ahem, i was just watching the latest LGG animation and i noticed something a little odd...mata asked for DOLLARS!! are you or are you not English man?! tongue.gif

don't get me wrong i have nothing against other currencies, i have no problem with dumping the £, but it thought the .co.uk in the site URL identified it as english.... ph34r.gif

ok....random thought over

...should this be in the daft forum??....meh
CommieBastard
I noticed that too. It seems the corrupting fingers of Americanisation have reached even that bastion of Britishness, the great Mata.

http://www.matazone.com will also get you there. Last I checked, ".com" was country-neutral. But what do I know, eh?

You know, I've seen a lot more Americans get "corrupted" by Britishness than the other way around, especially on this site. Now I can't even keep the ''u" out of my words... "colour" and "favourite", indeed... dry.gif
hinsley
americans dont have a u in favourite? madness....

well twist my nipples and call me mandy, i never knew that....still....bloody dollars laugh.gif
Mata
About 80% of my visitors come from the US and it doesn't take a lot to put people off from donating, ask for the wrong currency and they'll go 'Well, I don't have any UK£ so I guess I won't donate then'...

In addition to this I think the US has more cultural understanding of the work that is involved for an individual maintaining a website whereas the UK is more prone to thinking of the internet as being run for free by large companies so again UK£ would be less likely to get a response.

This said though I think I'll suggest a couple of dollars/pounds/euros next time smile.gif

Oh yes, and I bought the .com a while ago when I figured that it was possible that someone else might buy it to try and cash in on my success. Eventually the .com might be the main address for the site... Maybe... Maybe not *shrugs* I own the .com for the next ten years but I have to renew the .co.uk every two.
hinsley
but im so used to writing the .co.uk in, its like some personal obbsession of mine!!! (ok im over exagerating)

*runs of screaming .co.uk*
Mata
Don't worry, it won't be changing anytime soon! The .co.uk is still the 'proper' address, I just bought the .com one to cover my bases, here's a few more for you:

http://www.little-goth-girl.co.uk
http://www.mr-snaffleburger.com
http://www.mr-snaffleburger.co.uk

smile.gif

I also own http://www.alternateworld.co.uk but I've not done anything with that yet, I got a free .co.uk domainname and it was the first thing that came into my head!
Sir Psycho Sexy
mata, you put your point across so eloquently that ...well... you own all of those?? isn't it expensive?!
Mingtea
Domains cost hardly anything now 40 quid for 2 years....

I spend more on maccys....

Also i'm pretty sure that alternateworld url could fetch a bit.
Mata
Yeah, they do cost a bit to get them all but I figured that since my stuff was going up on MTV2 it would be prudent to buy domains that would get a very high search listing should anyone else try to get in on the act.

It pays to be careful about these things, for example:

.com domains cost a lot more but they are the default in people's heads so you really have to have both.

I think that introducingmonday thing happened ages ago, the company has taken down their .com address now!
leopold
Yep, the .com's do... they charge £8.88 per year, but that goes down if ya buy a block of 10 years worth. Can't remember how much by, it's not a huge amount though...

I didn't get a .com fer mine, but I must admit I'm thinkin about it now...
