Does the Park End Club still exist? Not that I ever went there, it is just that I have childhood memories of hearing adverts on Fox FM (now part of Heart) proclaiming, "Ladies Night!!! At the Park End Club!!"
Hobbes
And... *cough*... I'm thinking about attending as, all being well, I should be visiting an old friend in Benson on the 22nd. So a weekend back in my old 'Shire would be nice. And Mata HAS been telling me for several years to attend one of these meets, so I probably should, being a meet-virgin an' all.
Mata
YES! COME! We've been friends for something like nine years, it's about time you came along!

Offline I'm usually called: Sam (but Pixie also works!)

Accommodation has been arranged?: Yup I have space for my inflatable bed I assume smile.gif
Can offer accommodation to others?: Not my home, not my place smile.gif
Cath Sparrow
Oooo! Yeh Hobbes comecome! More definatly the merrier!
Hobbes
Well... I better fill in one of these in the hope I'll attend :]

Offline I'm usually called: Hobbes, or Christopher
Number of people coming so far: 5 (as Sam took me as #4)
I'll be arriving: At some point that morning, as I might well have to wander nostalgically around Oxford town centre.
I'll be leaving: At some point that evening?
I'm up for meeting during the afternoon: Yes
18 or over?: I can just about remember being 18.
I'm up for going for an evening meal somewhere: Certainly!
I'm up for going to a pub in the evening: Sure thing!
I'm up for going to a club in the evening: Not reeeeally my kinda scene, but I try to be easy-going (which might be somewhat oxymoronic)
Staying the night?: Yes.
Accommodation has been arranged?: Yes... I'm hopefully visiting others elsewhere in the 'Shire.
Can offer accommodation to others?: Nopes, sorry.

Mata, any parking tips? My only experience putting a car somewhere in Oxford was many, many years ago when shopping with my parents, so it would have been one of the town centre multi-storeys.

Yay! biggrin.gif

Parking - Probably one of the park & ride places outside of town is going to be the best bet.
Mata
Here's a map from the train station (A), to the easiest meeting location (B - The Carfax Tower) , then on to the pub where we'll probably try for lunch (C - The Three Goats Heads, one of those cheapy pubs that brews its own beer, the name of the chain escapes me right now):

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sour...e=UTF8&z=17

If you're driving from the east, then Thornhill park & ride is going to be your best bet for parking. The 400 bus is very frequent and reliable. The park & ride is right by the big clump of letters on this map:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=thornhill%...l=en&tab=wl

After 4pm on saturdays the parking around my house becomes unrestricted, but it's double yellow lines before then.

If you're coming by coach from London then you can pick up either the Oxford Tube or the Oxford Express from Victoria station. Both get you to central Oxford in about 90 minutes and cost around 16 for an overnight return (adult, no discounts, it's less for students I think).
Mata
Also, two people from work and likely at least one gothy friend from my Winchester days (possibly two) will be along.

I feel very ashamed... having once lived in Oxfordshire, and being a regular visitor to Oxford town centre, I just discovered (via Google StreetView), that I know very little of Oxford apart from the the main shopping centres and retail street. Turn off down a side street and suddenly I know nothing.

I also had a bit of a turn when I thought that Borders was no longer in Oxford, but fortunately my memory had placed it ever so slightly closer to Waterstones that it actually is. I feel better now.
Mata
One additional bit of info - both the Oxford Tube and Oxford Express coaches from London Victoria run 24 hours a day, so you can get back to London at any point. It picks up centrally in Oxford and from just around the corner from my house.
Mata
So this is definitely all-clear next weekend. The numbers are reasonably low-ish so it might end up with a small party back at mine.

Drivers bringing bedding and suchlike, probably your best bet would be to drop things off at my house first then head to the park and ride. PM me for my address.

Once you're at the park and ride, get the 400 bus into town. Ask to be told when you're at the Carfax tower (otherwise known as 'the main stop for central Oxford')- it'll look a lot like this when you get off http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=carfax+tow...,248.17,,0,3.56 The tower is the building with the clock on it... That's a tower. With a sign on the side saying 'Carfax Tower'.

I know buses are unfamiliar things to you drivers, but they are handy when you want to be able to drink!

As I said before, parking around my house is double-yellow lines until 4pm on Saturdays, for some unknown reason, and they are pretty hot on it. After that it's all-clear for the rest of the weekend, so if you want to go and pick up your car during the afternoon and take it to my house then you can do that. There is a centre of town car park near to the Carfax Tower, but I suspect that they charge approximately 50% the cost of the earth for a couple of hours parking, but if a few of you want to share a car to get to and from the park and ride then that would be a way to do it.

Now that my house is -1, I can probably offer floor space to more people as long as they don't mind the rather chilly kitchen. If it's too bad then there would also be floor space in my room probably... But that might be a bit odd.

I do have a single-person inflatable mattress that someone is welcome to use.

... And that's about as much information I can think of.

In summary - drivers with overnight things - drop your stuff off at my house then head out to the park and ride.
Lurker in the Park
ph34r.gif I'm going to be getting the Oxford Tube back at some ungodly hour of the night if anyone fancies doing an en masse bus trip. ph34r.gif
Hobbes
I am not sure whether i am going to be coming to the Shire on the Friday night or the Saturday morning as yet. But depending what happens, I might well get the train into Oxford from Didcot, and thus head back on the train from Oxford depending what time it is. I'm considering coming down the evening before just so I have more time the following day (i.e. morning) to wander around going, "That never used to be there!" and "Where's THAT gone?"
Witless
Offline I'm usually called: Dave, Bigdave etc. I am also bringing someone named Bo.
Number of people coming so far: 7
I'll be arriving: Around 1
I'll be leaving: At some point in the late evening 24 hour bus to london, hurrah.
I'm up for meeting during the afternoon: Yes
18 or over?: Yes, indeed.
I'm up for going for an evening meal somewhere: Hurrah! Food! (That's a yes)
I'm up for going to a pub in the evening: Hurrah! Alcohol! (yes again)
I'm up for going to a club in the evening: Not so much, need to get home.
Staying the night?: Nope
Accommodation has been arranged?: Yes, back in London in my very own bed.
Can offer accommodation to others?: Not really, sorry!
Mata
So, with the four-ish people I've got coming along from work and old friends, this makes 11. Hurrah!

Anyone who needs my number should drop me a PM. It'll make things easier with the co-ordination.

If you're running late, The Three Goats Heads (the lunchtime destination) is along the road past the main shops, such as Boots and HMV, and down a left-hand turn into St Michael's Street. It's very easy to get to and only takes a couple of minutes to walk.

Dave - you'll be getting off the coach at around the same stop as the people who use the park & ride: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=carfax+tow...,248.17,,0,3.56

Being that this is the wrong side of pay day by seven days, and that I'm having to pay 7.20 everyday to get to Maidstone for jury service, funds are against me. Things could be looking up on the money front though, I'll keep you posted.
Hobbes
Eeeek... I am SO not the kind of person to throw himself into a group of people he's never met before! blush.gif
Mata
Technically I think we met about eight years ago, it's just that this will be the first physical meeting, if that makes you feel any better smile.gif

And come on SPS, check down the back of the sofa!
Cath Sparrow
Hobbes I'm afraid I have to warn you we have this awful tendancy to make people feel very welcome at our meet's. It's a terrible thing I know and I'm very sorry that we'll have to do the same to you. I hope you can forgive us? tongue.gif

Seriously this is the reason I love the people on this forum ever since I first went to a meet I was made to feel like part of the group (even to the point Mata was telling Spacehappy and me off on the 2nd day I'd met him in person. tongue.gif ). It's never matter where the person has come from or even how long they've been a apart of the forum they are part of the group. Plus you get to go away feeling well hugged. biggrin.gif

And yes Spuss check that sofa! (even though you did explain last night about you money tongue.gif )
Tarantio
I shouldn't have got my hopes up for coming to this one, reading this thread is making me nostalgic sad.gif

And Hobbes, don't worry yourself, I remember my first meet down in Winchester; I was pretty nervous about meeting folk in person for the first time as well, but the matazonians really are a very welcoming group, even to obscure americans who aren't really very well known and do their best not to talk to people at the meet they turn up for coughglasgowmeetcough...

You'll have a whale of a time. Which is an odd expression when I come to think about it. Are whales naturally happy creatures?
Daria
Whales always reminds me of that pbf strip

I wish I was coming. I've been perving on your threads, even though I know I can't afford to come, and it's making me sadfaced.
Pat, someone else will have to poke you with sticks. I'm sorry. I know I should be there for you, but I just can't sometimes. (yarrr)

Have a lovely time, everyone. *soppy group hugs*

Yeah, I think you might have only had one, possibly two, animations online at the time. Seems like an awful long time ago.

I'll try and be brave :}
Sir Psycho Sexy
Nope, checked the sofa, there wasn't the 40 I'd need for train fare...
Mata
Then sell the sofa!

Y'see, all that it takes is a bit of creative problem solving.
Tarantio
Better yet, ride it to Oxford. Then you get to both be there and relax in the comfort of your very own sofa at the same time smile.gif
Sir Psycho Sexy
Would also give me something to sleep on.
Mata
Your sofa and my sofa could exchange addresses and become pen pals. They could send exciting sofa news to each other after your sofa goes back home.
Tarantio
Alright, Mata, now you're just being silly.

/Will stop cluttering up the thread now
Sir Psycho Sexy
Mata, I think your sofa already asked my sofa to be it's friend on farcebook.
Hobbes
<cringe>Sofa so good</cringe>

*knocks the 3 of your heads together*

tongue.gif

Ooo! Usefull info I was checking out the Park and Ride because I really would rather not have to go an move my car again on the Saturday if avoidable and you can have upto 72 hours free parking there.
Pixelgoth
*joins in with heading knocking together stuff*

So, I'm not very well. I've had numerous tests, etc. and they still don'tknow what's wrong with me. I've had a stomach bug, sore throat, aches and pains, bruises like spots on my shins, it's all good fun!! dry.gif

Anyway as it stands I'd still really like to come along tomorrow but it does depend how I feel in the morning. What time are other drivers getting to Mata's as I'd like to convoy with at least one other person to the park and ride so I'm not wandering around Oxford myself aimlessly not knowing where the heck I'm supposed to be....it's happened before people dry.gif

So, I'll be checking this thread throughout the day so do let me know smile.gif

The bus runs from around the corner from my house, so it would be easy to get back to on Sunday.

I plan on heading to town on Saturday at around 12:20, so if you want to drop things at my house you'll have to make sure you do it before then.

When do the drivers think they'll be arriving?
Mata
Don't worry Sam, it's pretty hard to get lost - the Thornhill park & ride is on the road to/from London. I live just around the corner from that road. The Carfax Tower is on the first major corner that the road takes when it gets to Oxford since leaving London. Just ask the 400 bus driver to shout out for central Oxford. When you get off, look for the tower with a clock on the side (there are a couple of figures that bash bells every quarter of an hour too). If all else fails, you have my mobile number and the centre of town is pretty small!

Probably the trickiest bit is right by my house - my road curves around parallel with the Headington Hill/London Road but doesn't quite meet with it. You have to turn off and double back onto my road. Have a look on the map and you'll see what I mean.
Hobbes
Well, it's 6:40 on Friday evening, and I about to head to my old Shire for the weekend. I look forward to meeting those of you that can make it on Saturday. Eek!
Cath Sparrow
Looking at the bus route and my route I decided I'd stop at the park and ride first and haul my stuff down seeing as the bus stops near yours Mata and I wont have that much to carry. I'm hopeing to get there about 11.30ish. I'll give your a ring on route.
Mata
Good plan. See you then! I really am just around the corner from the bus stop, so give me a call if you'd like a hand carrying anything and I'll meet you there.
Sir Psycho Sexy
Buggerations, I really want to be going now...
Cath Sparrow
*sends thoughts of must go to Oxford today*

ph34r.gif I'm heading in to London now, got to do a bit of shopping/organisation and then heading up there. Should be there by about 11:30/12ish ph34r.gif

I had an awesome time meeting you guys and gals! Thanks for contributing to my fab weekend smile.gif

Last weekend. biggrin.gif

We had a great time there's some pics if you look in the other thread. biggrin.gif

You have to scan up a bit as they were trying to meet up this weekend in London because Pixie didn't make it to Oxford as she was unwell. sad.gif
