Fire in the disco! Fire in the disco! Fire in the Taco Bell!
Love that song! And yay! for Sigur Ros!
Debaser - I respect your QOTSA, Pixies and ATD-I listenings. Keep it up.
Today I went to sign on, and was accompanied on the way by 'Three EPs' by the Beta Band, which suited my mood and the pleasant weather perfectly.
Later, I went on a big single-buying flid, and bought (then listened to) the following:
Bent - 'Magic Love' - pleasant in a mellow UK Garage-y way.
Athlete - 'El Salvador' - fun and cheery and light and lovely!
Hot Hot Heat - 'Bandages' - even more fun. And with a Hammond. Word.
Mew - 'Comforting Sounds' - one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard in ages. A mix of Flaming Lips and a bit of Sigur Ros (not too much...), with an androgynous Scandinavian vocal that you can't help but fall in love with. BUY THIS SINGLE!!!

Another day of mix tapes and Radio 6...
I did, however, listen to Radio 3 late last night, and was greeted by all manner of great and odd tunes. The only ones I recognised were an Aphex Twin mix of David Bowie's 'Heroes' (it was chuffin' brilliant, and is apparantly on the new '26 Remixes For Cash' album) and one of the Untitleds from '()' by Sigur Ros (I couldn't remember which track it was - possibly Untitled 4).
Lovely lovely lovely, and the perfect soundtrack for a very strange conversation with my ex.

I'd be intrigued to know what else you liked from that list, Debaser...
You're so right about the Hot Hot Heat tune - I had it on as I did the dishes earlier. Great Hammond intro - very Doors!
Got Radio 3 on now for mellow randomness. Lovely.

i do like that new athlete song, wasn't dead keen on the one before mind (beautiful). i've only heard the one mew song, she came home for christmas, thought it was amazing...as for the other two, way outta my league...

The singles before and after that ('Am I Wry? No' and the current one) are better, in my opinion, but 'She Came Home...' is excellent.
As for the Polyphonic Spree, I've only heard a couple of their tunes, but they've put a smile on my face. They also did an excellent remix of 'Scorpio Rising' (that Death In Vegas feat. Liam Gallagher tune), with french horns and everything.
So yeah, I like what I've herad.

heard their remix of the DiV song, interesting but not exactly their best work...the 3 singles they've released off it (hanging around, soldier girl and light & day) are probably their finest moments so far. and live, they're an experience...30-odd fully-grown adults running around the entire venue in white cassocks...
i want one now.

The outfits really are special, aren't they?
'Light & Day' is the single I have, and that's great. I've also heard 'It's The Sun', and thought it was pretty smart - a bit like a dayglo Pink Floyd from a certain angle...
Debaser
Mar 26 2003, 12:07 AM
there's definitely something about them. you should've seen they mayhem when they were throwing a couple into the crowd...
i've got the album somewhere. "it's the sun" is really good, and apart from a couple of misses (the last track...half an hour of "DOOOOOOOOOOOFFF! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFF! AAAAAAAAAAAH!"), it's pretty solid...

They really do sound like a good live act. I'll have to check 'em out if they do Manchester or Liverpool or similar.

Seems likely...

spamming threads
its the choons thread isn't it an i was singing an oompa loompa choon.
and oh so sorry if it was a little of your desired topic oh Mondo Akimbo A-Go-Go but as you will notice every damn topic goes off topic, sometimes quite bizzarly, which is usually always fun, i don't like it when in happens in my topics either but it happens and i don't take it out on someone, you were overly annoying sarcastic to the point of ... well there's a point and you reached it buddy... and NO i'm not sure what my origional point was.

oh i'm very against the plebian remark
and i personally don't find magenta at all striking, i find it bland and useless.
and i haven't insulted you this time, nor have i felt that i have insulted you yet but if i did sorry, if i didn't quit being a baby and have fun on the forum and watch the new LGG and enjoy

In absolute seriousness now:
This is not the choons thread - that would be Choons of Choice. This is the What Have You Been Listening To thread - subtle but important difference.
There is also a difference between threads going off at a tangent and out-and-out spamming. My conversation with Debaser about Polyphonic Spree and webhosting was a tangent - each post followed on from something that was ontopic. Yours was irrelevant spam - unrelated to anything that went before, and not particularly funny.
Finally, whenever I've insulted you before, it was in the spirit of fun, just like I do with everyone else on the forums. And the 'plebian' remark was there to highlight the pretentiousness of my own post, coz I like a dig at myself from time to time.
If you want right to reply, PM me. This thread doesn't need any more of the saga of me vs you.

Hot Hot Heat and Ramones day today - sun is out, and I'm feeling punky.

Reet, so I's been on a downloadin spree an grabbed some o the choons mentioned in other posts. An today I been listenin ta them... Wanna know what I got an what I think? No?? Tough, yer gettin it anyways!!
In no particular order...
Sevendust - kinda like Linkin Park but wi'out the rap. Which is no bad thing! Quite liked 'em.
Rancid - After listenin ta California Sun an Time Bomb I realised I knew em after all (d'oh!!) Need ta listen to a few more but seems good so far.
Ultraviolence - After a coupla tracks I remembered I'd heard these before too... usta know a goth chick an she played these in her car fer me a few times but I clearly forgot the name. I can see me listenin ta this again, but I'd need ta be in the right mood. Like the one I wus in this mornin
Evanescence - Oddly never listened to em before. Most of the tracks I got (off Fallen) were wrecked but what I heard sounded pretty damn good. I see meself partin wi some money here!
Zeromancer - Good stuff. Neo Geisha reminded me a bit of Curve, only wi'out the female lead. Ya see how I relate music ta other music? Lame pidgeonholin...
VNV Nation - I always thought Front 242 would sound better if they had more punch. I feel vindicated! Then I noticed that these guys covered Circling Overland, so mebbe they thought the same as me... Me wonders if they did Headhunter as well... Woulda bought an album today but HMV had sold out
I feel much happier bein told about these. I have new reasons ta buy records again. Thanks you guys!
