some scenes cut so it's not perfect.

Yay! I did done used bit torrenting and I got it and it's great. I want the next part right now.
Edit: Also, Cand, how could you not mention Simon Helberg? (Admittedly, I had to look up his name, but I would have been all "that guy from the Big Bang Theory and a bunch of other stuff"). His character was fantastic. And Felicia Day is also in another web series, The Guild, about a group of MMO players. It's not great but not terrible either.
here is its* YouTube channel. But watch the singalong blog first, because that is both not terrible and actually great.
*Sarahs: I read through and took out the apostrophe here. I am learning.

It's adorable! I'm not a super-Buffy person, and I still thought it was great. Neil Patrick Harris is terrific (and can sing!)

I think I made that post before I saw that part? I know that when I saw him I said "Walowitz!" in IRC. I don't know how many people understood me.
Our router inexplicably HATES the Dr. Horrible site. 3 minutes into episode 1 it starts resetting like crazy, but then when we leave the site it's fine.

I do not understand what its problem is! Maybe it just starts fainting from all of the combined awesomeness.

I love musicals! And I also love supervillans! And I love things that are free on the internet!
I just watched it. It was awesome. Enough said.

I quite enjoyed it! Musicals arn't my thing, but there's enough not musical talk to sate me

I'll be looking for the next 'sodes. I like the hammyness of Nathan Fillion's xter. From seeing him in Firefly & Serenity, to then seeing him in Desperate House Wives and Drive was a bit meah. So, yay Wheadon!
But you know, I still hate musicals. >_>

I adore musicals. They're wonderfully cheesy and almost never take themselves too seriously. I am convinced that most people secretly love them, but in kind of a guilty-pleasure-won't-admit-it-to-anyone way.
I have spent nearly my entire life living with people who
actually burst out into song about random stuff, though. First my sister, and now Ste. They had quite a fun time singing back and forth at one another when we visited the US. So musicals probably don't require me to suspend disbelief quite as much as most people.

I think the randomly singing thing is genetic :S
I *finally* managed to watch it, it is awesome but I'm going to be away until Monday so won't get to see the next two episodes

Three acts is not enough. I demand this be turned into a series eternal. If it doesn't last longer than Blue Peter then there is no God.

It was good but, I don't know... (possibly spoiler) it felt like it lacked something, ending on a downer like it did. No-one won, which threw me a bit.
Act II was the best, methinks. Still, I want more.

"*Sarahs: I read through and took out the apostrophe here. I am learning."
I'm proud of you Nov

Anyway, I was halfway through episode I when I got a depressing phonecall, but I'm definitely going to go back and watch. Also, candice, I too randomly break into song, even if it doesn't last long - it's usually just phrases...

What? It can't end like that! *demands another episode*
Phyllis
Jul 19 2008, 05:08 PM
I liked the ending, actually.
Spoiler: He never would have gotten into the Evil League of Evil with Penny still alive. She was his link to his humanity. He was still mostly Billy with her around. Now he actually IS Dr. Horrible. Either way he was going to lose. He could either get the girl or get his dream: he couldn't have both. Even though he pretty much just wanted to be a supervillain to impress her, that was never going to happen.
And really, it's Joss Whedon. Almost none of his characters EVER end up in a happy relationship in the last episode of something. I can think of only two couples who are together at the end of any of his shows, and two who give a hint that they might be together someday. A fair portion of his characters tend to die. It's kind of one of the things I like about his shows: no one is safe. Big stars die, not just poor Ensign Whatever who you never saw before the episode in which he's squished by an angry space-yak. It's more true to life, in my opinion. As true to life as something with vampires or freeze rays can be, anyway. It generally makes me care about the characters more than I would otherwise, in a weird way.
Did anyone else catch the names of the Evil League of Evil in the credits? I so hope there is a sequel, because I want to know more about Fake Thomas Jefferson. Best supervillain name ever!
Anyway, I agree that Episode II was the most entertaining, but I LOVED the Captain Hammer groupies in Episode III. They were fabulous.

But
he got into the evil league of evil at least!
I loved the first song in act III, and the Captain Hammer fans

I will totally be buying the dvd when it comes out. I've already bought myself a captain hammer t shirt!

Overall I rate it 9/10. The songs were awesome, the storyline was great. It looses a point because of the ending.
Also, I would never have guessed that bad horse was actually a horse.

I'm also awaiting the release of the DVD with awesome extras.
Act 2 is probably my fav. but loved the whole bit. Here's the hope that they do put together more. Guess we'll have to see.
Next to the Horrible Doc - I'd have to say Dead Bowie is the evil league of evil person who intrigues me.

I wonder if Captain Hammer's meltdown at the end has anything to do with losing Dr. Horrible?
If you don't feel pain, you don't have much empathy for someone else's pain, yes?
Dr. Horrible just keeps trying with new and interesting toys to accomplish social change.
Could deep down Captain Hammer think of Dr. Horrible as almost a friend? He watches his blog, enjoys seeing him try to pull yet another caper. Captain never gets hurt, has no empathy for Doc's hurt, so it's a game. It's fun. Doctor Horrible is a favorite playmate.
This last time though the Captain got hurt and like a small child - goes running for Mummy. My little playmate hurt me. Can't you almost see a small child do the same? Which small children you can reassure them that the friend didn't mean to hurt them. Of course in this case the Doctor most assuredly did which can't really be overlooked.
Thoughts?

I got my Dr. Horrible shirt yesterday and I wore it today! Yay! Too bad the humor was wasted on my co-workers.
I was talking to my sis about this and apparently this was Joss Whedon's answer to the writer's strike, by giving his friends a way to make money and have fun doing some work while everyone else was out of work. From what she read in the article though, he only planned on creating this one. I hope she's wrong on that point.
Oh and you can download this badboy on I-tunes for like 4 bucks, so it's not all that expensive.
