As some of you probably already know, Roy Disney was kicked out of the Disney company. Why? He had reached the official retirement age for the company (despite the fact that this rule is not always followed). This was basically an excuse to kick him out of the company.
I was quite angry to hear about this. I have always regarded Walt Disney as a personal hero. His nephew deserved better treatment than this. I think Michael Eisner (current CEO/president/whatever of the Disney Company) has not done a blessed thing to help the Disney company in a long time. It is time for him to leave (as Roy Disney himself suggested)).
When Eisner first joined the Disney team he helped get the company out of a major slump (with such hits as 'The Little Mermaid'). In recent years I believe that Michael has taken the studio down a losing path and needs to be replaced.
My cry is this: Bring in some fresh, enthusiastic blood that is less interested in politics and more intersted in uniting people through wonderful animation, etc./

Is there an actual debate here or just a cry for justice?

Well I can see two major debates that might stem from my post:
1. Was it inappropriate to boot roy disney out like that
2. Has the DIsney company gone downhill

Well the disney corporation has always been racist and intolerant. Look at Dumbo for example. So IMO it has always been a culmination of everything I hate. As for downhill from that, not sure yet, haven't been focusing on Disney much.

I love the Disney company...at least in the days when Walt was nurturing it. I am (and always will be) a Donald Duck fan.
That is another thing that ticks me off about hte current disney managment: They edit the violence out of the old donald duck cartoons when they show them on TV. I can't stand graphic violence but Donald duck holding a gun is not that big a deal.

Alot of the movies are censored family values propaganda. Alice in Wonderland has forever been tainted by Disney, i will never forgive them for turning such a twisted and surreal universe into dancing playing cards and foam rubber suits of tweedle dee and tweedle dum.

I thought they did the book justice actually.
Either you like Disney stuff or you don't. I like most of the stuff disney put out right up until about 1993/1994.

i cant stand how bad disney have become...i liked their movies when i was younger (as most people do i think) but they have gone so far downhill its unbelievable. the stuff theyre putting out now is generally terrible. its not funny, it has little or no moral message and it has no basis in classics to help introduce kids to decent books instead of cartoon crap...which i'm sorry but its all they were good at...and theyre not even good at that now...either that or its tired rereleases or "part twos" of movies that were just fine on their own damnit.

I half agree with ya, porce...
I agree that Disney ain't that good these days. The animation style is massively improved, granted, an some of the stuff they did wi Pixar is pretty good, but I too am sick of seein the follow-ups. I decided I'd burn down Disney studios if they ever did Jungle Book 2, but as ya prolly guessed I never followed through wi that.
I think some of the new stuff is pretty good, actually. I like the fact they can produce interestin stuff wi'out plagiarisin from books (The Lion King, Toy Story, Finding Nemo - all good movies) and in all three of those the morals are there, but subtly done. I hated the way Disney used to ram their idea of morality down kids' throats until they choked on 'em. Largely why I prefer watchin the old Warner Bros toons - more fun, less bleedin heart morality.
Oh, an I gotta ask: Did anyone who saw the Disney version of Jungle Book actually ever read the book?? I'd be interested to see jus how interested the kids were in indulgin Rudyard Kipling's work...

Where was the morality in Donald Duck chasing his nephews around in a fit of blind anger?
I think the old Disney stuff is wholesome but I don't find it preachy at all.
The only reason Disney is staying afloat now a days is by latching its name onto talented groups of ppl like Pixar.

erm... well, okay, I concede that there's no morality in
that bit! But he always got his come-uppance at the end. Same wi Mickey Mouse an all the others, bags o moral values thrown at ya until ya go "Fer crap's sake, I wanna see Wile E Coyote knacker himself tryin to catch the Road Runner!!"
Wanna know why Walt had that surname? Cos he disney do the drawings!

A lot of ppl always bring up the fact that Walt got famous off the work of others (animators, cartoonists etc.). However, Walt is truly an American (and international ..if you like cartoons) hero. He organized his animation studio, worked his hands to the bone to get funding, promoted his cartoons, etc. etc. In other words Walt helped to create a market for cartoons.
Many people at the time thought he was a quack and it wouldnt work but he proved em' wrong. Good old Walt.
Then again, alot of EXTREMELY talented artists did not get recognition in those early years because they were labeled under the company name "Disney". One of the most talented of these artists is the late Carl Barks. Anyone like Uncle scrooge and Donald duck comic books? Barks was the guy who invented scrooge mc duck and made donald duck comics famous. He is my favorite artist of all time.
http://www.donaldisten.dk/comics/creator.asp?id=cb here is a link to some of his work scanned in. just click the story title..some of em arent in english. Actually, BArks has a big following in Europe. I try and spread the word about his stuff cuz i keep hoping it will get a bigger following again.
I hihgly recommend the old castle's secret story by him. It was one of Scrooge McDuck's first appearances.

I hope someone sees that link and grows to love barks stuff as much as me.
ok im shuttin up now

Aye, yes. Pocahontas... ugh, she never even ... liked John Smith. It was John ROLFE and there was no weird ... love story behind it... I hate how they distort so many classic tales so that it's sexist in most ways and just... ugh.
Especially Cinderella... in the end of the original, the stepsisters' eyes got picked out. :3

They say "mine". Ever seen gulls scrappin over food? Ya can jus tell all that skwawkin is their way of callin dabs on whatever's there...
Oh, an elf an sir max are spot on with what they say. They dun half clean up stuff to make it kiddie friendly. I dun mind me 5 year olds watchin the movies but I'd not read the books to 'em until they were old enough to read 'em themselves.

Disney ruins all great movies by adding sequels. *grabs a sequel and stabs it with a pencil*

I used to like Disney when I was younger, but I don't nearly as much now... They've just gone down the laundry chute. And I definately agree that they've become dependent on other extremely talented companies (such as Pixar, which *does* do amazing work) since they obviously are having popularity problems. I mean, I might wind up seeing "Brother Bear" for the sake of animation since I still think that the art itself is fine, but their plots and characters and humor and... Urg. That's why I enjoy my lovely Hayao Miyazaki stuff much more. <3 And they don't really need a sequel to everything do they?

'Cause I hate to say it, but the original stuff, such as Fantasia (no, not the 2000 one or whatever that was)... THAT was good work. Astoundingly beautiful, if you ask me. Plus, Disney keeps ruining original fairy tales and perfectly good books and it's making me rather upset... ;_; Mhm. Anyways, I think you get my point by now. ^-^; Yeah.

i think the main reason disney has gone down the tubes is that the ppl in charge of it are more interested in politics than cartoon making.
I honestly do....eisner started out ok...but once he had a few hits under his belt (little mermaid, beauty and the beast) he started warping Disney's original vision.
Kicking roy disney out of the company was a contemptible and cowardly act. It will be a cold day in hell when i ever go to see a movie financed by disney again.

All I will say is: "Isn't Disney World just a people trap operated by a mouse?"
Yes, this is kinda spamming but it's is with in the subject. Also:
BOOO! BOO Disney! They should keep up with the times. He should sue them! (Unless there was a legitimate reason he was fired like he couldn't preform his job as well as he used to)

seconding what sammi said...
and agreeing with general opinion...disney is turning into another monopolised corporate horrible company without any real vision like they used to have
i can't think how to word it, i just feel bad that children now won't get the joy of disney like i used to
