I've been thinking a lot about drugs lately. I smoke weed as most of you know and I'd like to try acid and shrooms, but I have friends who use other stuff like speed, heroin, cocain and extacy. I don't like these kinds of drugs because they are genuine poison's to someone's mind and body. I met a chick not-too-long ago who was hopelessly addicted to coffee and it sickened me. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on drugs, legality, etc. I think this will make for some interesting debate.

This will sound ridiculous but I don't count weed as a drug. This has all been discussed in the pot thread but I don't count alcohol and weed as 'proper' drugs. Yes, they can be addictive, but not in the same way as heroin and cocain where the body has horrible withdrawal symptoms. I don't know this from experience but its clear to see that drugs such as this can sevearly mess up your life plans...

I have a hard time condoning any sort of drug use/abuse. My brother wasted a lot of his life because of drugs. He was in and out of boys' homes until he was 18. He ended up in jail more often than not, and landed himself a 3 year stint in prison for selling meth. He missed out on seeing his kids grow up.. he missed out on having a normal life.. and now he's 38 and has to play catch up. Luckily he's been clean and sober for the last 5 years. He has a 2 year old daughter he's raising the right way.. and he's remarrying (Saturday actually.. yay!). But.. it took a long time for him to rebuild everything.

Drug use leads to nothing but heartache for everyone involved and around it. It affects everyone.. not just the person using. A lot of people make the comment, "It's my body, it's not hurting anyone but me.".. To that, I have to say a very loud and firm bullshit. Watching someone you love tear apart his/her life is devastating. Watching the pain and suffering that person goes through is almost as painful as going through it yourself. The stress of whether or not that person will OD.. or end up pissing off the wrong person.. or etc isn't worth it. And I can't even begin to tell you the effect it has on children if they're involved. My parents practically raised my niece and nephews because my brother couldn't. When my parents weren't around, they went several days without eating.. they went to school in clothes they'd worn for a week straight.. and now.. well, sadly enough I think one of my nephews is following in my brother's footsteps. Try explaining to a teen why he/she shouldn't use drugs after you've done it in front of them for years. That's just the beginning of the problems I'm sure my brother will still have to face.

My views may be a bit jaded because of my personal experiences.. I know that not all people will become addicted and some can handle pot without turning to other drugs. Some can even go on to harder drugs without it ruining their lives. My question to you though.. why take that chance?

Having personally tried a lot of drugs and even spent a lot of time with some of them, I would have to say that while there were always the good times and the bad times, it really wasn't worth it. Like Oxy, I very well might have very biased opinions because I was using these as tools to cope with depression and also I started doing the harder drugs because of the guy I was in love with at the time. I thought it might help draw us closer. And so I took the LSD, took the ecstacy, cocaine, the list goes on and on. Like I said, yeah I had some good times, some REAL bad times, but there is not a day that goes by that I honestly wish for that life ever again. It very honestly is very dangerous and not worth it. AT ALL. So many things can happen. Overdosing. Situations such as the one Oxy mentioned. Arrest. Massive body damage. The list just goes on and on. I realize that in life there is always danger and always something that can harm you but drugs are a different kind of danger and they take your very essence away. You're not a person anymore.

And as far as one drug goes, I think Robin Williams put it best: "Ahhh any drug that makes you paranoid and impotent, yum, give me some of THAT"

I also agree with WeeJ here. I personally believe that alcohol and weed are not "drugs" in the way that other things are. And to be honest, I really think marijuana should be legalized. It's a LOT safer then alcohol. You're much more likely to be abusive, or get in a car accident, or do really stupid things on alcohol then you would on marijuana. The usual marijuana night is basically suddenly you have no food in the house and you're watching dumb movies or television and chuckling. It's very mellow and I think it's actually a very good thing when used in moderation.

Ok, kind of ranting, so I will some it up. Your choices are yours. I cannot sit here and preach and blab on and expect anyone to take what I say as fact. But I would like to say: Don't do it. It might be fun for awhile but it's going to come back and bite you in the ass and there's going to have to be a time when you "fall" from this state of inebriation and that's never an easy thing. And in that moment, when one finally begins to truly "sober up" are some of the scariest moments a person can live.

To sum up: Don't do it. Drugs are bad, mmkay?
WeeJ
A lot of wise words there.
Its going to be hard for quite a few of us to post into this thread as I doubt (big assumption here) that many of us have taken these kind of drugs.
simply,I'm a spastic

have to agree with weej on this one-knowing our damned government, they ban any drug they can,(me thinks half of em r Jonny Pot Smokers anyway) so why not ban alcohol?because it's not really a drug-in my eyes anyways.

i don't see why the government doesn't give up on trying to stop the legalisation of cannabis-its so widely used, some for medicinal purpose, not all,but some, and they're never going to squash it.so give in!!!!!PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Righteous
Actually, the reasons alcohol and tobacco aren't banned are because they are 1) part of tradition and 2) lobbied for like mad in Washington.

An 3 - cos it's taxed to high heaven.

I usta smoke weed a fair bit at uni, an I tried barbs a coupla times an had mushrooms once. The barbs were weird... we had Tamazepan (sp?) (which got banned here cos it was bein abused) an the idea was to fight the sleep. Well, first time I managed it okay, but the second I jus fell asleep. What a pointless exercise that was!

I never tried any other chemical stimulants. I figured if it didn't grow then it was prolly not gonna do me any good.

Me only vices now are caffeine (coffee, tea an cola are the staples) an the odd alcyfrolic drinky. I tend to use cola as a pick-me-up these days, all that lovely sugar an caffeine...

Drugs is a result of curiousity. If you legalize it, then those who do drugs to rebel... won't be rebelling anymore because its legal. Let people experiment with drugs and what not. It's someones own personal decision and other people shouldn't be telling them what to do and what not to do. Because you make your own choices, even if they are stupid.
jadestorm
some ppl arent jus curious about drugs...they want some sort of quick fix or escape route...alcoholics, drug addicts at least most of these are doing them for a relief of some kind. but what many dont know as they fall down the spiral into major addiction, they jus dont see what its doing to them or how many more problems they're ending up with now. All an addict cares about is his fix and that hes away from whatever hes running from... any how thats jus my thought on the subject...

btw i'm sure there are MANY other reasons for drug addicts...trying to be cool and got hooked, curiosity as mentioned on post before this. and zillions others.
Righteous
I got into weed first out of curiosity, then as a means of heightening an expreience, then as a means to cope, now I just do weed for fun and to hone in my creativity. I still want to try acid and shrooms, though, partially out of curiosity, partly to hone in in my creativity.
jadestorm
as someone who has done acid...its more hype than fun i had my good times with it but not worth as much as good times with out it....

shrooms now theres an idea.
Righteous
My friend John has done acid before and he says it's awesome. He's a creative guy like me, too. He says shrooms are awesome and would be really good for envisioning what I write about.
Righteous
I don't know about you guys, but there are times when I'm with my friends and we just need some bud. It's comparable to when you're with your friends and someone pulls out a six pack. We pull out a pipe instead. That's mainly what we use it for, to relax. Although, I'll admit, it is fun to get baked out of your skull every once in a while.
jadestorm
i do both *pot and beer* jus pot less i dont want to get to into why i dont but anyhow
Righteous
Has anyone here ever tried cocain? I'm staying away from it, but I'd like some info on it. I once swallowed two speed pills and snotred another and...wow. I was in a good mood all day. Boy, did I rock in my weightlifting class that day. I wish I would have had some during the season.
CommieBastard
I am strongly in favour of the legalisation of cannabis. Something not a lot of people know is that since Holland legalised cannabis, both cannabis use and heroin use has gone down. Reason enough, I think.
Prince Aries
ok .....i've done cocaine, its one of those drugs that can take your money, your family, and you whole world away from you. sure its a great 4 hr high but it isnt worth the amount of money or worth what it does to you....like ruining your nasal passages messing with you throat and not to mention it tastes horrid lol...but its a definite drug to stay away from.
jadestorm
jades has done it again....posting as her room mate..but soon that wont happen anymore cause she wont have him around !!! sad.gif((((
nordelen
personnally i think that all forms of herb should be made legal, for two main reasons:

1. it is less harmful than tobaco (unless it is smoked with tobaco, which is kinda wrong. nice though! smile.gif )
2. it is less harmful than beer. (we all know that this is a fact.)

on the other hand, i would'nt like the government to get their grubby mitts on it, what with them being able to put as much tax on it as they want an' all, due to it being a luxurie(sp?) item.
so maybe if it was decriminalised instead, that might work out better?

i am terribly addicted to coffee - - caffeine is a massive addiction. i get nasty headaches without it. i also cry. so-i went and volunteered as a barista at church. now i get free coffee sundays. mmmm......free coffee.
jadestorm

espresso_bean
yes. i'm applying at all the coffee houses in the area too. starbucks is the devil, but i will work for them if i can. it helps - i know asl (american sign language) and there's a 24-hour starbucks where the deaf people of the community meet regularly. i hope it helps me get the job.
jadestorm
