Uh, yeah. Some do mean it. A lot do, actually. Some may be doing it just to get into your pants, but it's harsh to say that all guys are like that. Not to mention wrong.

I love things like this, but girls do the same thing too. Maybe not to get some action but I have friends who jumped right into the love thing just because they liked being in a relationship. It's easy to crack on guys, but girls can be just as evil. I know I have been.

I had a best friend (a chick) who got engaged to me and to whom I lost my virginty. A few months later she called it off. It took awhile, but I forgave her and now she's still my best friend. That, to me, is love. It's the same kind of love (agape) I try to feel with all of my girlfriends as much if not more than romantic love (eros). so that's what I mean when I say "I love you."

If a man has the balls to say he's in love with someone for a quick lay, he'll surely be punished by the bitch that is karma. Fortunately, you'll find that a lot of guys don't actually stoop low enough to say those things without meaning them. Love is a very, very confusing thing, so some of the time it may even be accidental.

I say it alot. To just about everyone of my friends. I make it a point to say it daily. I say it because I might not get the chance to say it again, and I want everyone to know how I feel. When I say it, I mean it and it's not a lie.
So guys, I love you all. 'Specially you cheese.

Yes, some people only say it to get what they want. Of course there are others who truly mean it and they are the ones in this world that make mother earth so precious.
When you do find true love, it might make you think sometimes that your crazy but you know you love every second you talk to that person, that person that will be by your side physically and spiritually whenever you need them, and knowing they will always be there for you through thick and thin just as much as you'd be there for them.

Well, there's love an there's LOVE. I mean, I might say I love someone in a platonic way (but not right often, cos I'm a Brit an we dun go in fer that sorta malarkey) or I may say it sarcastically, if one o me RL buds is bein a cheeky git.
But LOVE... I tell me missus I love her every day, an it's 100% true. I've never told anyone that jus to get into their pants. I found
far more effective ways o doin that over the years

I think the problem isn't the fact that people use the "I love you"
I think the problem is what is meant by the person and what the person hearing thinks it means.
I can say , " I love you Crissi" ( sorry first name that popped up Crissi..hehe)
But that wouldn't mean I love her as a future Mrs. Beck...but maybe as a good friend, a sister, just a really nice person to be around with
But, what would she think I meant? I dunno. So, I guess you should always ask.
And yes, I know some people just use it as a "you're cool, I like you" statement, which can be really confusing...
"I love you man!!!" ...anyway ... just ask ... be honest , question everything...

I think I agree with a lot of what people have said... The word "love" is a powerful word... and has a lot of meaning... to some people. So of course there are some people who will use it to their advantage... I just think the people who play with other people's emotions like that are just mean... that's too cruel for words.
But there are many different kinds of love... I love all of my family, I love my friends, and I have been in love. I have no problem telling my friends I love them... but I make sure that if I tell a guy friend that I love him, that he knows exactly how I mean it.... "I love you, VVes... you're a great friend!" (you as an example too

hehe)

I wasn't joking, just dramatizing the full implication of the word love...
..again just because I say I love you ... you may take to mean something more than what he thinks he's saying...some guys just say it to be polite, which is both wrong and confusing...
... I meant what i said before...ask...drill him..." ok so you love me in what way (insert name here)..."
clarify what the feelings are, LOVE has no ONE meaning...
now , if people started using ...." I lust you!!..." that would make things much clearer , wouldn't it???

That word is one I go to great pains to avoid. As it stands, I didn't make use of it for over a year with my lass, and it had nothing to do with getting into pants. In the sense this thread refers to it isn't the sort of thing that one should 'just say' for one reason or another.

I tell her I love her, because I do. Some people abuse it, and they should be shot.
On a related note, men are not, with a very very few exceptions, "afraid of commitment". That myth is perpetuated by a bunch of lazy untalented novelists too unoriginal to come up with a better plot. If a man doesn't want to commit, he doesn't want to commit to you.

It's okay... I think only one guy actually meant it when he said it to me. Most of the time when they say it, I blow it off now because I know they're not sincere... but this one guy said it and I so wanted it to be true... really hurt when I found out it wasn't.

That scenario is a real pain in the padded ass.
Before you know what's happening, once they've said it,you go and say it back, even if you don't mean it!Guess it's just an
eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil reaction.
Mind you, think how stupid you'd feel if you said the Majic Words to someone and they just grimaced, smiled and said "awwww-good for you!" you'd be like "Hmmmmmmmm-
TWAT!" it is nice to have the favour returned, but also bad cos you know the other person (or yourself) doesn't mean it.........dammit!This thing really is evil
