i thought i would put this out to get some good idea's of movies to watch since i've seen almost every movie that caught my eye in all the movie store around i was looking for suggestion. i supose i will put the movie rasputin (staring alan rickman and ian mckellin) i didnt think it would be that great since it was a 1996 made for tv movie. but acctually i found it very amusing. i think alan rickman is so far the be rasputin i have seen. (this is the movie i ended up with last night) they need to start making more movies

american beauty
schindler's list

the lil' pie fairy
american beauty was just good to watch...but schindler's list made me sad for the world and all the bad stuff that happens to people in it... sad.gif
Phyllis
yeah...it's really hard to watch

the ending is really what makes me love the movie though....tis the only movie EVER to make me cry. the beginning and middle part i do not enjoy watching. but it is a very good, if very sad, movie...i think, anyway.
oobunnie
schindler's list is one of my favorite movies =) i've been trying to find a place to buy it for a long time
the lil' pie fairy
i'd have to agree there...but i cry easy anyway! we watched it when we did the holocaust at school...it was so much worse when you had all the background knowledge from lessons of everything else that happened about that time...but people should watch it to learn from it, i say.

I have yet to see one mention of the Boondock Saints? Why?!

It's the greatest movie of ALL TIME. I command you all to see it, if you haven't!!

Tara agrees with me. It seems only the Scottish and Irish folks understand how great that movie is.

And Shepherds we shall be. For thee, my Lord, for thee. Power hath descended for from Thy hand Our feet my swiftly carry out Thy command. We will flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shallit ever be.

In nomine patri, et fili, et spiritu sancti.
[Wraeth]
Memento, The Usual Suspects, Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels, The two Lord of the Rings films.

From my childhood, I'd have to say my favourite films were 'The Princess Bride' and 'Willow'.

Donnie Darko: I was obsessing over this when it first came out thanks to the groovy website but it only got to a cinema near me something like 2 years later, and by then it no longer had the "alternative" cool factor... sad.gif Oh well, I eventually managed to get all my friends as obsessed over it as me smile.gif

Memento: I Love this film, I think it shows us how much we rely on black and white definitions; this guy's good, this guys bad, this guys ugly. It left me feeling kind of cold at the end not being able to label Lenny...

The Boondock saints: Billy Connoly as a hitman? O_O The part somehow suits him though. Irishguy, I'm from Bristol and I have to watch this film at least once a month or my family will die...

Ghost world

The nightmare before christmas

Requiem for a dream: *cries*

Pi: Yay, numbers and stuff.

Edward Scissorhands: Sooo so pretty... Twas my favourite film as a child and I still love it. happy.gif

Withnail and I: Do I have to explain? And if I do could I? Who'd of thought two guys getting pissed a lot would make such a great film..

Hmm, there's loads more that I can't think of right now.

[edit]Forgot Ringu, only horror film I've ever been remotely scared by. Although when I heard there was going to be an american big budget remake that scared me a lot...[/edit]

if you havent seen "battle royale"(sp) i would sugest you do so at some point. also check out "bullet in the head" although i havent seen it in ages (i watched it on tv a long time ago, but so far havent been able to get a hard copy that does'nt require a credit card). "the blade" (the japanese one) is also a good show. so is "legend of a fighter".

ps: i dont know what these film's original titles are.

*edit addition:i would aso agree with alanity on the subject of pi. 'tis a very good film with lots of insanity goodness.

Ooo I've been trying to get hold of Battle Royal for a while now, I've given up trying to find a video and am currently downloading it from Kazaa lite (has taken several weeks so far because there aren't many sources)

Do you know if Darren Aronofsky (sp?) has had any other films because all I've found are Requiem and Pi and they're both incredible, although I think I prefer Pi.
poppa.moo
I like the original Ring trilogy (American re-make is no where near as good), Audience (another Japanese film), Battle Royale (And another, you beginning to see a pattern emerge?), Donnie Darko, Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars (all), LOTR. Many others that i can't think of right now, but will probably add them later.

Masses of respect to certain people - you'll know who you are when you see my list.

The Ring Trilogy -Japanese originals, natch. The first is simply sublime, the second had me shuddering in fear, and the third (or the nothingth?) was fascinating. Must-see stuff.

Battle Royale - Wow. Just wow. The ultimate mix of high concept, thrilling action, and ultra-cute Japanese actors. Plus 'Beat' Takeshi! Yaaay!

Audition - Was this what you meant, poppa? It's an evil film - utterly captivating, with the most unwatchably gruesome denoument. It was true through-the-fingers viewing for me, and I loved it.

Withnail and I - Best. Film. EVER!

The Big Lebowski - I like just about everything by the Coen brothers, but this one simply spoke to me the most. Plus, for a while, certain of my mates insisted on calling me The Dude... rolleyes.gif

The Evil Dead trilogy - Bruce Campbell is a huge-chinned God.

My Wrongs - Excellent choice, Galder! I adore Chris Morris...

Delicatessen - Excellently weird French cinema. Beautifully shot, creative, and hilarious.

Akira - It's an anime classic, innit?

Memento - Brilliantly original, and totally gripping. I won my copy in a competition too! Go team me!

Eraserhead - Everyone needs to watch this once. Don't expect to understand it - I didn't - but it's a very interesting and affecting film. Makes me cringe just thinking about it, mind... *shudders*

That'll do for now. I haven't seen Donnie Darko as yet - kicking meself, I am - but I plan to...
