So according to the Sexual Offences Bill shortly to be debated over by a standing commitee of MPs, any sexual act involving under-16s is criminalised. Let's put this in perspective. 15-year-old boy kisses 15-year-old girl. Both face maximum prison sentences of five years. Two 12-year-olds do the same, and its up to fourteen years. Nice one, Blunkett, utter twat that you are. God forbid, of course, that the bill would differentiate between small and large age differences, or between light petting and penetrative sex. No, what's criminalised is "touching" an under-16-year-old, if the touching is "sexual".
The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles found the median age of first sexual experience to be 14 for girls and 13 for boys, and a Channel 4 documentary found the average age of first intercourse to be 15. According to Blunkett, who apparently is now Secretary of Morality, all these children are criminals. The British government has put forward some stupid bills before, but this really is pushing it.

all i have to say is wow, that guy needs to dunk his head in some ice-water, and stop trying to be the 'secretary of morality' as commie put it. i mean, umm....... does this have any chance of passing? who would vote for it? and what exactly is his argument for this law? how does it benefit society? (besides making everyone really pissed off)

what this really need is a hilarious counter from someone on the news. i dunno, when stupid people in power say stupid things, the best remedy is for someone to shut him/her up while being funny at the same time (note: the following example of how this works goes off topic)

an example of how this works (AND is funny): when sandra de o'connor was nominated to the supreme court, some guy (can't remember his name) said 'all good christians should oppose o'connor' (i believe he was the one senator who didn't vote for her). this comment was countered by a comment (again, i can't remember the name) of 'all good christians should give you a good kick in the *ss' laugh.gif

ohmy.gif thats not passing in America is it? i cant believe sum one would try and make a law like that.. that is sum serious bull s*it if i may so so.. wow..... thats so dumb i cant even think of a word to descire it... who ever thought of that needs to wake up and smell the hormones... kids will be kids and touching/kissing in any sexual way is going to happen... damn, adults dont understand anything anymore... i bet the guy who wants to pass the law was sexualy active before 16... what an edit.

I am in full support of this bill. I think that laws should be made to stop hormones from doing these horrible things to teenagers, and that they should expect to come within the full reach of the law.

More laws for hormones!

hmm... then i guess i was at a party last night with about 20 criminals (including myself). that bill sucks, i mean seriousley. whoever thinks that they can stop people (teenagers at that) from being the least bit "sexual" must be out of their mind! well... im an american, so im pretty sure this doesnt count for me, does it?. well, seeing as though a bunch of my friends on here are in britain, it does affect me. and it makes me angry. 13, 14, & 15 are when most kids get curious (trust me, im 13 wink.gif ) so personally i think the guys a moron. grr... now im angry... mad.gif

Wow, and I was under the impression that governments in Europe were more mature and open compared to the Americas?

I do understand hormnones, and I do understand the problems most adult parents have with their kids experimenting and getting pregnant "by accident" and how it's a strain on the economy and and a hardship for the girl because she usually gets stuck with the baby along with her parents and she thinks life is unfair to her and other such negative feelings that stem forth from this.

So, again, it is ultimatly the parents resposibility and right to look after their spawn. And , to their kids, to know better.

I don't really understand how legislation works in the UK, but if the people have any representation I bet it won't be a very popular proposed law.

Least , I hope it won't be?

Since most of our MPs are relatively with it, I doubt it will become law. It's just when the Home Secretary does something like this makes you think about what the f*ck is happening.

The problem is, of course, is that it doesn't explicitly say that sexual activity between consenting minors would be criminalised. I don't have the exact wording, but it looks like it just says it's punishing paedophiles. Hopefully someone will raise the point of consenting minors and the bill will either be amended or shot down.
Mr Fuzzy
This looks to me like one of the ones that, if passed, would be used rather more sensibly by the police. Can you really imagine a normal copper wandering behind the bike sheds at a school and clapping everybody in irons?
Juiceisgood
Yeah, but it's just another law that can be used against you when they feel like it. Like it was illegal to be homosexual in Tasmania (Australia) in 1980 or something. No one enforced it but they can when they want to. I'd prefer to be able to peeve off police/government (without breaking the law) and not get thrown in jail for my first kiss (Age nine, NINE! How many years is that!)
spuglet
well obviousley this law is intended to stop paedophiles, its just been worded really badly (bet blunkett didnt pass english!)
it will be reworded before it goes to the vote, and probably more specified.

Blunket has proven to be one of the most egocentric, meglomaniac Home Secretaries we've had in years. Even Michael How-hard wasn't so in favour of setting up a Police State. The man just wishes he could dress his own police force in jack boots and call them SchutzStaffel.

The good news is that even if this Bill doesn't get sensible-ised in the various committee stages, then the first attempt to enforce it will lead to a Judicial review allong the lines that it denies Human Rights as enshrined under the 2000 Act and in European Legislation - and the Act will be modified or totally overturned - as the courts did with Blunkett's policy initiative that people who enter the country and don't claim assylum within a couple of days should be denied food, clothing, water, medical care etc...

WHy is it as government gets bigger, it tries to control our lives more and more. This whole thing is a parental responsibility with the government wanting to be the nation's parent. I hate all of this.
Oni Usagi
I argue this. How can what's natural be wrong. I mean seriously, it's not like they're all having sex at the age of thirteen. What's the big deal if 12 year olds kiss, and why the hell should some old guy decide wheter or not it's right or wrong.

Don't Do Sex!

I can completely understand laws against pedophiles in the eyes of government. but there are still some circumstances like where the boyfriend is just over the legal age (let's say 18) and the gf is just under. however laws between 2 minors is just stupid. its people's choice if they want to kiss in their teens or before. its their choice if they want to f**k. the majority of us under legal age our responsible in our own right.
