In an effort to try and stop spammers from registering (and lowering the workload of trying to delete their accounts before they activate them) I've upgraded the forum software.
This does mean that things will look a bit 'default' until I can work out how to put back the customisations that I'd done on here, but hopefully this will mean easier and less pr0n spammed forums for all of us. Yay!
I think I had something else to say here, but my cold-riddled head has completely forgotten what that was. So... Rar! New stuff!

I was a bit baffled with the having to sign in and the lovely "Invision Power Board" logo at the top of the screen, but if it stops more of the pr0n then awesome.

It seems to be working. Usually I would have between 20-80 spambots registering every day. So far today (and since the new software went in place) we've had none! Woo!

This time, I don't think it was me either.

Oh and did you notice the little person next to your name is filled in if you're online and it's grayed out if you're offline....too cool. Also now I'm noticing a place to enter in "reason for edit" wierd....

Oh...well...usually I don't check my gender on a daily basis. Actually I do, but you don't need to know the details.

In an attempt to let SPS be transgender instead of female, I noticed that there is a drop down menu when you click on someone's name. Also it's slightly harder to edit another person's profile, but I figured it out! woo
*wonders if the interests she added to SPS's profile a month or so ago is still there....* edit: Yes they are!

Dude you can look at a person's profile now and see who's looked at it recently. You can also leave comments on their profiles....how cool is this?

That is like awesome.
You can also rate other users! I gave my old account 5 stars.
The member search looks pretty cool too.

Thanks, it took all of about five minutes in Photoshop - three of which were duplicating the background on the default image to cover up the board-software's logo!

I think I need to work out some way to delete the profiles of people who haven't ever posted and who have accounts more than a few months old - I might get a more reasonable idea of what the membership on here really is.

Well you could do some database magic to delete all the non-posters. You should go by the "last seen" date though as some of em might just be lurking.

Some of them may be lurking without signing in, too.

Yep, it would have to be a combination of things. Lurkers can see the whole forums though, so losing their account wouldn't damage their enjoyment.
I would never delete accounts that have posted - that would very rude - but someone who registered six months ago, never posted, and never came back? Well... That seems reasonable? How does that sound to you all?
Yannick
Sep 24 2008, 06:48 PM
Sounds fair. If they ever do come back, they'll be slightly irritated, reregister, and forget about it.
Cath
Sep 25 2008, 11:50 AM
Sounds pretty fair to me and if they're lurking readers anyhow they're likely to see this anyhow so will know what's going on.
