I think she's confusing it with Fiji. That's very very very far away. Scotland's just a bit of a drive up the M1, innit?

One thing I've learnt from living over in Yankee-land is how wrong my British-bred perception of what a long way is.

Aye. I'm spending some time in Montreal in July, thought I'd drop in on Jenn and Geoff - same country, right?

"So how far away are Montreal and Sasketchewan?"
"About a thirty-hour drive."
"You people have thirty-hour drives?"

There is the romance of the hills and vales and run down bits of Glasgow to be viewed in Scotland though... I reckon if Tara can make it to Winchester then we can make it up north at some point.

However, currently it looks like being May 15th in Leeds. We'll be going to The Wendy House, and Alternative, 80's and goth night with an industrial/hard dance floor upstairs. http://www.thewendyhouse.org . It's a good laugh so I've been told.

It's 3.50 in advance or 4 on the door, 9pm to 2:30am, so we'll need to find somewhere else to be until it starts since we seem to mostly go straight from lunch to the pub!

Lea, since you live there, you're in charge of finding out useful stuff like centrally placed B&Bs, a place to eat (non-chain is a preference but Pizza Hut is easy. Pizza is good because it caters for all tastes... Of people who like pizza) and a place to drink until The Wendy House kicks off.

Yeesh... I never expected anything so concrete to come from this thread...

Well, that's MataMeet 3 sorted. I'm pretty sure I can make Leeds for the 15th of May (a mere nine days before my birthday...). Now it's up to me to sort a date for Manchester in September.

Watch this space, comrades...

I've just noticed while looking for hotels that it's the Leeds Half Marathon on the Sunday (16th May) so if we want to do this we really ought to think about booking hotels ASAP otherwise we won't be able to stay over sad.gif Either that or we all end up in Lea's bed! wink.gif

Also, it's a 6th birthday of the Wendy House that night so it should be packed and rockin'! biggrin.gif

Ah now that makes a lot more sense! biggrin.gif

I've had a look at train times for ya (hey, I'm bored! biggrin.gif) and it takes between 2-3 hours with 1-2 stops depending on how you get there. One train goes through Warrington where I'll be coming from but I'm not sure whether me and Ed are driving or catching the train yet.

catch the train so i can meet up with sum board members before i get there!!!

there is only 1 other board member from stafford and she isn't active here anymore, and i don't think she likes me that much anymore neway tongue.gif so i will be all on my own from stafford :/

i haven't decided yet but i will probably be wearing my make up which will make me very easily noticed but if ya want if ya du decide 2 come on the train i kan pm ya my mobile number so u kan tell me where 2 find ya at the train station...

Here are some hotels B&B's that sound ok!! They aren't in the centre of Leeds just on the outskirts!!! But Headinley is about 10-15 minutes away by bus an during the day the buses are very very frequent!!! The last one is in Horsforth (thats where i live) an it's a tad futher out but its near me laugh.gif Anyway yea i'll call them up to check out prices, when you'd have to be in etc... for you!! Just thought i'd put something on the thread to show that i'm not being a lazy ass an what sort of thing you'll all be letting yourselves in for. tongue.gif

I looked at more cental Leeds but the prices there range from 60 for a single room 70-80 for a double during the weekend!! I think thats a tad much!! But yea i'll keep you posted... i probably won't call the hotels till tomorrow... have to get some credit so if any of you have any questions that you'd like me to ask them just to find out stuff then just post it an i'll ask them smile.gif

*goes off to do some more searching*

Tort, don't stress about it, we find eachother easily enough. I'm the tall one who looks like the bloke in all the animation, Pat's the one who's even taller and looks like himself in the photos, Jennie is the one who is smaller and looks less like she's chewing wasps/having her boob groped (depending on which set of photos you're looking at)... And so on. We're a pretty distinctive bunch. Generally loud. Usually a few are conspicuously wearing Matazone t-shirts... Easy to find.

Lea, could you do some map checking please and see which of these are in reasonable walking/cab distance of Wendy House please?

Meh. I say we demand kipping space at the houses of those who have bitten us. That gives us a worrying amount of Leeds-ish places to splat at...

Yea sure i'll print some off an everything for people or do you want me to put them on the thread?! blink.gif

From Headingley/Horsforth to Leeds the buses run quite regularly into the town centre - that is where the Wendy House is!! (I'm asuming if its the student union that i am thinking about!?) So in the early hours of the evening i would suggest getting a bus... not walking it is a VERY VERY long road to walk from Headingley... walkable but not suggested!!

At night people who are staying in Headingley, a taxi would cost about 8... Horsforth is a tad more but i'll be going there!! If people are really strapped for cash i could walk us all... well drunkenly walk us all to Headingley but it would talk up to 30-45 mins depending on my co-ordination etc... wink.gif Then Me an Cath (who i have imprisoned in my room for the weekend) will be getting a taxi (I AM NOT WALKING TO HORSFORTH!!) smile.gif so peole who maybe staying in Horsforth could jump in with us laugh.gif

If we do get taxi's from Leeds centre tho i'll make sure no-one gets ripped off some taxi companies can be real gits like that dry.gif Also the taxi's are basically everywhere at night you just have to wave at one an they stop!! laugh.gif

During the day, after the food-whatja-mi-like i was thinking of us all maybe heading to Fab Cafe its very cool!!! 80's cartoons everywhere!!! happy.gif wub.gif

I generally know my way round Leeds pretty well cause of living there as a kid an now living there again so i can just be a tour guide barbie too!! I'd like that... would make me feel useful *nods*

An Cath!!! No pointing this time sad.gif gives me a complex!!! tongue.gif
Queenie
Ok ignore the first sentence on my last post... just reread what you said looked at the link yadda yadda... an yea!! So the best hotels out of them would be in Headingley along an around Cardigan Road (I know where that is!!):

smile.gif = Broomhurst Hotel
smile.gif = Cardigan Hotel
smile.gif = The Manor Hotel
smile.gif = Aintree Hotel

I'll call them an see what sort of times you would have to be back etc... if that would help?!

There is also one in Horsforth:

smile.gif = Glenwood Hotel... but that may also be on the other side of Horsforth can't seem to find my bearings on the map!!

But yea with the Headingley hotels... if people looked into those ones they would all be quite close together an if we plan to meet at the train station before?! I would be able to take all of those who travel by train on the wonderful public transport that is a bus an then take you to Cardigan Road etc... personally!!! It's not that far on the bus smile.gif How does that sound!?

Also i'm sorry but unless people want to spend around 80 for a hotel room a night they aren't really going to get any closer to Leeds. Headingley is basically the closest that you can get to Leeds... well that or Hyde Park an i personally wouldn't really want to leave anyone there... isn't really a nice place!! unsure.gif The public transport is good during the day so you won't have to spend too much getting into Leeds (a day rider is 1.80) it's just the getting out an as i said in post above if people want i can walk them back to Headingley... it's just quite a distance!! *shrugs*
