Beckys is giving me music... ooh.
Damn straight she is! In fact, she is using her shiney shiney Vinyl converter to make her 7" singles into MP3s. So far, the list has been:
Ave Maria (Not a 7". Actually a 1904 Gramophone record)
The Cure- Love Song
Lipps, Inc- Funkytown
fields.-Heretic
and then currently uploading, there is:
The Stranglers- Golden Brown (with added crackle)
Madonna- Get Into The Groove
Blondie- Call Me
Yet to be ripped:
The Cure- Lovecats
Boney M- Daddy Cool
The Guillemots- Trains To Brazil
The Rapture- Get Myself Into It
Franz Ferdinand- Do You Want To
M Craft- You Are The Music
The Monkees- Last Train To Clarksville
Bonnie Tyler- Holding Out For A Hero
Donna Sumer- Love To Love You Baby
Amii Stewart- Knock On Wood
(and then I'm going to bed)
Yay musics! And whilst I'm converting these, I'm listening to The Fall.

Currently I'm listening to 'The Dark Side of the 80s', a compilation album that I downloaded purely because it featured one of my old favourite bands called That Petrol Emotion. Right now it's playing The Cramps - Garbageman.
My MP3 player loves The Cramps. I put 'Off The Bone' and 'Songs The Lord Taught Us' on there, and it chucks a good fistful at me every time I plug my noggin in. 'Garbageman' is a highlight, it has to be said, but 'Human Fly' and their cover of 'Fever' are also must-haves.
FU - good to know I have my uses. And yes, slice of wonderful it is. Have you watched 'Screaming Masterpiece'? Also good. I love Slowblow with their weird and wonderful look-what-i-made-at-school-today-mum instruments - plus musical saw! Win!
Daria - vinyl ripping
and the Fall? Sounds like my kind of night in. What Fall though? And props to your 'Funkytown' 7".

Hot Chip are quite excellent - 'Over And Over' is one of the most addictive singles of recent times. Smashing. I picked up David Shrigley's 'Worried Noodles' recently, and the Chip track on that is mad as tits.
I've decided to break away from my ususal at-work random selection, and actually listen to some albums as the bands intended. First up I've got Burial's 'Untrue' - an album that makes me pine for the heydays of triphop. Portishead back for 2008? So say the rumours - though they've been saying that for about five years now.

I can't STAND dubstep. Just do not like. Trouble is, Wytu bums it and loves Burial. I mainly don't like Burial because of the anoying vocals that make it sound like bad 90s Garage. Oh dear. That's how it happened for me. I was a bit sniffy about the whole thing, and then 'Archangel' started to get under my skin. Now I don't
love it, but I do enjoy it.
Some management bigwig has taken away our music-at-work priveledges (boo...) but I can still get a few tunes in on the way and the way back. A combination of Faith No More and Peeping Tom put a spring in my step this morn. Marvellous.

I'm doing IT support for Phones4U. Yes, I do often say 'turn it off, turn it on again'. It works, damnit.
Daria is right, the album is 'Untrue' - and it's a grower. I've picked up his first, self-titled album, but I've not listened to it yet. I've heard 'Night Bus' off that album, and it's a particularly mournful tune made mostly of rain and brief snatches of radio. It's oddly like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, though I doubt the rest of the album follows in that vein.
I recently picked up a buttload of albums from my old boss at his new second-hand music venture, www.musicmagpie.co.uk - a must-visit for those of you who actually still pay for music. I was especially happy with my acqusition of 'Spiderland' by Slint (woo! wonky misery mit guitarism! Mogwai taking notes in background!) and 'Anniemal' by Annie (for my inner pop bitch - 'Chewing Gum' was the best single I'd heard in whatever year it was it came out...), though I've yet to listen to 'Real Life' by Joan As Policewoman, 'Rounds' by Four Tet, and my revisit to Tricky's 'Maxinquaye' is looooong overdue...

Heh. When his album came out last year, Wytu and I were at a record shop in a trainstation and I asked the sales clerk what the music was like (as it hadn't been picked up by my I-Don't-Listen-To-Radio-But-Know-All-The-Cool-New-Music-Because-I-Am-Cool-I-Wonder-Whether-This-Is-Cool radar). As the words "sugar pop, a bit like the Scissor Sisters" came out of his mouth, the CD was put back on the rack and we pressed on with getting the DVD we were buying. I'm sorry, I just can't stand Mika.

God bless you for that - especially the Pavement. There aren't enough Pavement fans in this world, say I. I just wish Domino/Matador would get on with that damn album special edition release schedule - I want a two-disc 'Terror Twilight'!!!
I don't mind a (tiny) bit of Mika. I found 'Grace Kelly' a fun song, but when that 'Big Girls' song came out, I nearly lost my lunch. What a truly awful bag of bums that number was...
The first disc of Rough Trade's 'The Record Shop' was my walking buddy this wet and windy morn. I remain particularly pleased with how well 'Kill' by the Mekons, 'I Wanna Destroy You' by the Soft Boys and 'Work' by Blue Orchids huddle together. Triffic.

This is almost certainly the first time that these bands have been considered similar enough to be played together. Frankly, I wish good luck to anyone who tries to dance to Venetian Snares. If you like that then you might enjoy Bogdan Raczynski's album 'Samurai Math Beats', which is a silly gem that strides between Mr Scruff and Venetian Snares. It is also probably impossible to dance to.
Throw in a bit of VNV Nation onto the list, 'Saviour' is a fairly accessible one that should get people dancing. 'Lightwave' is also good, and 'Chrome' is full-on stompy music.
You've missed out The Clash 'London Calling' and The Undertones 'Teenage Kicks'.
... And now I'm going to shut up and stop telling you what you should play because it's your gig and nothing to do with me.
Currently I'm listening to Velvet Acid Christ - 'Dial 8' from the album 'Twisted Thought Generator'. It's got loads of samples from the Playstation1 game 'Soul Reaver', which instantly makes it incredibly cool.

Long-term Lips fan here. They're too interesting for the masses, though Soft Bulletin has moments of such utter brilliance that they should be recognised as genius by all.
One of the tracks from At War With The Mystics drifted through my ears this morning, but I'm at a loss to remember which one. This is, in part, due to Hamell On Trial's shredding live version of the Johnny Cash standard 'Folsom Prison Blues' ripping through my noggin shortly after.

Soft Bulletin is a wonderful album. I heard it absolutely everywhere when I was at the Burning Man in 1999. I think they are really big with a certain type of person in California, but they're too varied in their style to really make a dent in the mainstream. Also they can sing. And aren't all female. And wear clothes in their videos. *Despairs over the state of the charts*

I love the band, but Wayne's voice is, by standard measurements, awful. It fits the style of music perfectly, and I'll always enjoy an interestingly bad voice over a technically-brilliant but dull-as-catpiss one, but still, the man could curdle milk with one verse. Just listen to him reach for the high notes - like nails down a blackboard, but in a good way.
