The infuriatingly named yet awesomely brilliant Various, and their 2006 long-player The World Is Gone. Also a bit of Mogwai's underrated Happy Songs for Happy People; Killing All The Flies always gets me very excited.

Boards of Canada - ROYGBIV

the worst part about formatting hard drives is that I always lose some chunk of music and don't remember to get it back - I have a lot, so even the best bands escape my memory.

but Boards of Canada are still epic. Thanks for the reminder x2, Leo.

I love that track- it was part of my soundtrack to the summer of 2006.

I'm currently listening to Otter Rock by the Chemical Brothers, and being amused by my "compatibility" with my friends on Last.fm (the novelty hasn't yet worn off as I only set it up yesterday)

No problemo, my dear Syuu.

I've got my grubby mitts on The Ting Ting's album, "We Started Nothing". And I have to say that the two singles they've had off it are not the best this album has to offer. I'm liking it muchly smile.gif
elphaba2
I am listening to and liking the Magnetic Fields! The album I, to be exact. My brother and I were eating breakfast to "I Don't Believe You" and the opening line--"So you quote, love, unquote me"--had us both cracking up. It's as if that goth band with all the cellos moved to the Upper West Side and got very funny very quickly.

I can safely say my contributions to this thread are about to experience a huge boost in quality - yesterday I received a package from InKy containing three specific mixes (for each time of day) containing 20+ tracks per disk. I have never heard of 70% of the bands and am very excited to start list'nin'. Thanks, music guru. wink.gif

Jealous line starts behind me, guys. Syuu, that is like getting brownies from Emeril.

Listening to Manu Chao, "Dans Mon Jardin".
Daria
I went shopping in the big smoke today, and for a change I took my MP3 player with me to drown out the noises of thousands of tourists and shoppers gaggling inanely.
It. Was. Bliss.
Among other things, I had Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip's album Angles doing the rounds and I think I am in love with it. I love how angry Pip gets when rapping, whilst staying as eloquent as ever.

1. awesome comparison.
2. TELL ME ABOUT IT.
3. Pulszar - Don't Make Me
4. ^ currently my favorite track on the aft mix. Great choices.
elphaba2
My interest is piqued by the Editors. It reminds me of good straightforward rock music of the Interpolian and Strokesian ilk.

Currently listening to "Bullets".
Daria
I love The Editors. They are on the list of Bands I Have Seen Live, During Which I Cried. Also on the list are The National and Regina Spektor.

Currently I am listening to two magpies make a din outside. I think they want sex.

Crystal Castles - Air War

this sounds like the theme of my brain, especially the upbeat-sounding music itself. i love it, it's a basket of WTF. it officially steals my favorite spot of Aft Mix, which is so far the best CD.

Currently listening to Dark Side of the 80's (which predates everyone up to their mid 20's) which has lots of fantastic tracks on it.

How odd. I've been listening to that a bit recently. I got it completely randomly when I was trawling for That Petrol Emotion downloads. It took me all week to stop humming 'Love Like Blood' last time I heard it, and now you've set me off again!

Lovin' this track a lo-ooot, it's even better than The Pirate's Gospel!

You're liking your Dubstep at the moment, then? Or is InKy introducing you to it via compilation CDs biggrin.gif

I dreamt I was listening to Cats And Dogs by Camille last night. So I guess it counts.

Would it surprise you to know that the sudden bellow halfway through 'Air War' (the one that pre-empts the whole track going seriously into the red) is one of my ringtones at the mo? You really know when your phone is going off with that little beaut, I can tell you...

I'm glad to hear that you're liking the CDs, syuu (yes, Daria, the Burial track is my doing - sorry!), but I am amazed at how quickly you received them. Amazed and relieved, after my repeated tussles with the fools (FOOLS!) at Royal Mail.

I'm not surprised you like Aftmix best, to be honest - it was my fave too - but I hope there's treats to be found on them all. wink.gif

This morning, I listened to 'Chewing Gum' by Annie three times in a row. I was in that kind of mood...

They shouldn't have changed their name from Various Productions, should they? Much easier to search for on Amazon. I only have one of their tunes - 'Home' - but I love it dearly.
Daria
I'm actually getting more and more... into? No, tolerant of dubstep as a whole biggrin.gif I think I prefer the grime side of things, though.

I'm currently listening to a playlist consisting of:

Death From Above 1979
The Grateful Dead
Interpol
Sigur Rós
Sonic Youth
Daria
I can't stop listening to Wearing My Rolex by Wiley >_>

And Snoo, I like the sound of your playlist biggrin.gif

Can't help but agree with Daria, there. That's a pretty juicy playlist.

One of my co-workers has lent me his iPod for my lunchbreak so that I can listen to the new Pendulum effort. Pretty sweet so far...

That reminds me, I want to get that one too. I've already got Hold Your Colour and it's great, but I'm really enjoying the D&B/Vocal of Propane Nightmares, even if there's a riff in there which reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on...

I'm still deeply, utterly and intrinsically hooked on The Ting Tings, though. I've not played an album to death to this extent since, ooh, last year, Artic Monkeys' "Favourite Worst Nightmare", largely because it was the only CD in the car during last year's completely washed out camping holiday. Bloody Rihanna mad.gif
Doctor Doom
Today has been for Mogwai's fantastic Mr. Beast, Thom Yorke's The Eraser, and the maddeningly addictive Yeasayer album, All Hour Cymbals, which is constructed entirely of weapons-grade AWESOME.
Industrial Kybosh
I'm rather fond of 'Mr. Beast' myself. I don't have enough Mogwai, if I'm honest, but what I do have I enjoy immensely.

This morning was another one of those moods, which led to a triple-play of Bomb20's 'Made Of Sh*t!' - pop music to be played on synth and cement mixer. Hideous noise made into danceable genius. Very much my kinda thing.

Just get everything, save the Zidane soundtrack. Come On Die Young and EP would be my essential Mogwai picks.
Industrial Kybosh
Understood. I shall update my wishlist henceforthwith.

I'm on a Hefner tip at the mo - combination of sunshine and a general whimsical feeling. 'Hello Kitten' is possibly the best - and oddly sweetest - song about masturbation ever recorded.
Daria
Killing All The Flies was part of my summer soundtrack to 2006. I love that song, and Mogwai in general. As post-rock goes, they don't seem to totally follow suit- and I love their Scottish accents.

This morning's selection has been a bit of Mother Mother, TV On The Radio, Tom Vek, The Ting Tings (they ARE awesome, aren't they?), Delorean and Metric. I've also had Those Dancing Days by Those Dancing Days on again and again. I think it's this summer's Happy Clappy Summery Tuney.

Although I have a thing about female singers (I don't generally like them), for the previous two days, I've been listening to PJ Harvey, the YYYs, Scout Niblett (InKy- if you don't know her, check her out), The Distillers, Queen Adreena and a little bit of Le Tigre. Just a smidgen.

To a greater or lesser degree, I've got a bit of everything in that list, and I likes it all. Actually, I don't have much Scout Niblett, but I like what i do have, including the surprisingly sensible offering on the David Shrigley 'Worried Noodles' album. Now, there's two CDs of wrong...

PJ Harvey, however, I have loads of. Despite Mata's assertations to the contrary, I am not a lesbian.

This morn was enhanced by my new chirpy-happy playlist, and particularly 'Joining A Fan Club' by Jellyfish - the last word in glam cuteness.

Last night I spent an evening in the company of a stack of albums I'd been meaning to listen to whilst my wife was being reluctantly dragged round town by her sister. The following were enjoyed:

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes (just brilliant - all harmony and lush music)
For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver (what's not to like about an album recorded in a shack by a man subsisting on only what he can trap and kill, and any leftovers his dad provides? haunting...)
The Last Temptation Of Chris - Chris Difford (exactly what you'd expect from an old Sqeeze hand - wryly satisfying pop)

The first two were the most recent installments from my Rough Trade Album Club subscription (an album a month selected by the staff at Rough Trade Shops - guys who reeeeally know their shiznit), whilst the last was a free gift from my Word Magazine subscription. I probably wouldn't have bought the last one otherwise, but after listening to it, I'm glad I have it.
I_am_the_best
Here Comes The Sun - the Beatles

Lovely music to revise maths to.
Industrial Kybosh
Since putting it on the end of a comp for my old boss, I've had 'Soon To Forget Ya' by Julian Cope in my head, and so I've decided to give it a spin. Top chuntering from the arch-drude, with a finish that sounds like a group of David Bowie impersonators out on the lash.

God is an Astronaut - Remembrance Day

I lurve GiaA... saw them live a few months ago and although I was very drunk the show was AMAZING!
leopold
Currently listening to The The "Soul Mining" album, which is for me Matt Johnson's finest hour. Seven utterly corking tracks.

Currently on track 4, "Uncertain Smile", which makes the hair on my neck stand on end and makes me wish I could tickle the ivories as well as Jools Holland can.
leopold
Random album choice for listening to instead of whilst I'm working is big haired Welsh eighties rock underachievers The Alarm, more specifically their album Declaration. The album which consists of their biggest hit, Sixty Eight Guns (which is on now, incidentally).

Random useless trivia: The daughter of one of my old schoolteachers married Mike Peters.
elphaba2
I am kicking it middle school with some Sublime--"Garden Grove" at the moment. Good morning, ninety-seven degrees! I have music that was produced during you!
Industrial Kybosh
I've been battering three tunes today:

'Lava' by Silver sun - pure summery bubblegum punk with Beach Boys harmonies. Could it be any sunnier?

'Bobbi, Bobbi, Bobbi - I'm Not God' by Karma To Burn. Top rocking, sirs! And what a title!

'National Shite Day' - Half Man Half Biscuit. Inevitable, really. A catchier slice of misery one could not possibly hope for.

Just to spite Leo (and all of England! Bwahahah!),

It's out at the end of this month according to an ad on the back of Word. I feel a strong urge to preorder...

Still on a potent HMHB tip. They're one of those bands that you listen to in blocks, and I'm very much in a nowt-but-Biscuit period right now.
leopold
No, I'm not listening to the Ting Tings, for a change tongue.gif

Thinking about the Chilis earlier on, I decided to plonk "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" on the player. Such a shame I don't have my turntable connected, I could play my vinyl version, which sounds so much nicer...

And as I recalled, it's far superior to anything they've pumped out in the last decade or so. Such a shame, because this album shows such promise - fusing the laid-back Californian style with some some serious arse-kicking rock to give something which is genuinely different. Then they go and get all Cali on us and churn out the same old relaxed guff time after time, becoming very formulaic in the process. Not so much red hot chili pepper as mild and creamy cheddar cheese; bland and inoffensive.

Go on, boys, put those tube socks back on your willies and give us more songs like "Suck My Kiss". Please!
Doctor Doom
I spent much of yesterday listening to the new Sigur Rós stream. It's an exciting time! I'm digging this new, upbeat Sigur Rós very much.

Today I've been enjoying Hearts Of Oak, an amazing album by Ted Leo & The Pharmacists that I must insist be owned and enjoyed by every ear-owning member of the human race. I also gave The Distillers' Coral Fang a spin, and it made my heart beat faster and my brain fall over, which is all I ever really want from a shouty punk-rock album.

Now I'm allowing the grainy synth fuzz and worn tape hiss of the new Paavoharju album wash over my brain. It is called Laulu Laakson Kukista and it is brilliant.
