Last few songs:

Blues Brothers - Hey Bartender
Son Lux - Break
Son Lux - Weapons
Gnarls Barkley - Surprise (Laugh all you want, I like Gnarls Barkley tongue.gif)
The Skels - Black Velvet Band

Seeing as I post so sporadically in this thread I figured I'd throw in a few extra.

Lots and lots of Scheer. I get a major jones for them now and then, and need to hear the beatiful Irish tones of the divine Audrey Gallagher. I'm mostly sticking to their debut album 'Infliction', but they've got a lot of EP tracks that give me ear joy on a massive scale too.

Never heard them? Clicky!

I listened to two versions of 'That's Not My Name' this morn - the original Ting Tings one, and Dizzee Rascal's Live Lounge session version. The latter is comedy gold, with some nice lyrical changes (They call me 'Blood'/They call me 'Rude Boy'/They call me 'Oi'/They call me 'Mate') set off against Dizzee's natural charm. Good gear.

I like that version, I remember hearing it on the radio. I was hoping he'd do it on Hootenanny, but the Ting Tings beat him to it. I even went to the trouble of getting the Live Lounge album purely for this track. Well, that and the incredible job Leona Lewis did of Snow Patrol's "Run".

I'm currently listening to David Guetta's "Love Don't Let Me Go" and, what with the snow outside, I'm half expecting to see a French car come ice-skating in the back garden like a modern day transformer. It's the randomiser choice, not mine, I hasten to add.
Industrial Kybosh
My sister-in-law was getting that Live Lounge CD for Christmas, so I pillaged all the good tracks for my own collection. I remember listening to it and thinking, 'hmm, this is a fun version of that Katy Perry tune', then looking at the tracklist and finding out it was McFly. I felt like bleaching my brain.

I've got some Kosheen on the go, but will shortly be making the switch to random. See you in the other thread...
Industrial Kybosh
Chopped between Howling Bells and Secret Machines today, mostly because they've both got new albums out or on the way. Colour me excited.

I've also been discovering that most of the love songs I own are very depressing.
gothictheysay
I can't wait for the new Howling Bells album!

Right now it's Neko Case, who I haven't listened to before, and last night I went to sleep to Takk by Sigur Ros.
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
The Decemberists seem to be popping up on my random quite a bit tonight.
Currently K's Choice - Virgin State of Mind, I was not even aware I had this yet I seem to recognise it...

I just baked a cake!!!

I've got all three so far! Plus the Dermot O'Leary saturday sessions. Plus Later...Live with Jool Holland. I love live music, and a decent cover is great too (not to say that all the versions are good but there are some gems).

And as for the McFly comment Mr InKy I must note that I played their version of A Town Called Malice on my show on Wednesday night and while it doesn't hold a spark to the wonderful Jam greatness I must say, they can do a far better job of it than some others might. (Okay, there's a gruding respect for a band that is actually a working functionable capable band even if most of it is a little too pop-tinged for my liking)

Anyway, now that's over... Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Mainly "Eve of War" (with naration) and "Forever Autumn" as they're the only two I have at home but they've been'a loopin'.
Industrial Kybosh
gothic - yeah, I've got my preorder on for it already. Very excited. Also, good call on Neko Case. Which album? I'm a fan of 'Blacklisted'. 'Deep Red Bells' gets me all a-tingle.

Smiler - nice bit of grudging respect there. In all fairness, they are the most acceptable of the bands in their pop peergroup. It's not as if it's Busted. Shudder.

I had an interesting mish-mash yesterday of a home-crafted comp from a colleague (mostly American alternative, and mostly very good), Animal Collective's latest (flippin' gorgeous) and Christina Aguilera (got her best-of for Christmas, and yeah, OK, I mostly love it - some of the early stuff is a bit bum, but post 'Dirrrty' it's all gravy, and the last few tracks are a bit Goldfrapp). After that I tinkered with my new USB turntable, which meant some quality time with the Pete Green EPs I bought months ago. Lovely twee indiepop, the finest example being 'Everything I Do Is Gonna Be Sparkly'. You know exactly what you're getting from the name alone.
gothictheysay
Twas 'Fox Confessor Brings the Flood'. The only one I have but that's only as of right now.

Went to bed to Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward by A Silver Mt. Zion, and have discovered an amusing and somewhat quirky band called the Silver Jews.
Industrial Kybosh
Strongly recommend 'Blacklisted', then. It's got a lovely dark undertone to it, as well as being a damn good bit of alt-country. Some other interesting selections there, too. I'm liking your recent listening work. wink.gif

I realise now that I forgot to put Pavement's 'Brighten The Corners' on my list of listens yesterday. For me, it's the weakest of their albums, but it's still Pavement, so it's still good. The bonus tracks on the 2CD reissue, though, are the best of the selection so far. Roll on 'Terror Twilight'.

Mostly Half Man Half Biscuit for me this morn. I've not given them a proper listen for a while, so I flicked about between the stuff I have, before settling on 'Achtung Bono' for a good dose of 'Joy Division Oven Gloves'. Comedy gold.
Smiler
Mixed bag today as my Brooklands show is a pretty much a mish mash. Did get to play two Beatles tracks ('Lady Madonna' & 'Norwegian Wood) plus the Prodigy's version of Ghost Town so was pretty happy.
Ashbless
Way, way too early this morning I listened to Smiler's show. Well, the last half hour anyway. tongue.gif

Currently? The Q in Victoria, the cat purring, and the hum of the computer fan.
Smiler
That's dedication for you (I loves ya Ash)
I've got American Hi Fi on as I type - Wall of Sound
elphaba2
Beirut, mm. Gulag Orkestar right now. Suitable, because it's freakin brick out and faintly-morbid East-European-sounding dying orchestras suit the numbness in my extremities quite well.

Music compliments from InKy! I can now die satisfied with my music tase biggrin.gif

Today so far it has been Of Montreal and Psapp.

*music taste, not tase. I don't know what a music tase is, but I imagine it hurts.

I feel a dull itch in my sarcasm sensors, but I'll take that one as read. wink.gif And another pair of good acts, there, once again. I was pleasantly surprised by Psapp's cover of Al Stewart's 'Year Of The Cat' - a song firmly embedded in my childhood.

My brain did its thing of locking on to one song over the last few days. In times of stress, it helps me concentrate to have a piece of music do all the emoting for me, and let my body get on with the business of staggering blindly through the day.

Mercury Rev - Across Yer Ocean
Daria
Billie Holiday. I love her.
Also, last time I was listening to her, the next song that came on (random woop!) was by Busy P. I'm so pretentious happy.gif

Listening to Fear Factory. Gonna go make taffy. Does this make Fear Factory taffy-metal?

Tune. I'm quite fond of the TV On The Radio cover as well.

Injected a little bounce back into my step with 'D.A.N.C.E.' by Justice. Sweeeeet.

Cool!, I haven't listened to D.A.N.C.E in a while I'll dig it out some time today for a listen

Im listening right now to "The Night" by Frankie valli and the four seasons.
Daria
Man, Justice were awesome when I saw them in October. I just wish I wasn't so tired at the gig sad.gif

I'm revising- so instead of faffing about with CDs (yes, I still use them. I'm so retro) I'm just listening to my last.fm library. It's currently Fidelity by Regina Spektor, previously to that it was some Glen Porter.

Yesterday I was listening to a lot of 90s Big Beat and it made me want to go out and party. Stupid exams getting in the way of anyone else being up for it ;-;
Industrial Kybosh
I was wondering why you were suddenly so party-hearty yesterday, Daria. It wasn't the snaffling of weapons-grade amphetamines that I suspected, then... wink.gif

'(Nice Dream)' by Radiohead. Crawton is still trying to be a bit subdued, but I'm forcing him to get a bit more upbeat today. Let that one pass by, though, seeing as it's just too flippin' gorgeous.

Amphetamines just aren't my thing, sadly. I'm much more of a strong opiates kinda gal.

Skag me up, bee hatch.

Oh god, look what revision has done to me >_<

Listening to Maps - The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Another band that were outstanding live.
elphaba2
Mm, strong opiates and YYYs. I saw them in Brooklyn some time ago and came to the conclusion that Karen O is Godzilla.

Currently listening to all of the Sufjan Stevens I nabbed from Mojo---"We Are What You Say".

That statement amused me rather a lot. I am also tempted to agree. I think Tokyo may need to consider a restraining order, just in case.

I flung some of the usual bounce that I do when I need uplift - Justice (again), Sonny J, Aphex Twin, Go! Team - and a spot of Camille that seemed to go nicely with the low-slung sun on this cold but otherwise very pleasant day. I am longing for springtime.

[EDIT] Seriously can't be f@cked with work today, so, seeing as we're self-regulating today (i.e. no management, only us poor rank-and-file fools) I've decided to carry on listening to the Go! Team. Right now it's 'Junior Kickstart', which, in a just and fair world, would be the soundtrack to a blaxploitation spy movie.

No sarcasm! Just slight hyperbole. wink.gif

I love Thunder Lightning Strike. Right now there is no music as I'm watching the inauguration, but the past few days have seen The Arcade Fire, Radiohead, and Metric - Funeral/Neon Bible, In Rainbows, and selections from everything Metric-wise. I love them so much they've hopped up to fifth on my last.fm charts. They're at the top of all my three-month, six-month, one-year rolling charts too.
leopold
I've given up on the randomiser for a while, as I stumbled upon a classic which deserves a proper listen: Jeff Wayne's "War Of The Worlds".

#The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one they said.
The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one...
...but still they come!

Joy, joy, joy biggrin.gif

Nobody really makes concept albums any more. Maybe it's because it's harkens back to the 70s, when rock was erroneously perceived as high art. Perhaps it's because for every gem like this and "Quadrophenia", there were loads of dreadful ones. Or possibly it may be because artists these days aren't as dedicated to such a cause.

Where you stand is obviously a matter of personal preference, but I think it's a damn shame that nobody does this any more.
Industrial Kybosh
And another faultless selection from gothic. I also love 'Thunder, Lightning, Strike', but was genuinely surprised by 'Proof Of Youth'. Sometimes, when I'm in the right mood and listen the right way, I could even prefer it to the debut. Plus their cover of 'Willow's Song' on the bonus disc is an absolute joy.

Oddly enough, 'pold, one of my colleagues was discussing that very album the other day. I once sort-of got into trouble at Music Zone because of that album. We had it on the stereo and I was singing alone in a suitably bombastic fashion, little realising that my boss was trying to interview someone. He'd just covered his expectations of professionalism in the workplace when my voice filtered through to him, leaving him desperately trying to stifle his mirth. Good times.

Over my two lovely days off, I listened to three compliations (the latest Word freebie, a hand-made Christmas comp from the aforementioned old boss, and 'Contaminated VI', a Relapse Records sampler of unmatched noise) and a clutch of albums - 'Alpinisms' by School Of Seven Bells (or SVIIB as they charmingly call themselves), 'Demon' by Envelopes, 'World Is Gone' by the annoyingly-named Various, 'Crazy Itch Radio' by Basement Jaxx (their weakest so far, but still funk-ay) and 'Merriweather Post Pavillion' by Animal Collective. Triffic, one and all.
elphaba2
Valerie Plame--the Decemberists

I'd never heard of this album before, but someone in my Neuroscience class had it on their Mojo and I nabbed it (Always a Bridesmaid). The lyrics in this one are perfect--'oh Valerie Plame/if that really is your name/I will shout the same/to the world'.

Best song about a CIA leak ever.
elphaba2
Metric, at the mo. Apres, j'vais ecouter a Japancakes, qui produit une musique assez bien, assez douce. C'est un type qui encourage bien les etudes et cela est ce qu'il faut faire.

And a healthy dose of Misfits and Atmosphere once that's done, I think.
Industrial Kybosh
Burial, and bits and bobs from the first two Silent Hill soundtracks. It's mad foggy round here, so it just seemed apt.

Also listened to the new Secret Machines album last night. It's good, but it hasn't quite grabbed me like 'Ten Silver Drops' did. Give it time...
Smiler
Last couple of buys have included The Hoosiers last album & All American Rejects new album. I'm flicking between the two at the moment and liking both.
Rubium
Im listening to Radio Shuttleworth - I just downloaded the entire first series and I must say its fantastic.
Industrial Kybosh
I've been listening to the first twelve of the twenty CDs I've found myself burning over the last week. A mish-mash of indie, punk, metal, electronica, soul, hardcore, hip hop, jazz, ambient and any other chuffing thing my soon-to-be-ex-colleagues requested for their own personal mix. It has made me realise just how much I love 'California Soul' by Marlena Shaw, though. A definite Desert Island Disc, that one.
Daria
You might like this version of that track, then!

Post rock and Funk have been today's music.
Industrial Kybosh
Presuming the linky has sounds, I'll check that out when I have a puter that works in such ways. Stupid crappy noiseless work puter... dry.gif

I'm in a Young Marble Giants mood today. I think that'll soundtrack my weary wander homeward.

Im in much the same mood right now, but I dont have any on my computer other than "Posted by models" and I cant be bothered to search for any other tracks.
So the next best thing is "Airport" by The Motors laugh.gif very electronica 80s and very very good

Any YMG is good YMG. I'm a bit of a fan of 'Final Day', 'N.I.T.A.' and 'Eating Noddemix', but anything off 'Collossal Youth' is good with me.

This morning was a little more 'ardcore - Bomb20, EC8OR and finishing off with 'Dance Like You're Selling Nails' by Venetian Snares.
Industrial Kybosh
Totally Urusei Yatsura today, leading to a bit of a sig change - one which suits me to a T, I reckon.
Industrial Kybosh
Just as the few faint strands of sunshine led me to 'Slain By Urusei Yatsura' yesterday, so the grey skies and misty rain of this morning swept me t'ward the shores of Opeth's 'Ghost Reveries'. Bitchin'.

Listening to lots of NIN at the moment after Reznor has announced he is going to disappear for a while.
Daria
Speed Caravan after asking a friend for suggestions of "dancey music with guitars that isn't indie shmindie". It isn't very dancy, but it does have guitars and reminds me of Asian Dub Foundation.
Industrial Kybosh
Interesting. Now, ADF is a band I haven't listened to in a long time. Partly because I don't have any. Bah.

Manic Street Preachers today, in my semi-regular 'Holy Bible' revisit. Totally unmatched by any artist for quality sloganeering and polemic, least of all by the band themselves. Never has a descent into Dadrock been more tragic...
Yannick
Leaving Jesusland by NoFX over and over again. Won't stop 'til I have it memorized. This band is awesome.

I Am the Walrus by the Beatles for the 346 time this year apparently. (My itunes does not lie)
Daria
Fever Ray (the female half of The Knife)'s debut album. On repeat. All day.

A family-sized portion of ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. I get to listen to music at work again! Yay!
