dearest all knowing and uber creative mata,
i have been noticing myself getting pop ups, and i think they might be the forums... is this true? or am i getting pop ups just because im on the internet (many times i dont have anything open, except the forum, and i get them)
sincerally,
a guy who is tired of accidentally closing the forums getting rid of pop ups

I get one when I come here too sometimes.... but not every time I come here... *most confused* lol I think it's usually the same one too... but I never read it... lol I wish it came today so I could have paid attention to it... lol
But some websites have popups that pop up as you leave their site instead of when you first get there... (I know of at least one site that does that anyways), so maybe that could be it....?

yeah... I really think that the popups that come on my screen when I come here sometimes is probably from another website... I need to start paying attention to where I come here from when I get it... lol

You guys, go get yerself Ad-Aware, cos that will most likely kill the very thing that's covertly installed itself from whatever website ya visited. Go
here to get it...
Also, get yerself a popup blocker. I got a good one
here which can be configured so it dun block the PM popups here! One thing it does do, though, is get moaned at on missy's forum...

Do you guys have Kazaa running, even in the background? Because if you do, that'll be it. Get Kazaa Lite, that has no ads.
leopold
Jul 20 2003, 08:12 PM
Nope, it's not kazaa... or not in my case anyways... but if ya have it at all, get the ads killed whatever, cos they still run whatever.
I got blitzed wi that crap after installin a "free an useful" Outlook add-on. Even after removin it weeks later, I still got bloody popup ads... an I've run ad-aware so many times I got bored... hence the popup killer! It even nobbles the pops on Angelfire sites (which, crissi, may be your problem if ya still use yer webspace)

I have Ad Aware already... but I definitely should get a popup blocker too... Thank you, leopold

) an if ya need any help with it, gimme a shout.
Same goes fer everyone else too...

The only time you _might_ get a pop up from anywhere on Matazone.co.uk is when you close the Bravenet Guestmap. Since this is a fun little feature that I don't have to pay for I considered it a fair trade off.
Other than that this site is entirely pop-up free. As Leo says, you've probably got a sneaky bit of software sitting on your drive pulling up ads now and then. Have you installed any 'free' things from people's webpages recently? Cursor mouse-follow (I think it's called 'Comet') software for example?

TECH HELP:
some pointers ....
if you're getting popups when no explorer window is open , you definitley got a progam thats doing the dirty deed for you.
Ad blockers and the like are more often than not good enough. Those mentioned sound right and will help no end. You'll also find out many 'Commercially active' things are on your computer ... can be quite a shock. As mata said this place is commercial-pop-up free 'cept that one which is indeed a fair cop.
A warning about pop-up blockers: they can also stop wanted pop-ups so keep your eyes open.
HOWEVER:
... A quick ctrl+alt+delete, when the pop-up is up, will bring up taskmanager and a list of resources on your PC, (ermmm certainly with XP and w2000 ...)
The culprit is one of those. I open my big gob and offer tech assistence to those who want to get rid of these commercial interferers of desktops ... The game is called 'Hunt down that prog NOWWW!' and involves taking risks with your pc integrity so be warned ... shoot

If you stop pop up adverts...I think it stops the option of having a pop up notification of a PM.
I could be wrong.

YES! Indeed as mentioned earlier the PM notifications count as a pop-up, so any Pop-Up Stopping Programs need to be told to allow that particular Pop-up .... That and many more, mind, in other sites, forums and such ... IF your pop-up stopper cant be told to ignore specific pop-ups, get another one ...
Ancient expression:
I'm a pop-up stopper, and pop-up stopping's fun, I'm only stopping pop-ups til the pop-up stoppings done ...
... any mistakes while reading that one: go to Jonmans verbal abuse thread!

Some do, yes... but grab the one I linked to in me previous post... it's a free one an it's configurable!
Jus add www.matazone.co.uk to the list of excluded sites an the PMs will still pop
