does anyone find it odd that a sport devoted to making people fit and slim is sponsered by fat inducing companies.
coca cola, mcdonalds and carlsberg.
Maybe it's just me that finds that odd.

The only reason for that is because those companies are massive and can afford to fund things, which in turn gets them advertised. It's a win-win for both parties. Companies like Vodafone also sponsor stuff because it's beneficial. But you're right, it is kind of ironic.

Marmalade, don't fool yourself into thinking that the sports devoted to make you slim actually give a damn whether you're healthy or not. It's all about business, donchaknow? Basically (and I'm not speaking for all businesses, and I'm not pretending to have any credibility whatsoever) when you make a business, you choose one that will make you the most money, no? What's big these days? Being super slim and uber toned. You don't need good business sense to go into the sports industry. Now, say you're some fat cat in the sports industry, and McDonalds comes to your door and says, "We'd like to be a sponsor, we have LOTS of money, look at us go!" then you don't need particular business sense to sign them a contract either. In fact, you and McDonalds have a lot in common, in that niether of you cares about the consumer, so you make good business buddies. Business buddies with lots of money and lots of obese customers complaining that their diet doesn't work.

I'm more of the opinion that there is a larger percentage of the world that treats football as a spectator sport. I've watched some of the england games and I certainly have no intention to slap on some football boots and kick a ball around.

The thing is without Beer, Fast-Food and Koka-Kola (Clash reference), it wouldn't be football. The sponsers don't have to have anything to do with the event. It would have made sense for the Anti-Facist party to sponser the Berlin Olympics.
