Niiice. Haven't listened to that in a while. Bona fide classic.
Last night, I treated my ears to, in reverse order (for the hell of it), 'The Colour And The Shape' by Foo Fighters, 'Chops' by Euros Childs, disc one of the Rough Trade 'Singer Songwriters 1' comp, and 'Von' by Sigur Ros.
I was in a funny mood last night, as you can probably tell.

Dub Side Of The Moon was probably last summer's soundtrack for me. It has memories of strange fancy-dress shops in Soho, and falling asleep listening to Dark Side Of The Moon and waking up to the dub version.

Eugh. I detest Dark Side of the Moon. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

In my mind, it is like The Beatles or Nirvana. It isn't stunning as a piece of musical creation- but it is clever and is so popular because it was at the forefront of a certain era.
I'm listening to the sound of rainwater drip from my hair. I got caught in a storm whilst running errands for my boss. When he comes in, I am SO going to give him what for. Probably in the form of a glare.

To me, 'Dub Side...' was the album I'd drop onto the store stereo when I was feeling a bit willful. The looks of dawning realisation - and occasionally disgust - on the faces of the old rockers was priceless. It's an interesting and good album, much better than the patchy 'Radiodread' followup.

I like it 'cause it's different from pretty much all the other stuff I listen to. In a way relaxing, but at the same time good to get up and do stuff to. Not big on lyrics, but still has some. Nice long solos. (And if it's a guitar solo, twice as awesome!)
A Makeshifte music video on my friend's profile. It's... okay.

"So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking/ Racing around to come up behind you again./ The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,/ Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time./ Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines/ Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way/ The time is gone, the song is over,/ Thought I'd something more to say."
I dunno, I'd say the lyrics are... indicative at least.

That's only half a sentence! Indicative of what?
Daria
Jun 29 2007, 02:45 PM
Indicative of the feeling of the times, the individual mebers, of having to deal with age. Indicative of many things, hence it just being left at that

Remember, also, that it was an album made just after Syd had to leave due to mental illness. It isn't going to be about happiness and cheery rainbows.

Cibo Matto's 'Viva! La Woman' last night and this morning. It's one of those albums I forget about, then listen to contantly until I get sick of it, and then put aside to gather dust for a few weeks until the cycle is ready to repeat itself. Great album.

O'course, to point and laugh you'd have to come along to one of the meets Inky. We've got one in four weeks in London *hint hint*.
Personally, I've been listening to Zombie Girl. Mostly the remixes of 'Bleeder' but the other stuff is quite jolly too. It's gothy-industrial-dance with a sense of humour; however, I think I might go and listen to Dark Side of the Moon now after reading this page. I love the gloriously indulgent music contrasting with the deep sense of meaningless life in the lyrics.

I got my Rough Trade comps today, and packed them both for weather dependant listening. If it brightens up later, I've got my Indiepop, but if it rains again, it's Post Punk. They're both ramshackle things of wonder, but one's just a lot chirpier than the other.

In an odd parallel, I bought the new issue of Uncut this fine morn, and the cover CD was compiled by the very same Mr Dylan. It's tracks from his radio show, and promises to be a diverting listen on the way home, especially as I think that the Rough Trade Post Punk comp is actually summoning the torrential rain with its shambolic brilliance.
I'm not much of a Dylan fan, I'll admit. Great songwriter - he's been well covered by too many artists to list - but i find his performance style somewhat lacking.

Nyak nyak nyak... I've not listened to that album in yonks. Swimming against the tide of popular opinion at the time, I liked it, though I admit it's not quite on a par with his other works. Whaddaya think of 'Chosen Lords'? Again I like it, even if it is a little simplistic when compared to other 'phex stuff.
And what about The Tuss? I'm going to make a stab at getting that EP, just so i can throw my hat into the 'is it Richard D James, or just another Cornish electro boffin?' ring.
I'm still (STILL!) on the Post Punk comp. It's chuffling brilliant all the way - even the po-faced teutonic cover of 'Sex Machine'. Once my Earth album finally (FINALLY!) arrives though, I'll be all over that like a cosy blanket.

Still listening to lots of Barenaked Ladies, still. Just got a copy of their new album "Barenaked Ladies Are Me" which I recieved as a Christmas present, but it was a special edition 5.1 sound something or other and, long story short, it was a DVD, so I couldn't rip it to my computer or listen to it in the car which kind of deterred me from listening to it all together. Anyway, flash forward to a few weeks ago and I picked it up. It's a good album, but I kind of miss their older stuff... I love "Gordon." It's one of my top five albums of all time. I also really enjoy their later albums: "Stunt" is great, "Everything to Everyone" is brilliant, but I'd like to here some of their older song styles make a return. As it stands, BLAM is good, but a little... mellow. It lost the a lot of the frenetic energy that they used to have. One has to wonder if they are getting more mature or just a little older.
Ah, screw it. It's still a really good album, and they're still my favorite band.
And in other news, I went to the library recently where I raided their classical section. Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Vaughn Williams, Ravel. I'm gonna crack into them tomorry.

For some reason, Amazon rejected my order for Boris and Sunn O))). This was an unexpected and vexing delay, especially seeing as I got my Earth album on Friday and have listened to little else.
I've never really encountered proper drone before, and it was something of an eye opener. Halfway through 'Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine' I lost all feeling in my extremities. I sat, gormless, for over an hour, unable to do much of anything. Brilliant. Made my train journey to London go like a flash.

He sounds like a happier, more tuneful, English Willy Mason who sings about cuddles being the best thing. He comes from Cornwall and always wears sandals.
Here is a YouTube link for a live take of one of his songs. When he does this one live, he just stamps his feet and gets the crowd to clap along.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah was on MTV|TWO earlier and made me remember how awesome he is.
