Daria
Just as it says on the tin! What single was number one in the music charts when you were born?
Mine was Bros - "I Owe You Nothing". Yeah.

NB- this thread is half InKy's fault too. Only I HAVE THE INTERNETS *Cackles*

Ahem.
EvilSpoon
I remember a thread like this!

US charts - The Look - Roxette
UK charts - Like A Prayer - Madonna

I am displeased.
elphaba2
Maria McKee - "Show Me Heaven"

Don't know it. Vamos, Youtube!

Haha, it's awful. The top album for my birthday was Pavarotti, though!
Yannick
The Sign - Ace of Base

Never heard of it.

Also Die Prinzen - Alles nur gekault

Haven't heard of it either.

I envy you. For having not heard it, that is.

Mine, as I discussed with Daria on the yesterday, was 'Sunday Girl' by Blondie, which happens to be my favourite Blondie song. I picked it up on 12" at a record market on Thurday. Time off well spent, says I.
CheeseMoose
Mine was Vogue - Madonna Which fails to excite any emotion in me at all. Woo.
Mata
You are all making me feel really old. Except for InKy.

Depending on how you judge things, in the UK I've got one of these two:

29:01:77. Julie Covington. Don't Cry For Me Argentina.
05:02:77. David Soul. Don't Give Up On Us.

I think I vaguely know the David Soul one, but I'm not sure.

In the US it was these two underwhelming songs:

January 29 "Car Wash" Rose Royce
February 5 "Torn Between Two Lovers" Mary MacGregor

My birth songs suck!
Industrial Kybosh
Except for 'Car Wash', Mata, which is plainly brilliant. wink.gif

You don't know old until you've met someone who was born to the sound of Ace Of Base. Christ, I was at high school when that came out.
Yannick
Heh, so that made me check how old Inky was. The profiles are so awesome I didn't even have to do math!

You guys are making me feel like I'll be old one day. sad.gif I'm just imagining this topic in 20 or so years, "Jesus, you were born when that Katy Perry song came out? I was a teenager!"
Ashbless
"The first time ever I saw your face" by Roberta Flack.

Sadly syuu, that wasn't a number one until the 29th of August '87 in the UK and 12th of March '88 in the US.

I feel really bad for finding that out now. I'm so sorry.

April 10th, 1982: I Love Rock 'n Roll by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.

I'm curious, Mata, why did you look up both the 29th of January and the 5th of February? Did you come out on the 29th, see your shadow, and then go back in? Are you secretly a groundhog?! ohmy.gif
Pixiegoth
1976 ... "Disco Lady" by Johnnie Taylor

Don't know it. Somewhere else I'm sure said it was Mull of Kintyre! Another web site says

On 15th Apr 1976 ...

The Number 1 single was:
Brotherhood Of Man - "Save Your Kisses For Me"
For Number 1 single over the subsequent years Click Here

The Number 1 album was:
TV Soundtrack - "Rock Follies"
For Number 1 album over the subsequent years Click Here

Does anyone have a legitimate site to look at?? unsure.gif

God I feel old sad.gif

Yes.

Also, I figure that, being born on the 4th, that means that the actual number 1 will have changed by then, even though it wouldn't be officially announced until the next day. The number 1 on the 5th is probably a more accurate reflection of what people were listening to when I was born.

I think too much.

@Pixie: Rock Follies? Nice biggrin.gif
leopold
Blimey - I remember pretty much all of those choons you were born to. I was probably listening to them at the time you were emerging as well.

Mine? Well, on the day I graced the planet Earth with my newborn presence, Freda Payne was spending her fifth week at number 1 with "Band Of Gold", a song which has been covered a few times since. I bet most people here have never even heard of Freda Payne. dry.gif

Beethoven's 9th Symphony in my case.
