I was writing a letter to my friend 'cause mum and I had an arguement. I sealed it up in an envelope and my mum opened it and read it! Now she thinks I hate her because I spoke the truth about her pathetic attitude.

NO! IT IS NOT RIGHT! People, even young people who old people (no offence to the old) seem to believe that we don't have the same rights as all other humans would agree with me. What the hell possessed your mother to do that? It just aint right! I still can't get over the time my mum went through my diary and CORRECTED the spelling! And yes, I can't spell, but that isn't the point!
It's just wrong rabbit. Parrents shouldn't read your things unless you say they can, or it is an invasion of privacy. I think their's a law agaist readint other peoples mail anyway. (please fill me in on this bit, the more legally minded)

I have to agree with everyone else when they say HELL NO. That is a invasion of proivacy and I would be surprised if you didnt flip on her. I am fortunate enough to have parents who respect my privacy but sometimes they ask personal questions when I am not in the mood to answer but its all good. I hope things are cool with you and your mom.

Definitely not.... Everyone needs their privacy. My mother used to open my mail and hide it from me. I hated that. I found out one time when I went to look for something in her room and I found some mail for me in there already opened.

Aug 13 2003, 11:44 PM
No its not. My parents never opened my mail..well okay they didnt pay much attention to anythin I did so I guess mail would be a really far stretch for them.
Besides in most places I believe thats a federal offence anyway. Once a letter is addressed that is.

It is... but I think a lot of kids wouldn't think to call the police and turn their parents in for reading their mail... lol

I never even told my mother I knew she was doing it... I read some of it, and complained to my sister... lol Then just left it at that... lol

My mother and I don't have a good relationship. However, she does respect my privacy. And she knows, that if she did invade it, I give her a piece of mind, then proceed to violate her in the same manner done to myself when least expected. It's one thing to be concerned over suspiciou behavior, I see no wrong in that. But for no logical reason? Uh uh.

It's perfectly legal for a parent to read thier child's mail (if they are under the age of a legal adult) at least where I live. But it still isn't right! Of course, I do think there are some exceptions. Like, if your parent suspects you of being addicted to drugs or alcohol or of being suicidal, and wants to help you, and then only if there's really a good reason for them to be suspicious. And only then if there's no other way to find out!

My mom read my diary once when I had some bad stuff happening in my life. I don't keep a diary anymore
Alanity
Aug 14 2003, 11:19 AM
I've never kept a diary even though I'm sure it would help me a lot because I don't trust my family, it's got to the point where I can't do anything with them around, I always minimise any windows when they walk in and I'm on a forum or something, and I only really leave the house when they're out. When I was younger I even felt embarrased being seen doing homework or reading by them o_O I have no idea why though. I'm pretty sure about 90% of my problems would be fixed by moving out....

parents violating privacy is strictly disturbing. My dad has a habbit of going through my magazines, ever since i told him i'm having sex,he looks at my magazines expecting o find the "F*****s Of The Month Club" or something! So i like ot leave the things that are emotionally scarring for a father to see-the odd pantyliner,a tampon, bras, and once i slipped "Gay Monthly" magazine into one of his car magazines-lol very good results

-he hasn't visited my room for a while!

Which is why I don't get or send letters, or keep a diary. My advice, get a P.O. box.

Never. If the letter is adressed to me, it is only for me to read, not my nosy parents. My parents read through a couple of my letters and uh..lets just say that they know a little bit more about me, hehe.
I hope someones parents dont read his mail...if they do, oh sh** am I screwed.

Ok... If your parents start reading your letters, start rooting around through their drawers and dressers...See if they like that shit and put it in perspective for em.

I keep a journal. My parents could read it, but it wouldn't make any sense to them. I don't write in code, I'm just weird. I keep making references to people who don't exist ("Ann's here today. I like her, but I spend way too much time with her. The others are getting more distant, especially Suzi. Brian think...") Now, when I read that, I know what it means, but to them it's just a boring account of my friendships with people they don't know.
