Been at the radio again so playing a few tracks from local talents to north-west Surrey.

Paul Weller (of course), and some stranglers in the mix but also Newton Faulkner and Billy Irvine - my pick of the week. New artist from what I know call hometown-Woking. Dirty bluesy guitar and digerydoo. Can't get much better! Check out www.billyirvine.co.uk

Also, today I have mostly been listening to Bedouin Soundclash - Album: Sounding a Mosaic. Very cool

^ I keep being told to listen to them!

Currently on an excellent playlist of Flaming Lips (mostly AWWTM) Beck & the Mountain Goats. It's a pleasantly indie Sunday.

Also, Mountains by Biffy Clyro. Awesome in it's own right but the accoustic version is an absolute winner!

Humperdinck - Hansel and Gretel
Oh I'm feeling nostalgic and lonely. I actually love this feeling.

Listened to Tv On The Radio's newie 'Dear Science' yestermorn, and was so taken to it that i fast-tracked it onto my MP3 player and listened to it again on the way in. Definite new contender for album of the year - like Spiritualised collaborating with Outkast, or Prince filtered through Secret Machines, but overall like none and all of these. Swoon and Funk in equal measures. Absolute farkin' genius.
Industrial Kybosh
Last night I enjoyed some Aphex Twin on the way home. In the dark. Alone. After watching bits of 'Ringu' on YouTube. I wasn't the least bit scared at all. Honest.

This morny was heavily in debt to Julian Cope, with a spot of The Teardrop Explodes, and Copey's own 'Peggy Suicide'. And then some more TV On The Radio. Seriously, I think I may be in love with that album.
Moosh
Listening to a Flobots album that I just bought. I'm in a slight Flobots obsession at the moment, having discovered them, been to a giog and bought a cd all in the space of a week.

Young Folk by Peter, Bjorn and John has been in my head all day. It was on the random play on my ride to work and I've played it already once having gotten home.

Can't beat a good ol' whistle... where's "Singin' in the rain" and "Looking Back Over my Shoulder" by Mike and the Mechanics wink.gif
Daria
TV On The Radio (Young Liars EP), Chihiro, Sigur Rós and Saul Williams. Bass and tinkly.

TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE!!!

That is all.

Appreciation shown as only it should be wink.gif you're right man! biggrin.gif

I'm listening to Rozi Plain. She's allllll kinds of mellow, and has this song about being eaten by sharks.
Industrial Kybosh
After a bit of half-hearted compilatory tune-sifting this morning, I enhanced my walk to work with The Bug's newie 'London Zoo'. A worthwhile punt if you're a fan of dub, dancehall and drum 'n' bass.
MisterJ
Talk about coolness, I came across a song called "Smooth," by... "Smooth"!! It was pretty good.
Industrial Kybosh
I bookended my traditional late-shift trip to Subway with Peeping Tom and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Whilst inside the 'way, however, I heard this little nugget over Signal Radio:

"If you've not heard the new Rihanna single, we'll be playing that, an 80s classic from Phil Collins, and the Waterboys"

Hmm... I'll take that sandwich to go, thanks.

I'm currently awaiting the dull thud of CD on welcome mat. Oh yes - I used your link and used it well.

syuu - yeahhh, I'm my own worst enemy sometimes. There's a string track on the 'Donkey Rhubarb' EP that gives me the willies at the best of times, and that was what I was listening to. I've never walked home so fast...

Today I have 'Parentheses' stuck in my head, from a certain mix Cd from a certain forumite. I eagerly await Vol. 4...
Daria
Keep your pants on, I'm still battling with my CD burner. Will try again this evening.

I'm so pleased you bought her CD biggrin.gif I have been raving about it to everyone I know.

The shuffle/random function has an agenda! ... 4 of the last 9 songs were from S&M - Metallica.

and... last night I impressed myself as I managed to get from the work garage were my bike is parked to my street in one song - albeit a 9 minute version. All hail Freebird for cycling
Industrial Kybosh
Relax, Daria - I'm still getting good mileage from the three you alerady sent. And how could I not get the CD after those two tunes you linked for me? Bloody good stuff in the mellow-but-interesting vein.

Today I walked into work listening to Wilco's live album 'Kicking Television'. Well, that's a lie. As usual, I got as far as 'Handshake Drugs' and kept skipping back to the beginning of that particular tune. Great song usually, but even better live.

Am listening to #365: Another Frightening Show About the Economy podcast by This American Life. Is good for explaining what's been going on with the invisible monies.

Today was brought to me by the letter H, including the following:

Ha Ha Sound - Broadcast
Hail The The Thief - Radiohead
Hard Normal Daddy - Squarepusher
Hello Young Lovers - Sparks
Heroes To Zeros - Beta Band
Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006 - Venetian Snares

Stay tuned for more Sesame Street style alphabetical action.

I'll have a P please, Bob:

P.H.U.Q. - The Wildhearts
Peace Love Death Metal - Eagles Of Death Metal
Peeping Tom - Peeping Tom
Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Phantom Power - Super Furry Animals
Pig Lib - Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks
Pink - Boris
Pink Flag - Wire
Play - Moby
Proof Of Youth - The Go! Team
Push The Button - Chemical Brothers

A tune from each to keep me happy on my way in to work. Now I have to decide on a letter to take me home again.
Yannick
Alles Aus Liebe - Die Toten Hosen

Getting sick of this song as it's on repeat. But it fits my mood.
TigerLily013
Nothing at this moment, but last song I listened to before I came back from my power walk outside was Shinedown - Sound of Madness.
Industrial Kybosh
'P.H.U.Q.' by the Wildhearts - a sure-fire indication that I'm depressed to f@ck.

Yesterday it was 'Inside Over Here' Rozi Plain, one Daria's faultless recommendations. Beautiful. Put me in mind of Cat Power with a touch of whimsy and quirk instead of introspection. The song about being eaten by a shark is worth the admission price alone...

And then I got a haircut. My neck is cold.

[EDIT] It's been bothering me, but I think I've put my finger on it - the Rozi Plain album is a peculiar and wonderful meeting point between Cat Power's 'Moon Pix' and Sufjan Stevens' 'Illinois', with a good dose of the artist's own personality. What d'you reckon, Daria? Close, or way off?
Industrial Kybosh
Boris, Boris, Boris. The track 'Just Abandoned My-Self' is human headcleaner - hard rockin' to begin with, it locks into a mighty riff for a few minutes, the drums drop in some funk, and then finally the whole lot slowly collapses into fuzz, feedback and drone. The last five minutes is basically made of the sounds 'SPRONNNNG' and 'eeeeeeeeee', and I bloody love it. Impossible to form a coherent thought afterwards, which was partly the point of me listening to it in the first place.
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
I've been listening to quite a bit of chilled stuff this week, mostly Air, Death Cab, Sigur Rós, As Tall As Lions and Arcade Fire oh and Deadlock (To Where The Skies are Blue is love)

To get over the whinging, it's time for Jurassic 5. No-one can be miserable around those guys. Chali 2na = my hero.

After that, a spot of Madvillain. I like my hiphop with a slice of weird on the side.
Daria
Awesome. To go with your J5, I am listening to Mr Scruff's Trouser Jazz.

It was indeed awesome. A full day of J5, and Madvillain on the way home, made me a much happier boy. Indeed, I'd never realised how good Madvillain was for walking home in the dark wearing an ankle-scraping black trenchcoat with a hoodie underneath - perfect music for the hiphop gumshoe. Also, props to the Scruff. What a guy. He even has his own range of tea! Chap.

I needed something hefty to get my head into gear this morning, so I just went for my old fallback plan - 'Beneath The Mire' by Opeth. What's not great about prog folk death metal?
Daria
I started off this morning with a bit of M.I.A, Santogold, Lady Sov (shh) and Goldfrapp. This was good, but moved to Hot Chip, New Young Pony Club and Girl Talk. As I started cooking and cleaning, I wanted something a little funkier, so it's been Sly and The Family Stone, Prince, Isley Brothers and The J.Bs.

Yay!
Industrial Kybosh
I forgot the mention the El Guincho album I had on for part of last night. Looping beats and island rhythms - repetitive as hell, but funky enough for you not to mind. Good stuff for nodding the head, tapping the foot and shaking the booty. Not all at once.
Nice_Cup_Of_Tea
At this very moment I am listening to the hauntingly beautiful ' The Host Of Seraphim' by Dead Can Dance. Is an amazing piece of music. If I want to chill out I put it on and........sigh!

To wake me up this morning...

(Train-Goldfrapp) Up LOUD!

I always end up dancing to that and it gets me going. Needed that as it was misty and frosty in the early hours and made me feel Humph!

Liking 'Strict Machine' 'Ooh La La' and also 'Twist', crazy and lascivious lyrics and a beat that you just can't sit still to. Never fails to get people up on their feet.

Yes have played the Wonderful electric Goldfrapp to death today, only taking breaks for a much needed dose of tea every now and again. rolleyes.gif

I've been listening to the new Library Tapes album, and Rozi Plain. I think they should get together some time, in a hut in the woods and fix watches and make songs about it. And then Bjork can come over for tea.

Last night Super Furry Animals walked me home. 'Rings Around The World' makes me get all misty-eyed and rose-tinted for my days at Music Zone. It was a shit job and bad pay, but the people were excellent, and who wouldn't like a job where you get to listen to lots of new and interesting music all day? I would regularly contribute some SFA to the stereo, and 'Rings...' was probably the best-received. Great album.

In that theme, my walk in was accompanied by Manic Street Preachers' 'The Holy Bible'. No album before or since has matched it for bile and sloganeering in my estimation - every line could very well be seen on a placard in a demonstration. We were sometimes allowed to chuck it on the stereo, as, despite the rampant swearing of the first few tracks, my boss reckoned that no-one could understand it anyway. Possibly true, given James Dean Bradfield's odd way with pronunciation. Still, when the first line of the first track contains the word 'c*nt', you can't help but feel that you've crossed a line somewhere...
