To begin with, I'm autistic. Yes, I am. It's not full-blown, I'm not a vegetable, I have a mild form called Asperger's Syndrome. But it's there, and I think there should be a thread devoted to discussing autism. So what are your views?

My mother is a trained therepist of autistic children. She one knew a woman with an autistic kid named Arthur (who was awesome) and she'd often bring my little sister to play with him because she said that it was good for Arthur to play with non-autistic kids. He had an older brother with a mild form of autism. He was fun to wrestle with. ANyhow, I heard a lot about how hard it was to get help for Arthur and the horror that was public school for his older brother. I really feel for them. I have bipolar and school and therepy has been a nightmare for me. They're good people and I hope and pray that Arthur and his brother grow up to be the best they can be.

What exactly is autism? I've heard of it but I think its mostly misunderstood over here as bad behavior.

Yes. Add is attention deficite disorder. I have that. It's where your brain goes a million miles an hour and you have trouble focusing on things. Autism is a lot different. Logicman, will you please enlighten our audience?

It's like, a person who sorta doesn't really... relate to the rest of the world. Half the time they're in their own world...
I dunno... I'm not sure, but I'm just basing a hypothesis on a book I once read about an autistic girl...

Autism is where the brain doesn't function properly, it's sorta like retardation...

A psychiatric disorder of childhood characterized by marked deficits in communication and social interaction, preoccupation with fantasy, language impairment, and abnormal behavior, such as repetitive acts and excessive attachment to certain objects. It is usually associated with intellectual impairment.
basicly there view on the world is unexsplainable and alot of times it takes an extra step to figure out how they do things. or how they are communicating with you... if yah wanna kinda know watch the movie house of cards.. good movie. Umm i knew a girl who was autistic. and she would rrange things. all the time. plants flowers her food. and she hardly ever talked. she just kinda spaced out. she would arrange things and it would betelling you something. but they never figured it out.. till one day her mom and dad were trying to drive somewhere and they got lost .. and she was in the back aranging peices of paper. she put them so that the larger ones pointe dto the left, they went left and they got to the doctors. so they figured out its how she was communicating and understanding.

my mother is trained to take care of autistic patients as well. she used to work in a "clinic" with them.....took them out to parks and played, to our house. she worked with FULL BLOWN autistic patients....until one got violent with her and nearly tore her nose off. most of them were very nice. some were so smart....savants. so, i was raised around autistic people - same as anyone else...some are really cool, some aren't.

My uncle Billy's retarded and has ADD,and he also thinks he's six years old.........he is amazing though-he's very gifted-he is mad about music-he loves the beatles and queen, and if you take all of his CD's out of their cases and then place them in different cases,he will know automatically, and he'll replace them into their correct cases-remember that CD's from that age had no way of identifying who they were by or what they were called.
He's amazing! Also,he can't read, but recently, when we've walked by his room,we've heard him shouting out letters-we then discovered that he's started watching Countdown(a crappy programme in the UK about making different words from letters)which means that he's recognising letters and words!woohoo!
*go billy,it's yo birthday*
