This site is very informative.

In my opinion, humans have had their go at earth, now, it's time for them to go. We've badly polluted the water, destroyed forest, and created sprawl.
Water is not longer safe to drink unless it his highly filter, chlorinated, rinsed and oxygenated.
Forests are being squared off for farmland, destroying the ecosystem and causeing animals to become endangered.
Urban Sprawl is causing the disappearance of many species per month.
Frogs and toads are slowly disappearing from earth, a sure sign that it is becoming overpopulated. By replacing asphalt with soil, important microbes and small animals are disappearing.

People in the other area, Overpopulation, have discussed lowering the birthrate. This won't at all, as people will still have children in secret. There is no way to lower the birthrate. Therefore, the VHEMT members know that breeding must be stopped altogether. There must be a way to stop people from breeding.
Then, we can turn off the generators and nuclear powers, demolish buildings except our own, and then, slowly die out. The last one left, can, as the page says, turn out the lights. the Earth will be restored to its former splendor, and new species may rise again.

Of course, women may complain, saying, "But don't you like babies?"
Babies are bloody wonderful, especially for use on B3TA boards, but it's the adults they grow up into that hurts.

Uh...no. There is a way to lower the birthrate.

Much of Western Europe is now at zero population growth, or at least very near it. America isn't quite there yet, but we're getting close. I'm not sure about Canada, though. This means that the birthrate is approximately equal to the death rate and the population no longer increases. This happens as a nation grows more prosperous and receives more medical care, more knowledge about birth control, and people slowly start just naturally having smaller families.

As for a way to "stop people from breeding"..the only thing I can imagine would be forced sterilization. Uh, yeah. I'm sure THAT will receive some great public support.

I do not see voluntary human extinction ever happening. Sorry. Do you really think it will? You may think it's a nice idea (I sure don't), but realistically...? Do you think that the majority of people will just give up like that? I don't. Most of them don't even recycle. I doubt they'd be charitable enough to just say "Oh, let's just let our species die out." If a movement like this actually came to fruition (which I highly doubt), it would only lead to war. And war isn't exactly kind on the planet...especially with the possibility of a nuclear war. I guess that might achieve the purpose, if that itself wipes out all humans on the planet...because the earth would recover in time. But I seriously don't see it even getting CLOSE to that far.

I think it would be a far more realistic idea to pass more laws governing emission standards...make it mandatory to recycle...etc etc. Human extinction will not be voluntary, by any means.
