So, I was thinking. There should be a Matameet in Derby at some point. Why, you ask, would anyone want to come to Derby? (moop said "cause we've got lions!" but I am not going to lie to you nice people -- we don't)

Well, we had Nottingham meets before, and they went rather well. They were cheap, cause people had floor for others to sleep on. moop and I have a rather large house, so we could do a similar thing there. And and and if you book early enough, train fares to Derby are insanely cheap (especially from London...if you have a railcard a single can cost 3.95 depending on the time of day you're traveling).

But most of all -- I am going stir crazy already. I won't be allowed to work until probably May at the earliest. So I know all of you want to come and see me sometime, don't you? (maybe in April?) Hmm, what's the closest emoticon to puppy dog eyes? wacko.gif ...that'll do. biggrin.gif
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
I'll come!! I don't know when my exams will be yet but probably not until May so April should be good, also it will be Easter hols around the beginning of April for people influenced by school holidays etc... unless that is eating into your honeymoon time? Maybe you should go on honeymoon after Easter because it'll be cheaper not in school hols!

Summary: YAY!

We're going on Easter weekend, which means we're booking rather soon. Mostly because Ste gets that Monday off from work so he won't have to use too many vacation days. So mid to late April would obviously be better...or maybe early to mid March (we're getting married the last week of March, though, so that's out)
Daria
I will come, I will come! As long as you make me thanksgiving food. For every meal.

I will bring you housewarming-Jam and lemoncurd. And you shall call it Jam (the jam, not the lemoncurd as that is lemoncurd). And I will bring you a jelly, just to make it ok.

Heh, look what you have let yourself in for.
Wytukaze
You still owe me those cookies, so I'm coming. Don't even think about locking the doors, I can climb! With my hands and my feets! TREMBLE AS I SCALE THINGS.
Phyllis
Yay! You are all three officially cool kids. biggrin.gif

Daria - I will make you Thanksgiving food, but you will have to act fast if you want stuffing. moops are stuffing fiends! (I made some tonight and he started stealing it before I'd even cooked it blink.gif ) I have some pumpkin in the freezer, so maybe I can find a pumpkin bread recipe that will actually be yummy this time...

Esteban - you will not have to scale anything unless I get bored! And I will make you cookies, even though I don't remember why I owe you any!
Ashbless
I'm not cool enough to come all the way to England but I can provide pumpkin recipe. tongue.gif

Spicy Pumpkin Muffins or Loaf

2 eggs
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup veg. oil
1 cup canned pumpkin ( I find real mashed worked just fine )
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (can omit if you like)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup raisins (can omit if you don't like them or substitute chocolate chips mmmm chocolate)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts or again feel free to leave 'em out)

for the Muffins: bake at 375 degrees fahrenheit for 18-20 minutes
for the Loaf: bake at 325 degrees for 70 minutes in a 9x5 pan.
buttering the pan makes it easier to remove the baking post oven.

Sorry the baking instructions are in imperial measurements but that's how baking is measured in Canada. Kisah was very helpful in translating last time. Mayhap PM the lovely Mrs. Jonman again?
Cath Sparrow
I'm already cool I've already been. tongue.gif
I'll let you know when I get back but seeing as I can park my car in your drive I'm not seeing to much of problem.
Faerieryn
Sounding cool. Matt and I will definitely be up for it so long as we have somewhere to stay. My birthday is the 11th of March so that weekend is either non stop party or completely out depending on what people want to do but other than that I'm cool
Phyllis
Yay! More cool kids! biggrin.gif

Ashbless - Oho, thank you for the recipe! I brought my measuring cups over, so no need to convert anything.

Cath - Yep, you're already a cool kid...and this time you'll be even cooler because you know where to turn off of the main road tongue.gif

Ryn - There's plenty of room, so you'll have somewhere to stay.
Moosh
I could possibly maybe come. Not committing though. Derby is really near to me, so it's easy to get to, so it's definitely a possibility.
Cath Sparrow
I have a surgestion for an activity for the weekend! biggrin.gif
Kidnapping CM if he decides not to come. We have a get away car and I sure moop could supply gaffa tape for restaints. hehe tongue.gif

A meet outside of London, that costs less than a travelcard to get to? Sounds good to me. What's in Derby- any nice foody places/ pubs?
Forever Unknown
If you go to Derby you most certainly eat at the Vines pub. Cheap as almighty, huge and lovely meals, nice setting.

Mind you, that's only if you book far enough in advance. If you leave it too long, it goes up quite a bit. And on that route ("that" route being St Pancras to Derby) I've found that 2 singles are almost always cheaper.

As far as pubs...never been to the Vines, but judging by the map it's fairly close to where we live. moop and I seem to always end up at Higgs whenever we go out to eat, so we should really explore other options! moop has been to the Brunswick with worky people and I think he said that it's good, but I don't know how expensive it is. We shall investigate further!

Anyone have any preferences for specific dates at all? And CM, do you have a preference about being surprised when we kidnap you, or do you want to see us so there can be a dramatic chase scene? tongue.gif

As long as I know roughly when you're gonna do it, you can suprise me all you want. Just so long as I have time to grab a rucksack with stuff in.
Pixelgoth
Hi all. What about w/e 14-15th April. It's my 31st birthday and I'm looking for something interesting to do. Could go out on the Saturday and party until wee hours into my birthday!

I used to spend most w/e in Derby as my ex boyfriend went to Uni there. It always seemed to be raining! sad.gif

Anyway, I'm flexible really. Whatever weekend is good. We seem to be having a theme of Spring Northern Breaks biggrin.gif
Phyllis
The 14th-15th would probably work for us. It is my birthday on the 10th, but we will be riding on a train back from Scotland much of that day and probably won't do anything for it. So we could have a joint birthday thingy thing that weekend! biggrin.gif

PS: welcome back Pixie! smile.gif
Moosh
My birthday's the 16th so that weekend will either be great or I'll have already been roped into something. Don't /think/ I have anything on though.
Pixelgoth
*waves at Candice* smile.gif

Ooo I can feel a date decision coming on.

*subliminal message* choose the 14th/15th April weekend people *subliminal message*

I think I might even treat myself to a nice hotel. Oooo posh!

Yup, tons of it! And it's even carpeted now! (when Cath saw it, it was chipboard...which would be both dusty and uncomfortable).

Pft. Lame, CM. Very lame. Anyone else have any particular objections to the 14th/15th at all?
Cath Sparrow
I think it's all Lies! I think he's just trying to avoid the kidnapping! tongue.gif
Faerieryn
Have we booked our floor boards?
Phyllis
QUOTE (Faerieryn @ Jan 19 2007, 08:37 PM) *
Have we booked our floor boards?

Yep!

Just to clarify...there are 3 large-ish carpeted rooms with plenty of floor (well, 4 if you count our bedroom, but I snore). No one who will be requiring floorboards particularly has to worry about us running out of room...unless this meet ends up being astronomically bigger than the others, which I don't particularly anticipate tongue.gif I'll have to clear space in the snoo room (kind of like a spare room, but one keeps a snoo in it), but I need to organize that stuff anyway. There are also 3 toilets, and there should be at least one shower by the time of the meet.

snoo has claimed the sofa, though. We have 2 single airbeds...I think. You will have to compete for my affection to get one of those tongue.gif Or, you know, bring your own.
Cath Sparrow
Can I book a single air bed pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease Cand?

Okay biggrin.gif (argh, logged into moop's account...tis cand anyway)

There's also a shorter sofa...really short. Hmm, who is really short?
froggle-rock
Erins are short.
Pixelgoth
So are we doing it that weekend??? 14th/15th April?

I need to know as obviously will want to spend some of 15th with me bloke. Also if he's not coming can I nab some floor space from someone. Can bring my own double AND single inflatable bed so people can borrow them off me too. If Ed is coming then we'll be stopping in a hotel together more than likely smile.gif
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
I'm being Cands proxy.
As far as she is concerned 14th/15th is good. Unless anyone else has any major issues with it then it will be that weekend.
Phyllis
Turns out we might have an issue with doing it the 14th/15th.

It's snoo and moop's gran's 80th on the 11th. She'll probably be having a party, and presumably it won't be during the week. Will let you all know when we know for sure whether it's going to be that weekend.
Smiler
I'll let my ladyfriend deal with the plans as she's goot at that but YAY! Bring on the DerbyMeet.

April dates are fine by us

Yup, will prod moop into ringing his gran (or parents) this weekend sometime.

Edit: CONSARNIT WILL I NEVER LEARN!?! The answer is, apparently, no, I will never learn. This is cand. dry.gif
Phyllis
Okay, false alarm. The 14th/15th is still fine with us. The snoo/moop gran thing probably won't be until later in April. smile.gif
Daria
Cand, this is going to turn out to be one hell of a meet. ONE HELL OF A MEAT, DO YOU HEAR[interrobang]

Ah, well seeing as I only just read this I may not be able to make that weekend now as my bloke and I are planning a trip to Glasgow...

*goes off to check with bloke what plans are*
Cath Sparrow
I was chatting to Tara last night so 'BUMPING' this for him.
Tarantio
Ooh, awesome, thanks Cath. I've remembered, since my drunken haze lightened slightly, that I'm at CUBE the weekend of the 14th/15th, though, so I can't make that date. Don't move it on my behest, though, April might be a bad time for me in general anyway. I'll just plan to attend the next meet further in advance. So is everyone taking a trip to Scotland this year or something? I'm guessing Moop and Cand are doing a scotland honeymoon or somesuch, and it sounds like Pixie is visiting the frozen north too...?
Phyllis

Yep! Basically it's the furthest away we can get without leaving the country. The week after the wedding we have to mail off both of our passports to get my shiny new visa that allows me to work. Can't leave the country after we're married until I have the new visa, since my current one is for a fiancee and I obviously won't be that anymore.

Anyway! I was thinking on this....what does everyone think about the weekend after that one? The 21st/22nd. I was just thinking about how several people seem to not be able to make the 15th (unless they are kidnapped...coughcoughCMcoughcough)...and either one works fine for us since it's doubtful that I'll have my visa back by then. Thoughts?
Daria
As long as it is a weekend, I am more than likely able to come! And it may even be better as it is my mum's birthday on the 17th of April (I think...) so I may be doing something that weekend.
froggle-rock
No qualms, with the 21st & 22nd, or the week before.
Cath Sparrow
No money so no plans so which ever weekends fine with me. biggrin.gif
Mata
Okay, now I have a job 'n' stuff I may be able to afford this. Put me down for coming. The only isue may arise if my job decides to insist on weekend work (which is entirely possible) but I should be able to do it. Put me down for a lump of floor please! If Sam's single airbed hasn't been bagsied yet, then can I also dib that too? smile.gif
