LoLo
I seriously don't get why women can't go around topless in society, at least here in America.

I was outside mowing my lawn just a bit ago, and even though I was wearing a tank top I still was getting really hot because of the clothing. I just wanted to rip that bad boy off and start mowing my lawn in nothing but my jeans and bra. Thing is I can't do cause I could get ticketed for indecent exposure.

Where my sis lives they made a law saying it's ok for women to go topless. Problem was that most of the people who voted it were horny boys who wanted to see some breasts. lol. So this overweight woman was out mowing her lawn and she wasn't wearing her shirt and she got ticketed for indecent exposure. Aparently it's ok as long as it's only thin women with nice boobs that are walking around topless. The law got revoked and it's back to where only men can walk around with shirts on.

If it's the overweight body that offends and keeps women from being able to be topless, then why doesn't this apply to men? I was outside and my neighbor was trimming is bushes without his shirt on. I really didn't want to see his roll and inverted nipples but there's no law saying that he has to wear a shirt when he's outside.

I know if I were to be able to be topless that I would be like the woman where my sister lives, because I know people do not want to see my rolls. Sure I may have a nice rack, but the extra weight that goes below my boobs isn't all that appealing to most people.

I just wanted to know other people's thoughts on this.
cheese is funny
it sucks for two reasons

1) the overweight women thing... why is a law passed for all women... but revoked for overweight women? BS as far as im concerned... im telling you... young horney guys is a problem =P

2) the double standerds... its unfair that guys get special treatment over women... i know i hate it when i see 70 percent of guys with their shirts off....
oobunnie
Well i would say that here in North America it because our culture is still un-comforatable with women sexuality. Do you remember the controversy over Christina Aguilras (i dunno how to spell her name so neh) Video Dirty. It seems or society still doesnt want to accept sexuality like the others. It is changing but at somewhat of a snail pace. I dont really have a problem between overweight or thin people doing there thing, as long as there happy doing it. But i still think it will be along time coming before women are allowed to go topless
LoLo
I agree that it will be a long time coming before women can go topless, and that it has been slow going for women in progress. Like my women's history teacher said last year everytime women take two steps forward they have to take one step back. Really slows progression.
hinsley
yeah it is weird, the things we havce that are actualy there for summat (except anything on our faces >.>) have to be covered. tis weird. tho sayin that i wouldnt want everyone to walk around naked. tho sayin that it would be easier if we did casue then if someone still hit on you you know thwy dont mind your body!!
Jonman
Until breasts cease to be viewed by society as an overtly sexual characteristic, then this is unlikely to change. The male version would be to walk around with your balls dangling out for everyone to see.

Comparing it with men walking around shirtless isn't really a like-for-like comparison.

My personal view? Let 'em swing in the wind, old and young, little and large.

er.... mens bits are gross looking tho, so i hoe this would nver ever happen and i dont see this as the same as a nice rack bein out on show at all.
ravein
lmfao...please lord...never in my life... let me walk outside and see the landscapers balls hanging out.

But it is a double standard though.. men's breast are not seen (in the US anyways) as a overly sexual portion of the body.. which is bs...because... well it just is...trust me..it is just as sexual as a woman's breast, at least it was for the guys I dated. But since a mans chest is a sign of manhood it is okay. On the other hand women's breasts are seen as a sign of fertility..associated with sex and the dirty job of child birth...so by all means keep those bad boys in your over the shoulder boulder holder... unless your getting paid 25,000$ from playboy. laugh.gif

perception sucks
spuglet
i think that there being laws against 'going natural' is just stupid and i think women should have just as much a right to go around topless as men legally, and in the eyes of society.

but saying that, i dontr want ugly old men going topless! so im afraid its tops on for all or tops on for none (and warning signs!)

OR certain areas designated for the natural look, so people are warned and cannot be offended!
craziness
you know, i never really thought about this, but i think you make an excellent point. i think that men is the american society are barely even viewed as sexy at all. some guys dont know if other guys look good or not. because they dont know what girls want. what girls want is not important. its just what guys like. so girls all know what men want from them and who is the hottest girl and who is pretty etc, and it is expected. i have been yelled at by a boy before for talking about how hot i think my [male] friend is!!! he said that i cant say hes hot or sexy, that is just wrong. i can say hes "cute" or "good looking." what the profanity is that about?!?!??! and with the overweight woman being fined!!!!!!!!!!! that is a profanitying outrage!! if your gonnna make a profanitying law, then make it and keep it!!!!! were supposed to be a profanitying free nation, and not have segregation. profanitying lieing american govt and society. i hate you. you suck.

i would have written tonnnnnnnnnnnnns of curses, this made me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad, but i respect matas rules so i didnt.

I am so much in agreement about this issue. Every time summer comes around, I start ranting constantly about how I should be allowed to go shirtless in the heat. I have a tendency to sweat A LOT, so that makes wearing a shirt kinda uncomfortable, with it sticking to me and all...

Not only that, but there was one summer that I got horribly, horribly sunburnt on my back. It was so uncomfortably painful that 1) I could not stand wearing a shirt at all because of it touching my sunburn in any way and 2) I had to have a thick layer of Noxzema on my back at all times or else it would feel like I literally had flames constantly shooting at my back. It was a sunBURN in the truest sense of the word. Anyway, wearing a t-shirt that sticks to the gobs of Noxzema on your back is not the most comfortable thing (and then you have to frequently wash your shirts if you do that), and even more uncomfortable is even wearing a shirt AT ALL when you have a sunburn that bad. I resented the fact that I had to stay away from open windows in my apartment if I wanted to go shirtless, and that I had to don a shirt if I wanted to do so much as take the trash out. Just because I'm a womyn.

I agree with all the other points made in this thread too. We're still a remarkably puritanical society in the sense that our society still frequently tries to deny wimmin their sexuality. Men can publicly brag/joke about masturbation, but that's an almost off-limits topic for most wimmin. And even the word "vagina" often sounds like a dirtier word than any vulgar alternative word for the male genitals.

:::::EDIT:::::
Oh! And I just realized something else. It says a lot about our society's expectations and assumptions that LoLo felt the need to subtitle a topic named "Topless Wimmin" with the disclaimer that "no it's not porn." Because it's true, after all, that we all probably would have clicked on a plainly titled "Topless Wimmin" topic thinking that we were going to read something about strip joints and porn movies. The disclaimer would not have been necessary had it been a topic about shirtless men. It's also interesting that the word "topless" is somewhat gendered. I bet you don't know too many people who refer to "topless men," unless it's in jest. On that note, a topic entitled "topless men" would have probably been dismissed as a typo or a joke; and we could safely assume that a topic named "Men Without Shirts" or something similar would probably be a poll about whether you prefer men with shirts or without shirts. Okay, rant over.

... well that just bites the big one. I mean I would never have the guts to go topless but the fact that men have the right and women don't is sexist. And its odd, cuz a woman at the beach can wear the tiniest little bitty swimsuite and as long as her nipples are covered its ok... but to straight up go topless is bad.. wtf is up with that???
craziness
well now that i think about it, i dont think you would be sued etc if yoou walked outside in a bikini top, but in a bra you prolly would.
spuglet
i agree crazi! it has been really far too hot here lately and if a wandered around in a halter neck top or bikini, i get the odd look
but when wearing a bra beneath just a net top i get glares from all sides. even women who seem to be sexist against their own kind....its so annyoing!

oh, look, its a nipple, lets tut (unless its a celebrity or a porn star)
reaper
First of all I believe that when the made it legal for girls to go topless they only made it that way to see some boobs however when they saw the overwait women doing it they quickly backtracked it, I mean if it is legal for women to go topless it should be legal for ALL women just like ALL guys are aloud to go shirtless, regardless of wait.

When it all comes down to it though that law is really sexist. I think that it is unfair to give us that right and not women, I mean if they want to do it they should be able to just like us. How many guys who are old enough to vote can HONESTLY say they have never seen boobs before, pssssh. Its not like we all walk around nude or anything, so whats the big deal, if you ask me there is none. Girls should have that very same right regardless of wait.

Just a word of advice Car, Jek pointed this out to me awhile back when I baked my upper arm. Pour some rubbing alcohol on it. It's amazingly soothing and the burn doesn't come back for a couple of hours, and it's not sticky.

I talk about it openly, but then again I'm weird and you know that after how many years hanging out with me? lol

I did that out of respect for Mata and his forums. I know how people think and they might go τΏτ if they read just topless women, so I thought it would be nice to let them know I wanted this to be a serious topic, not porn.

Wow, JEK gave you that advice?? The same guy who used a knife to cut the corns off of his feet (or was it warts?)? tongue.gif

Anyway, I never would have thought of alcohol for sunburn. Kinda seems contradictory to me... wink.gif Thanks for the advice though, so I know better for next time. I've kind of shied away from getting alcohol anywhere near my body ever since I made the mistake of putting rubbing alcohol on a particularly painful canker sore at the back of my mouth, and the alcohol made it sting so bad that I gagged and spat until my tongue nearly fell out. Um, was that a stupid thing to do?

<insert off topic statement> Holy hell.. Car?!</insert off topic statement>

I think it's a shame the US is so closed off when it comes to sexuality. Granted, it used to be a lot worse, but it's still not getting much better. There's nothing wrong with the human body, large or small. I honestly can't say that I'd like to live in a nudist colony, as there are things I'd rather not see on a daily basis, but I have no problem with people going topless.

its so damn irritating! some reasons for women not going topless 'it can make make others uncomfortable'

uncomfortable? how about having to see a fat sweaty red 40 something with man breasts bigger then your own go topless?

or having to wear a bra and top when its 24 degrees and youve just had P.E?
leopold
See, this is the problem right here...

Spugs, if the 40-summat fat guy mysteriously turned into a buff 20 y/o, would ya still complain about seein his torso? No, prolly not.

This is the issue - nobody minds seein attractive women wi perky mammaries, but seein a woman who is (an forgive me please ladies) on the chunky an saggy side, may be considered visually offensive.

Jon's right about the sexualisation of the breasts, but I really can't see the problem here. Women are only really expected to keep the nipples covered, an yet we chaps have those too. I dun really understand the problem there...

Sorry spugs, not havin a go at ya there... it was for example purposes only *hugs*

As a workin guy, I resent havin to wear a shirt an suit in summer while the lay-dees can flounce about in little cotton numbers that keep em cool. I bet if I did that I'd be sent home! laugh.gif

Now here is an interesting concept. What if the shoe was on the other foot. What if guys were not aloud to go shirtless and girls were and the media made it out that it was porn for guys to do so and not for girls. What would that be like ?
kidvicious2punk
I cant believe we would actually come to talking about this...
but i do think it its unfair that wecant go without shirts.i mean im not saying i like to show them off or anything but sometimes we get hot too!!I know its a wierd question to assk....but y do ppl on the jerry springer show like it more when the fat people flash...i watched an episode like that and it very deeply troubled me...she was the ugliest woman ive seen....it was just wrong..
i wonder if guys wear no shirts because they can or because they find themselves sexy...i dont really know, but i think when there is a woman president of the united states..or if a dictator of the whole world is just really perverted...maybe then we will have that rite....i donno tho.. ph34r.gif

That would be certainly interesting blink.gif I'm quite sure there love you wouldn't mind that with me wink.gif LOL but of course thats beside the point laugh.gif

Another interresting thing to think about would be when we were all born. I found out that before the Y chromosome in the males becomes active to make him a boy in the womb, they have ALL the characteristics of females, only counting physical aspects of course. I cannnot recall how many weeks before that dang old Y chromosone kicks in with the guys when still in their moms, but before then, your peckers are like a females, and your "third leg" isnt even existing. All the males chest is what you call empty plumbing.

I do also agree that it is very sexist that females can't be topless, but males can. I have had times where i felt like just ripping my shirt off because its so hot, especially at school but of course, a couple of my male friends would definitely get a kick out of that tongue.gif lol I will say though that I am slighty larger by then some (not like 500 pounds or DEFINITELY anything over 300 by that matter) ANd my observations conclude that even us slightly larger females don't get the media attention like the skinny big racked ladies get tongue.gif in some cases we get the exact opposite!

To me...it is not fair at all.
spuglet
that wasnt a piont i was making leo! i was just arguing a different point of view to go against the 'it makes people feel uncomfortable' argument! it wasnt actually my opinion! but then i didnt write it very well did i....no.. ah well.

but on the subject, i think everyone should be allowed to go starkers or no one, not one rule for some and one rule for others.
leopold
Like I say, spugs, I wasn't havin a dig or anythin... yer quite right, it should be the same rule fer all. However, given this world is a shallow place full o shallow people, I guess we should make the rule "no nudity for anyone". An make aircon free. biggrin.gif

today i was at a party, 2 girls and 4 guys. 2 guys jump in. i jump in. when i jump in, everybody is freaking out because
a-i have big boobs
b-im not skinny enough for them
wtf!??!?!
leopold
Bah! I never understood that logic!

Fer me, a woman should be fully curved. Not jus that "Here's me chest, where's the rest" thing. I jus dun find that attractive in the least...

(ps: This is directed to women in general, an not jecca particularly. Cos that would be naughty.)
MistressAlti
Unfortunately, some of us aren't just curved. I'm curved, all right, like in layers. I've got more curves than a winding mountain road. And men (in general) dun like that very much. People are highly shallow like that.

Pity, really.
oobunnie
I wish I had more curves, I have a high metabolism so no matter what i eat I stay stick thin. In the last year by eating large amounts of food every day ( and lots of fatty foods) i've managed to gain an entire 3 pounds. Its some what annoying really dry.gif

what jonman said, people won't stop viewing boobs as a sexual...things, i don't think it helps that some wimmin do use them to attract men (or wimmin, depends on your preference) in a sexual manner
as for people's intollerance for over weight people, i personally dispise it (the intollerance, not the over weight thing) as it goes i hate to wear shorts, let along take my top off because i really hate how skinny i am (really, my ribs are visible as are my hip BONES...and i have no butt sad.gif ), probably me being paranoid or something....
Jonman
Expanding on the point of boobs being sexy bundles of fun, it's pretty much irreversible. Not only is it totally inground into Western society and sexuality, it's (for guys anyway) partly instinct. I read an article a while back that proposed that the male attraction to boobs was part of the male psyche, as it's indicitive of a good mating partner....

Big boobs = lots of breastfeeding potential = ability to suckle many young and send your genes marching down through the next generation.

I certainly believe that's a part of it - I can't otherwise explain my love of chest puppies in all their shapes and sizes.

Here's an interesting one though, do the lesbians and bi girls on the forum have a similar prediliction for boobs in their partners? And if so, how do we explain that one? Come to that, what do the gay guys think of them? Disgusted, indifferent, or strangely attracted despite their opposite sexuality?

I believe wholeheartedly, that women should have all the rights men do. biggrin.gif
There is no reason in the world, that I can see why women shouldn't be able to be topfree
like men. After all, women do it in other countries, why not here? Our USA society is too prude
that's why. And the only thing that gets hidden in the new bikinis of today, is the nipples, and
so what? Everyone has nipples! The only reason men get excited over them is because our
society has made nipples a big huge secret with the cover up we do- it's crazy! mad.gif

I seem to think the Ontario provincial gov't okay'd women going topless in public. The law was amended when business owners tried to hire women to entice business to their shop by lingering outside. So, still legal to go topless but not for the purpose of soliciting business. Take that statement as you like. tongue.gif

I for one endorse topless women.

Totally unrelated, but some friends came over earlier to work on a project, so when they pressed the back button twice, it said 'topless women' in the search part. "Quick, click on it!" "Dude no, I'm a girl" "Just do it, Izzy was looking at it" Me: "Erm, that's not what you think it is, I swear"

So, four years on and... America is still completely freaked out by sex, but weirdly ignores violence. We're kind of the other way around in the UK, but at least that's slightly more sociable. Possibly.

Yeah, I never got the whole deal about Americans being so very frightened of sex. Well, I understand (f__king up tight right wing conservative Christians) but I disagree. I likes boobies. I really do. And in the interest of fairness, I think women should be allowed to go shirtless should they so desire.

Then again, I also think they should have to register for the draft. Fat load of good that's doing me.
