ok in my FACS I class we are doing our teen pregnancy unit and for those of you that don't use them we are using Baby-Think-It-Overs *they cry, record neglects, abuses, and whatnot) i feel like a stressed 5 year old carrying that thing around all day, I had an army of supporting friends lugging my books around behind me all day to class and some preppy chick stole it and beat it senseless...I now have a mafia of people to beat her down if she does it again...this is my grade after all...so what do you all think? is this fair punishment? because i know it gives you an idea of being a teen mother and all but it really really sux...especially when you really don't plan on doing anybody anytime soon...idk i think it's a good experience and absolute hell at the same time...

I'm moving this to Issues, because I can see it quickly developing as a debate topic.
I think every person should have to have a short experience with those dolls. Just for the reality of it.

I'm not really sure if this is supposed to be about the babies or if it's a good idea to have the preppy girl beaten up.... lol When I was in high school, I had to carry around a doll like that. I didn't think it was so bad.... I think it is a good idea. I don't think that having someone beaten up is a good idea though.... lol

Violence = Bad. There, that issue solved.

Altough an occasional beating is always relieving, there are so many more creative ways to get revenge. (methinks a new thread should be made)

I never had to have one of those baby think it overs in school...they only have two in our high school, and they alternate between the two health teachers each year -- mine didn't have them the year I had health. A lady I took a (university) course with last year has a daughter in high school who had one. We had a WHOLE bunch of reading to do and she said that she was about ready to slam the thing against the wall.

I think they're a great idea. They let you see what a handful babies are and how irritating they can be when you can't just hand them back over to their mother...hehe.

As a rule schools over here don't seem to have schemes like this although my friend's mum is a school health nurse and one of the schools she services recently got one of these dolls and as a test Joanna's mum made her carry it around to check it worked and stuff before she let it loose on the class...it could be turned on for a minimum of 48hrs, needed fed every 2hrs on average and my God that thing was annoying...I like kids but seeing her after a mere couple of days with it made me realise that they're not just ickle cute squishy people...

wow.
we just had eggs.
i think they're a good idea... but they are punishment for people like me, who NEVER want kids... (you hear that, ravein?) but overall, i think the lesson is worth the price, and if it keeps one of us a little safer... then awesome.

we had bags of sugar that we carried around.. my baby sprung a leak and I had ants in my car for a month....
I think it is a good idea for some kids.. they don't take parenthood seriously and have careless sexual encounters... I think this is a good way if scaring them into wearing condoms.
( I hear you Karisma, I am on the no baby kick to... Ill just get a kitten

Unfortunately I think those "babies" will not really deter anyone from having a baby , first of all of because you know it's not real and you know it's a grade/test.
You really have no emotional ties to this "baby".
Take for example when it cries, does it really make you worried it's hungry or need a change of diapers, NO, it's just this loggin device making gosh awful noises that is making you DO something to stop it.
In a way I agree it will make your character with other things that go on in life more apparent. but then again, how you treat any live or inanimate object reflects that anyway.
Will it prevent you from getting a baby, not really, all it did was show how annoying taking care of one is, in the heat of the moment if it happens and you get pregnant, the "robo-baby" will be the last thing on your mind. Look at the effectiveness of condoms, especially the ones that never came on because someone was too busy or in the "heat".
Least, that's what I think.

i agree vves, in fact i am typing extremely slow right now because it is crying and only one hand is unoccupied

it's a good experience n all but really. after this all the kids will go on screwing each othetr as always. and...this preppy chick is like my worst enemy and i won't REALLY beat her up but i will do something so terrible...
