I can! WeeJ and I were talking and we're both curious as to how many people can use chopsticks.
WeeJ
I'm eating cold leftover chinese from last night. With ketchup biggrin.gif

I find it easer to hold the chopsticks towards the bottom. My sister says otherwise.
I have a tendancy to pick up a fork towards the very end of the meal, but I like to give it a go. Anyone else other than me and vic?
Pab
so far 100% of people asked CAN use chopsticks ... The same poll currently reflects that 100% of people sked are Pab. Go pab!

edit: the statistics have changed already, before I got a chance to post! (dammit)

yes, I can use chopsticks, mighty fine way of eating too ... Just a bit pointless with a t-bone steak
WeeJ
Rice is the big test. You kind of have to keep the sticks close together and scoop it onto the end.
Daedalus
I've never tried very recently, but when I did (yeeeaaaaars ago...) I was hopeless... So no.
CommieBastard
I can't, I'm cackhanded. I just use a fork.
Sarah the Spider
I don't do it very much anymore, but I ate with chopsticks all the time when I was living in Japan. It's easy to learn when you're around it all the time.

I still have my shiny neon pink Sailor Moon ones. laugh.gif
Snugglebum the Destroyer
I can and do frequently.

I think it's a fabtabulous way to eat and everyone should do it at least once a day.
Usurper MrTeapot
I used to eat rice with it one grain at a time, but that was slow. So now I just mix them up with some sauce and scoop.

But now I can use them, with difficulty but I can.
Sir Maxerpopple
I use a spoon for rice, but chopsticks for chopstick elligible food. I'ts just not chinese food without chopsticks.
jicama
chopsticks are easy! i used them pretty well my first try. *is proud* cool.gif

i like to use them to eat spagetti. fun blending of cultures and such.
Phyllis
I can. From 1st through 8th grade, we had a party at my school every year celebrating Chinese New Year's. I'm not quite sure why we did that, but we ate Chinese food for lunch, with chopsticks...and were given chopstick lessons (as in, how to hold them properly and how to eat rice with them and such).

Only, the Chinese place here doesn't hand out chopsticks with takeout (or even when you sit in the restaurant and eat). They give you plastic forks and spoons and such (well, real silverware for when you sit in the restaurant, but...you get the idea). This makes me sad. I like to use chopsticks. sad.gif It's been a long time since I have, though. I might not be as good anymore...hrm.
Oni Usagi
I can, but I don't use them often so every time I do I have to relearn a little.
DoRmAnt
i indeed use chopsticks...i am quite the skilled chopstick user. i take chinese and my instructor has us over for dinner once a month and all they have is chopsticks cool.gif

When it comes to noodles... I can't even eat them using a fork without making a mess. So chopsticks are a no-no.
antagony
After living in Asia for fourteen years, not knowing how would be pretty embarrassing...

So yeah, I can. I actually think that a lot of food tastes better when eaten with chopsticks, for some reason. Plus eating noodles with a fork would just be weird.
Silver Star Angel of Da Towers
I can use them, but I never really had the opportunity.
EvilSpork
Yeah, pretty easy in my opinion...
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
I've never eaten anything that suggests the use of chopsticks and for this reason I have no clue if I can or not...I doubt I could.
WeeJ
One thinkg I've always wondered, how are you supposed to eat large objects? Hold them and take a bite?

I can't, I'm cackhanded. I just use a fork.

Ha! Ha! my mum always uses that expression to describe me - mostly cos I'm left handed and often look awkward doing stuff - I can manage chop-sticks though!

Prefer a fork, or even a spoon, cos I can eat more and faster! tongue.gif
Cath Sparrow
I can badly my fav experience was trying to eat the won tons out of won ton soup with them. I managed a mini tidal wave and to add to the fun I was sat at a table full of strangers in a restaurant. tongue.gif

And now for a useless information break!

The lower you hold your chopstick the lower your class! tongue.gif

How to eat rice, noodles and large objects with chop stick have the food in a bowl bring the bowl up close and shovel! It's the right way to do it! biggrin.gif

I'm cackhanded to!!

the trick is to aim
mooooooooooopo
lol...i can get the end of the chopsticks in the right place to pick stuff up but when i try to grab it one stick flys past the other and flicks the food off in some random direction *hangs head in shame*

I dont tend to eat chopstick type food anyways so nobodys in danger of losing an eye laugh.gif
Monkey
No sad.gif I can never seem to get the hang of it at all. I do try but its just a bit tricky and I think ahh whatever I'll use a good old fork! Am I really missing out or just look excluded?
chester
I can. I used to eat everything with chopsticks. Even things that really sjhouldnt be eaten with chopsticks... like apples or pretzels... anyway, my vote was 'yes'. Ive been using chopsticks since i was a little girl.
Artemisia
I can, but my fingers hurt later. I must clench them wrong.

For those of you who can't, there is an invention to help you! The tweezer-chopstick-holder-thing! It is a little piece of black rubber with two holes in which you insert the chopsticks, then use them like tweezers! What a way to impress your Asian friends at a dinner party! biggrin.gif
the lil' pie fairy
^cool beans laugh.gif

i can, and i'm damn proud. i haven't got to the rice part yet, but it doesn't matter, i'll sort it someday. i love chopsticks so much smile.gif
