i've wondered for a while.. how many formites smoke? do you thnk its ok for a minor (under 18) to smoke?
CommandeerOfSouls
I guess I think it's OK for a minor to smoke, as I don't think it's a great idea for anyone to smoke I don't see it as being far worse for someone younger to do so.
People think it's sad or wrong or something when little kids smoke or something and I think we all need to realize that we were all little kids once and that they're people as well, probably far less innocent than we realize.

(when you say smoke I assume you're talking about cigarettes)
CommieBastard
I chose the last option, not because I'm vehemently anti-smoking (I'm definitely not) but because I would never smoke.

Edit: And to answer your question, no, I don't think it's okay. Tobacco manufacturers have been known to target youth demographics (those legally not allowed to consume their products) in an attempt to addict them and guarantee lifelong customers. A scary number of adult smokers (many of them addicts) started below the legal age. It is harder to make an informed decision at such a young age, and easier to become addicted.

Smokiing is people's personal choice, however I really don't like having to be around people when they do smoke. It's nasty. They can corrupt their own lungs but not mine! dry.gif but you see my parents smoked in the house and shit for many years in my youth. As a result I have a nasty cough and bollocksed lungs. Though that may be partly due to athsma and this nasty coughing disease I had when I was 7...who knows...

Sometimes, like with one of my half brothers, parents give young kids a cigarette to try and put them off because it tastes bad. In the case of my half brother (and I really don't care, he's a right twat and no mistake) when this was tried he actually LIKED the taste and got hooked.

Cigarette and tobacco companies do increasingly aim at the younger generations, which is something quite disturbing. And of course, the longer they smoke the harder it is to quit, and all the things to help stop smoking are more expensive than the cigarettes themselves sometimes.

Who knows, if my parents hadn't smoked, I may have deecent lungs and not be a peasant.

Also, my stepdad just quit smoking and found out he has emphicema (or however it's spelt) laying in the top of his lungs. It could stay like that until he's 90 and not cause a problem, but if he smoked again it could kill him slowly over a few years. Goddam why did he have to quit so fast?! mad.gif Sorry...I don't like him much. dry.gif

Bugger I've gone and rambled..... Each to their own, though you should save yourselves the trouble and inject the cancer now.

By the way, did you know smoking cannabis has WAAAAAAY more harmful stuff in it than normal tobacco......tis true. Loads more tar than ordinary cigarettes. And various other harmful chemicals. Still, your choice guys, just don't do it around me, k? biggrin.gif

Like Baldricks said, smoking is a personal choice so whether or not you do it is up to you, not me. Which isn't to say if I could, I would pick a world of some smoking over a world with absolutely none - I don't like smoking and it disgusts me and I would rather it didn't exist period, but hey, whatcha' gonna do?... If you're going to smoke, smoke where you aren't going to contaminate my lungs too. biggrin.gif

And as for minors such as myself smoking, I would prefer they didn't and I don't necessarily think it's right, but the choice is up to them. These days, however, cigarette companies keep advertising towards a younger public which doesn't help much of anything... Just ditto what Commie said, basically... Yar, me no like smoking... dry.gif
gerbilfromhell
i don't smoke, and i never will. i personally just don't see the point.

but i've got no problem with other people smoking, in front of me or not. it's their choice and it's not like they're going to drop dead in front of me or anything if they smoke that one cigarette.
LoLo
I smoke. I smoke all the time. I need to quit. I chose the top option even though I am not that happy about the fact that I do smoke.

I don't think that people underage should smoke either. Of course that doesn't mean that I didn't wait until I was legal to start. laugh.gif The only reason I say so is studies have shown that the younger you start the harder it is for you to quit. So like Commie said, if they can hook you at age 15 they probably have you for life.

I smoke....I have for several years, about 7 actually. I started when I went to college. I started slow, worked up to a half a pack a day, but I never really passed that point for more than a week or so. Particularly stressful times in my past, I have smoked a pack or more in a day, but those times are few and far between.

I switched to rolling my own, because they're cheaper, and I've discovered that that's a great way to cut down on your smoking. So now I average about 4 cigarettes a day. The bf smokes cloves....he can go a couple months without smoking, but he usually smokes one every day or so.

I really don't like underage smoking. I don't really like the idea of people smoking at all, unless they're completely aware of what they're getting themselves into before they start. I know the health risks I'm taking, and I did before I started smoking. This isn't meant to be an excuse, but I've had a pretty stressful life that smoking helped me to get through. I'm sure I could have found a more healthy way to do it, but I didn't. And besides, I like smoking. But I'm very proud of anyone who quits, and I'm the first person to tell someone they shouldn't smoke. Not that that means much..dry.gif At least I know I'm not as addicted as some people...I don't get freaky if I haven't had a cig in the last day; there have been a lot of times where I'll get caught up in doing something and I won't smoke all day. I know quite a few people who won't live in a non-smoking apartment because they wouldn't be able to smoke whenever they wanted. *rolls eyes* So at least I'm not that bad.

Does this post have a point? I don't think so...I'm a little scatterbrained at the moment....*poof*

i would never smoke. 1) i cant afford it,
2)ive made some promises i intend to keep
3)no offense, but its kind of a dirty habit

2)ive made some promises i intend to keep

I did that, then ended up breaking them. Promises to yourself are so easy to make when you're six or eight. Then harder to keep when you're fourteen. When did you make them?

As for my answer, I don't smoke but I used to. Then I realised it was soaking up my money like a big nicotine sponge so I stopped, cold turkey. It wasn't so bad because I wasn't especially addicted nor had I been smoking for long, maybe around a year. Now I'm roughly smoke free, apart from drum tabacco in the odd joint.

...

I've said too much ph34r.gif
acidteardrop
i didnt make said promises to myself, i made them to, namely, krys and liz. possibly a few other people, but those are the ones that come to mind.

and i made them fairly recently, a little over a month ago.
cheese is funny
i dont smoke. and i never intend on starting. i have been told that i will start in college for stress and to calm me down and blah blah blah. i wont. i dont like the way they smell, people that smoke themselves have told me they dont like how it tastes, so whats to look foward there? and, i smell bad enough as is, i dont need to smell worse from cigs. laugh.gif

I tried it, once. Didn't see the big deal, I tried several brands in a 5 day period. Still didn't see the big deal.

Is underage smoking okay?

Well, if you think legal adult smoking is okay. I suppose it can be.

But, smoking interferes with my personal space. Sort of like being around friends that make out a lot. It's disgusting. Not in my presence please.

Totally a personal view.

This is so sad. I need a cigarette so bad, but I'm visiting my uncle with my mom and she took away my cigs. I would take any kind of abuse for one sweet cigarette.

I have the nickname STAND QUEEN. I stand up and speek out against tobacco and hate the sh*t. It to me needs to be banned. I hate it.
padonae
I'm not against smoking, but I don't do it. In my opinion, smoking is the most expensive way to kill yourself that's out there. I've always thought it a bit stupid, but I'm not against it.
Pikasyuu
Chain smokeage. I don't care for age laws. Kids'll do what they'll do, and I have no stance on it. I smoke, I'm underage, and I'd hurt the person who took mine.

But my lighter hates me. Oh yes.

What about a heroine bender? Or being crushed to death with rare coins? what about having specially trained dogs rip out your throat having to pay for the special training feeding, raising and boarding of said dogs? Have you thought about hiring people to build a pyramid for you filled with booby traps, being locked in it and eventually led to your grisly and untimely demise? I'm betting that's gotta be pretty expensive.
