I thought it might be a good idea to start this topic sooner, rather than later, knowing how long it takes us to plan anything around here. wink.gif

So, in April, I will officially be old enough to get my own stick to shake at younger people. Thirty. I'd like to organise a meet sometime around then. Or March would work, too. Whenever is good for most people. The weekend nearest my birthday won't do, as it has the nerve to be Easter that weekend. Harrumph.

I was thinking London...probably just lurking in a pub as the weather around my birthday is generally unpredictable.

Anyway, thoughts? Yes/no/maybe? Previous engagements that rule out certain weekends? The moopish one and I can't do the last weekend in March, as our anniversary is on the 30th, but other than that I don't think we have anything planned.
BigMistake
Well I'm game. It would be totally awesome if it could be in April. As for suggestions: I wouldn't mind any weekend, 2-5 and 16-20. Or April 29th - May 3rd.
LoLo
I'm totally up for it! I'll be out of school from the 17th March to the 15th April.

edit: I've checked my timetable, and those are the dates I'm off for Easter.
Phantom
April sounds awesome, though I can only do the middle part. I will be in Ireland in the beginning of april and in the end I will be in Nehterlands.

Feel free to pop in to my birthday as well ^^
froggle-rock
Anytime in March after the 10th is good for me. I can also offer sleeping space (one sofa, one fold out sofa thingy and floor space) in London- PM me if interested happy.gif

Mata
Sorry, I'd love to, but I'll be in the middle of teaching chaos around then. It tends to be that point where life gets very complicated for the first year students, so I'm usually very heavily occupied pretty much 24/7. I might be able to make something at the last minute, but I'd hedge my bets to suggest I probably won't be able to get there.

I'm hoping it will be smooth for you BM. I'll be checking your grades in a week or two to see how you're doing!

I only have to retake 2 things from the last block, one of which is so easy I can do it in my sleep tongue.gif

If it is that easy why do you need to retake it? wink.gif

Because the system school forces on students to hand in is kinda stupid, and partly because I'm a forgetful SOB xD
Phyllis
Okay! So...maybe the 14th of April? I'll probably start a thing on FB soon...ish.

We'd love to come to your bday, Sara, but don't think we can make it down to London twice in such a short time. sad.gif

Yeah, I didn't expect you to be able to make it, Mata. No worries. smile.gif

BM, I'm confused by the dates you posted, as none seem to be weekends except the 3rd of May. laugh.gif Good luck with your retakes!

Lol, thanks. Anyway, it's the dates I posted and weekends wink.gif
Phyllis
OH, right. That makes more sense. biggrin.gif

A weekday meet wouldn't work for us, anyway.

Hehe. The 14th sounds good. Should we go have a vote or something about this? (The earlier I get my tickets the cheaper happy.gif)
LoLo
The 14th is fine for me. biggrin.gif

Same here. And now my March has pretty much filled up, so the 14th of April is the only date I can do when Lo is on her Easter break.

Busy, busy bee.

So thats 3 for. If there aren't any opposed should we lock it down to the 14th?
Lurker in the Park
4 in favour, I should be around that weekend.
froggle-rock
14th April gets my vote happy.gif
Phyllis
Okay! East Midlands Trains are having a sale on tickets to London this weekend, and you can book up to 12 weeks in advance, so I'm going to go ahead and book tickets for the 14th sometime soon, unless someone comes up with a really strong objection. happy.gif

What she said.
mooooooooooopo
Ditto.
BigMistake
I'm going to buy my tickets sometime this week, after I figure out how much everything is going to cost me tongue.gif.

Since I'll be heading to London, is there something Dutch-y that I should bring along?
snooodlysnoosnoosnoodle
Ok, I've got my train ticket!!

I arrive at Euston at 13.54 and leave at 21.43. Do we have a plan for where/when to meet?

Got my tickets as well. I arrive at 06:45 on Saturday and leave 22:40 Sunday. Now to find something to do in London thats not totally expensive. I've already reserved a few hours to lurk at Hamley's =D
froggle-rock
Snoo, I'm sure it'll be the Champion? I think it's calle,d The Samuel Smith's pub off Oxford Street.

I know *where* we are going, I was just wondering if we were going to meet and go there en masse or if I have to find it on my own!

Or another question: What to do when we get there.

Drink and be merry!

It will indeed! Moop and I should be there about 2 PM.

You'll have to find it yourself, snoo, but it's really easy to walk there from Euston station. I promise! I managed it from St Pancras, and my sense of direction is horrible! Obsessive tracing of our route on Google street view helped. I think it took us about 20-30 minutes.

Whee, our tickets are booked, too. biggrin.gif

And BM: it's a pub, silly. I think the "what to do" is fairly self-explanatory. tongue.gif We lurk and we drink (well, you don't, I know) and we talk about random crap. It's a lot like IRC, but in person. And with less frightening links.

Usually. ph34r.gif

Hehe. So there's no danger of karaoke or the like? tongue.gif
Lurker in the Park
Karaoke can be arranged...

The pub is behind The Plaza shopping centre on Oxford Street, really easy to find.

hahah yeah I understood, just inviting people I like ^^
I'll be looking out for your facebook event concerning this topic though.
Daria
So, um... It's possibly/ very likely that I'll be in London that weekend as there's a family wedding (not my family - first family do I've been invited to on Jeff's side...) on the Monday in Somerset. As it's in Somerset, there may be plans to go down early but WATCH THIS SPACE as a Daria may appear.

... somewhat older, shaven-headed, and more bouncy than before. Lúl >_>
Daria
(Seriously you guys, 3 years. 4, in some cases. Too long)
Daria
Ignore that, the wedding is on the 14th sad.gif
mooooooooooopo
Boo. sad.gif
BigMistake
The obvious course of action is of course to delay the wedding by starting rumours about the bride!
Mata
That's a fair point - it's the only sensible course of action. People get married all the time, but if it's been 3/4 years since your last meet then that should take priority smile.gif
Phyllis
Yes! Start rumours! I heard she once wore the same socks for 17 days. Do you really want to marry someone that filthy, Mr. Groom?

(In all seriousness, that sucks that you can't make it, Becky. sad.gif I don't think I've seen you since we had that picnic in the park meet ages ago!)
Phyllis
Okay, started a FB event to prod people who don't ordinarily visit the forums. Mata and Becky, I didn't add you to the list, since you already said you can't make it and I didn't wanna pester you. smile.gif BM, I don't have you on FB at all, but you're still invited! tongue.gif

Yay BigMistake bought me chocolate milk!

I'm also bringing some other Dutch-y stuff like stroopwafels, suikerbrood and advocaat, because nobody should feel left out happy.gif

"Suikerbrood" is sugarbread. It's pretty sticky bread with lumps of sugar in it, very tasty. Advocaat is the Dutch equivalent of eggnog, but slightly different.
