Just got:
They Might Be Giants , Dial-A-Song...Love them. Can't listen to them without getting too damn happy. Like Dr. Seuss gone haywire.
Missy Elliot- Yes...rap...but she's got class, actually
Norah Jones- Very dreamy voice, nice piano playing. I can safely bet I'll play this quite often this Summer.
Soundtrack from the Craft- really just got it for one song, but compilations are cool
Ravi Shankar- East Indian music. Helps me obsess just a bit more about India. Very good to meditate to as well.
Other things that may end up in the CD player could be any 80's glam or pop group, swing, celtic or maybe Right Said Fred if I feel the need for pure sugar pop. Remember "I'm too sexy" ? Abba, as well, if I want to royally tick off the Sweetie (it actually drives him from the room, hehe)

I love music, tones, notes and rythems all coming together to release an emotion, story or soul. Music drives into our core and says "mmmm I like that!" Lately I've been listening to a CD a friend of burned for me, I couldn't for the life of me tell you who is on it, but the way the CD is set up is each song contrasts the next. Say the first song will be calming and full of rich melody, the next one will be techno that inspires you to try to lift buildings, then the next will be a rock song and on it goes, it's fantastic!
Also I can not get enough of Yann Tiersen, I worship the mans composing abilities, he could have my soul at the drop of a hat. "The Parade" has made me cry. becalming piano and a low female voice. mmmmm. The Lyrics... sometimes "I feel my skin, sometimes I hear a voice, please try to be friendly..." One of my favorites.
Also by Yann, "Les Jours Tristes" A real pick you up song. Never give up hope, the strength of the human will explored in the lyrics while rich chords are gently wound.
Yann also did the Amelie soundtrack, and I honestly think that if the world was set to the soundtrack everyday would be perfectly fantastic.
oooo Monochrome by Yann is also wonderful! ack, I think I'm going to stop now lol, Yann is my God

Me got new albums to fend off depression!
To those fo you who like a fusion of thrash and techno, I full-throatedly recommend the new Mad Capsule Markets album. It's like living inside Satan's C64...
With that album I got a FREE! HMV 'Playlist' CD of FREE! music for FREE! I've not bent a full ear to it yet, but I'ts got a Mew track on it, and that's excellent.
Finally, I picked up Led Zeppelin 'Remasters' for a tenner, and have spent much of yesterday and today in the thrall of 'Kashmir'. The best song ever? Definitely top ten...

Kicked some more Mad Capsule Markets this afternoon - watched the free DVD that came with the new album.
Now got some Bill Hicks on, because modern polotical comedy is too wishy-washy for me. Bill is the King!
It's a little odd listening to him ranting about the Gulf War (the first one that is - a war he dubbed The Persian Gulf Distraction). I wonder what he'd make of the current war. Doubtless Dubya would find himself with a new torn orifice or two...

True dat. Although I like anything by the Coen Bros. Most of my friends just don't appreciate pure randomness. I think my favourite Coen Bro film is the Big Lebowski, follwed closely by Raising Arizona and The Hudsucker Proxy.

That's kind of like me. Even though I love to read, if I see a movie before I read the book, I won't want to read the book. It's just a thing with me. I can't read LoTR book because I've already seen the movie. Just seems like a waste of time if I already know what's going to happen and the movie has already told me how to picture the characters and the settings. The only exception to this rule was One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest. I watched the movie then read the book and I found the book much more surreal, and thus cooler.

Music you say? That'll be what I've been doing all weekend at All Tomorrow's Parties then. My, what a fantastically wonderfull weekend of electro madness, bleepy goodness and limb-thrashing tomfoolery.
Topping the list of performers I shaked various bits of my body too were: Venetian Snares (who's even more mental live than you can possible imagine. I kid you not, bits of his set peaked over 500 bpm), Aphex Twin (who's always good for some gabba jungle mash-up), Team Doyobi, Gescom, LFO, Mark Broom, Sritctly Kev, Bola, and the magical Wevie Stonder (who had a bloke who looked like a fat Noel Edmonds, and a freak in make-up jumping around like a latter-day Bez). Oh, and The Fall, while uncharacteristically punk, were a right good laugh.
All round a top weekend. Forget your glastonburies, homelands and whatever else, with their overflowing portaloos, sleeping in tents and so on. ATP's where it's at, I tells ya - a cosy chalet, indoor toilets, indoor dancefloors. It's the future of festivals.
But the one thing that got my goat? Bloody indie kids standing around WATCHING the artists play, unforgivable considering (a) that most of the artists consist of a scowling bloke or two in hoodies hunched over laptops or decks, and (

the sheer undeniable quality of the music on offer. Non-dancing kids at gigs are my new pet hate.
