Okay, so my list of least favorite commercials is probably going to be longer...cause they're mostly crap, but there are a few that I love.
My favorite commercial ever:
Six Flags! You can't see how fast he's really dancing in that....but I posted it for the Canadians and Brits as they probably don't have the actual commercial on TV there. I giggle every time I see it on TV, cause he really dances a lot! And even though he's a young guy in an old man mask, it's still adorable.
I can't think of any more that I like right now, but I HATE all feminine hygeine commercials. They're all the same. And there is a tire commercial here where this old woman..about 60-ish, says "It's all about the bling bling, baby!" That isn't cute. It's just annoying. And those "Tobacco is whacko if you're a teen" ads. They're just...so incredibly stupid. Plus, it makes it sound like it's okay to smoke if you're an 8 year old...lol.
Oh, and I HATE HATE HATE those stupid Old Navy ads. Urrrgghh.
That's all I can think of for now. Mostly, I just wanted to share the Six Flags guy. He's so great.

I mostly hate the jingles that accompany some ads... luckily, you don't have them in the States, but GOD I hate the United Furniture Warehouse song...
I love Ikea ads, though. Especially the one with the family feuding in the kitchen... oh, it brings tears to my eyes to think of it. Also, the sex on the kitchen table one... *dies*
Do others outside of Canada get the Ikea ads? Because, if you don't, then you're missing out.

I'm going to generalize a bit, because usually I hate commercials so much that I avoid them by taping my favorite shows specifically so I can fastforward through the commercials. So I might not be good at remembering any specific commercials.
Anyway, the commercials I hate usually fall into the following categories:
1) a housecleaning product - I hate them because they're still so traditional that "mom" is always the one cleaning and/or making the cleaning decisions or ordering the rugrats and negligent father around to do the chores at the very least.
2) car commercials - how many times can a person stand to sit through boring stats on a brand-new car ("APR, some percentage, safety standard yadda yadda, something about the new-technology brakes and something about the powerful engine") *and* watch this supposedly spectacular car zip through out-of-the-way curvy roads that few people in the real world actually ever drive on or the classic "professional driver on a closed course - do not attempt at home."
3) beer commercials - As if it wasn't bad enough to watch the same ol' plot of some guy or group of guys tipping back a few beers with the result of dancing bikinis doing it doggy-style for these average, dopey guys -- now we have to put up with beer commercials that pretend to be "healthy." Several of them boast of being "low-carb" with this stupid Atkins fad now, and there's one commercial in particular that features a womyn going on her daily jog, and when she's finished exercising, she completes her "healthy lifestyle" by chugging a "low-carb" beer or something like that. As if a six-pack is now "part of a daily balanced diet."
4) Basically anything that begs for social commentary/criticism (some people would be surprised at how much racism and sexism commercials/ads can still get away with), which I love to do. So that pretty much means all commercials, since advertisements are notoriously traditionalist and are often the last pieces of society to "change with the times."
Commercials that I like are few and far between. Usually I like the ones that make me laugh. On that note, Comedy Central's commercials are usually pretty tolerable. Most of what they advertise are their own shows anyway. Maybe I'll come up with some specific "good" commercials later. Right now I can't think of any.

Honda's "Cog" ad was omfgubercool.
I like the old Budweiser frogs, and "How refreshing, how, Heineken.", as well as the beer ads with Peter Kay, the pub sex ed is hilarious.
Waaaaaay too many bad ads to even try thinking of a few that stick in my mind. I guess the BBC tv license fear tactics really pissed me off.

My all-time British advert is the Pot Noodle advert.
For Americans and their natural enemies to the north, Pot Noodle is a meal that comes in a big plastic cup. You add boiling water, leave it for a while, and it becomes what seems on the surface to be simply a tasty noodle meal, but in actual fact is the very ambrosia of some unhealthy God.
I can't find it on the net, so I'll write a transcript.
(Man and woman sitting across from each other at a table, eating sandwiches)
Woman: Nice sandwich, dear?
Man: Yes, yes, it's lovely.
Man outside of room, on phone
Man: I do love Kate, it's just those sandwiches...I need something filthy, you know, like a kebab, all hard and...
Friend (interrupting): Gav, ever heard of...Pot Noodle?
Red Light District
Gav surreptitiously enters shop
Gav to woman behind desk: Excuse me...do you do Pot Noodle?
The woman slaps Gav
Subsequent scenes show Gav asking various women of questionable virtue for Pot Noodles and getting slapped
Gav goes up to one last prostitute
Gav: Do you do Pot Noodle?
Prostitute (leans forward, whispers): Round the back in two minutes.
Gav and the prostitute are sitting on a bed eating Pot Noodles, bouncing up and down. They are sweating and groaning with pleasure. Gav tips the carton back and swallows the last of the sauce
Gav: That felt so wrong - and yet it felt so right!

I really like the 'Cradle to Grave' one, for the XBox. I believe that it was banned from being shown in this country because 100 people complained about it. (no really, a whole 100)
It's where the women is giving birth - the baby comes shooting out like a bloody great cork and goes flying through the window. The baby continues to soar and as he is doing so starts to age, going from baby to toddler to child to adolescent to adult to an old man. Then he comes crashing down into his own grave.
The slogan was 'Life's too short. Play more.'
Classic!

The Telus comercials, with the cute little animals. I really love the one with the pigs. I dunno if they only play in Canada.. or maybe just Alberta for that fact.
The Molson ones are usually good for a laugh. *snicker* I remember that one where they guy asked the Canadian fellow in the bar where his pet beaver was, and he was like "right here" and the beaver attacks him.
Oh and that Visa one with the suitcase that travels, I think its super cute aswell.
hmm ones I hate...
United Furniture which was already mentioned.
Oh and that frisk comercial were the guy is making out with the dog, just makes me shudder.

Possibly the most successful commericals are the insanely horrible ones. Like one I saw for peptobismol.
Five people in a conga line...
Heartburn, nauseau, indigestion, upset stomach, diahrhea..YAY PEPTOBISMOL!
They use hand motions to describe the reactions to their symptoms. It is so horrible and beyond ridiculous, well now you all know about it, along with everyone else I told because of its amazing stupidity. It's got to be sucessful.
The Geico commericals "But I've got good news, I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance while switching to Geico" are quite good.

I hate the commercials for pills... but they don't tell you what the pill is for. Like, you just see some old man golfing or playing pool, he smiles into the camera, "BlahBlah-oft helped me get the swing back in my game. *Wink*" Like it's some little secret! I realize most of them are "male enhancement" drugs, but man, just come out and tell me.

There was a Coca-Cola advert I saw but it was banned. It went like:
*Spanish (he just is) boy walks up to a drinks vending machine*
He puts some money in and buys a Pepsi, then puts it on the floor.
He then buys another Pepsi and again puts it on the floor.
He then stands on the two Pepsi cans and presses the Coca-Cola button and walks off, leaving the Pepsi's.

Yeah, always been a fan of Geico. I am really sick of "I'm dying from baldness please save me" "I'm horribly impotent" (did anyone see the SNL spinoff of Viagra? Or, even better, the "Oops I crapped my pants!"?

) Girls Gone Wild commercials, and I second most of moonlightsavingstime's stuff. There was one I liked for some bank commercial or something, these two guys are talking about investment stuff and they go "I'd never do that, that's way too dangerous." Camera pans out and they're climbing up a mountain, or sleeping in sleeping bags at the edge of the mountain or something like that. I remember the days of the Budweiser frogs...I HATE MOST BEER COMMERCIALS. There's this one with Bailey's (they always say drink responsibly at the end) and it's the one with all the pauses and sense. Beer is spilled by girl - pause - sense of loss. Beer is wiped up by boy - pause - sense of duty. The worst one being where there's a shot at the girl's large amount of cleavage, and then it shoots to the guy looking at her cleavage, and then he laughs at something she said and then it's "sense of humor". I start screaming now when that one comes on...--;

It was a beer commercial or a coke commercial or something, but it featured these couple on a couch. The chick was sleeping on the guy's extended arm so he couldn't bend it, and in the hand of this arm was the beverage in question. Then a message pops up that says " For extreme cases only" or something along those lines, and he whipsers, "I love you", and she smiles and moves her head, letting him move his arm and sip his drink.
God, I almost threw the remote at the screen, I was really mad. I thought it was terrible advertising, and vowed never to buy the drink. Unfortunately I can't even remember what it was...

Dear Mr. Advertiser,
Please stop showing footage of children on the toilet (viz. Kandoo), as we do not need to see it. We were all children once, and we all defecate, so let us use our imaginations. Furthermore, if you use a crapping child to promote a not-toilet paper product, you are scum.
However, would you please show more of that charming Thierry Henri, whom my wife and I think is a delightful young chap. Just not on the toilet.

It's not only daytime TV. It comes on at night too. How could I forget? I abhor those, too. Watching that one Mr. SB film, when they said "Do you know how much that brain is worth?!" I began laughing so hard and had to watch the animation several times over to get all of it. Thanks again Mata.

... car credit adverts...
..... and those bloody insurance ads on UK tv ... Oh boy ... About a million years back I had access to satellite TV, and would have to watch this 'no-nonsense' type 'man-on-the-street' git ranting in short sentences about how Bob, Sheila and some other cretin saved POUNDS on car insurance, with these idiots in the studio standing at the front of their cars, quoting how much they had 'saved'
This flaming ad, along with about 6 very-close-copies were rammed down the viewers throat at about 45ads/hour ... It actually put me off Sky TV, especially seeing as the only really worthwile programs were Star Trek and The Simpsons ...
So I stopped watching satellite, and when it went digital and becoming more difficult to pirate, I gave up completely and would dilude myself into smugness by thinking I'd never have to watch those shite adverts again ...
AND THEN ... about 2 months back, the SAME sodding AD appeared on Spanish TV (sort of where I live) ... with the added insult of being dubbed into Spanish ... So now its Juan, Carmen and flaming Carlos who get to save EUROS on their car insurance, whilst still looking as British as Paul Weller sat on a Union Jack vespa ...

Those bloody stupid political ad's where by one person simply accuses the other person of doing things.

Apr 17 2004, 02:07 PM
Ok Oobunnie made me think of a Bush add that drives me nuts, and once I type that I'll go to the three I have in my head for good commercials (they're not political.)
Bush has this commercial that looks like an old time movie with cars going around and accuses John Kerry of doing what he can to raise gas prices. Under Bush our prices on gas are higher than they have ever been and will more than likely go higher. Was it me or wasn't the war on Iraq supposed to bring down gas prices?
Now for the good ones.
There's this pepsi commercial where you see this little boy that looks like he could be Jimi Hendrix standing in front of a guitar shop buying a pepsi out of a vending machine. You hear Jimi Hendrix music playing in the background and then you see him look across the street and see a coke machine by an accordian shop and hear Jimi Hendrix music being played on an accordian. Just think of what would have happened if he had had that coke. lol.
I've noticed that radio adds are getting way cool and there are two that I really like that are out right now.
The first one is a spin off on the six flags commercial Candice posted about to begin this thread. You hear this teenage boy talking about how he saw this old man at a bus stop near a convience store and just thought that he was so old, then this six flags bus pulls up and the old guy just starts dancing around so he couldn't be that old. They go to six flags and ride the rollercoasters that turn this way and that way and flip and go really fast. They turn to the old man to ask him how he liked the ride and he just sat there not responding with a really big grin on his face. Then the kid says, "Now that I think of it, I've never seen that old man at the bus stop again."
Sick but great if you ask me. lol
Now this one hits close to home and I absolutely love it. It's for an ATT calling plan and goes something like this: Bill woke up one morning and decided that he was going to move to the beach, so he called up his friend in Fresno and his friend in LA to tell them the good news. Bill continues to call all of his friends in California throughout the day to tell them of his great plan. The next day bright and early Bills friends are gathered along the Eastern border of California and they all begin to push. With a crack California floats away and becomes an island. Then they talk about free long distance to anyone in California and how it will only cost 5 cents a minute to talk to anyone on the main land. It was hard becoming an island but at least we have these great phone rates.
That one makes me laugh so hard. I've had so many people tell me the states going to fall off into the ocean.

Was that Joel Vietche or am I thinkinbg of someone else? I haven't seen it but it sounds like the sort of thing he does, he also did the brilliant 'Crusha' advert.

Yep Joel Vietche on
Rathergood.com The original on his site is better 'cos we dont get Quiznos, but I remember the ad from when I dashed throught the States -->"We love you Moooooooooon..." hilarious AND disturbing, great mix.
I've just seen the Citreon ad too where the car goes all Transformers and boogies away (I think Snugglebum mentioned it before)
And oo oo oo! Eddie Izzard's recycling ad is soooooooooo cool
