If I really wanted to I could look this up, but...is there any law of any sort, or anything that would put someone in control of a minor in a sticky situation if the person in control of the minor...oh, fine. I'll make it easier on us all

I'm a minor. If my parent/guardian were to discover I ever engaged in self-injury, is there any sort of legality that would make them seek treatment for me? Or (this one I REALLY wish to know) if a minor is discovered to be suicidal/seems suicidal etc. must their parent/guardian seek treatment under any law or something?

blink.gif I sound really stupid. *blushes*

I don't know if it's illegal but I think most parents would seek treatment anyway, and if they didn't, well, all I'm saying is that if there's a law, it'd be virtually impossible to enforce... but then again, that doesn't really answer your question... sorry smile.gif

Your parent/guardian isn't required to make you go into therapy (unless a court orders it), but they can force you to go to it.

Are you worried about your parents forcing you to go or a court forcing your parents to make you get treatment?

I'm not sure about your parent or guardian but I am pretty sure that if a doctor, teacher, etc were to discover you were harming youself, they legally have a duty to report it. Its called Duty of Care. If they don't, your parent / guardian can sue them.

There is no legal requirment for them to get you treatment, but I hope a parent would at least look into it. I suppose the case could be argued for neglect, but thats stretching things a tad.

But please, if you do need help, there are organizations that offer consuling for free here in the states, just look online.

Take care of yourself <3
