Here's a few pages of the webcomic we are doing for about 9 months now.

This is the end of scene one and the beginning of scene two. It should be very cool. The art is done in FlashMX with photoshop skies.

Hey CB, fantastic drawings, and a great site you've got there too. I gave you a vote on the chart, you're at number 16 at the moment, nice going!

Out of interest, have you ever thought about animating the strips? Even if you keep the same imagery and just move around the layers with simple mouth animations... Even simple animation tends to get a lot of attention. 'Just a thought. I notice you've got some Flash on your site so I was wondering if you'd ever thought of combining it all together.

This said though, I wouldn't blame you for not doing animation, it does tend to take ages and by the look of things you spend long enough on each page as it is!

Anyway, welcome to my forums, I may badger you for cartooning tips at some point smile.gif

That is amazing work! Wow... very impressive. biggrin.gif

The art here reminds me of a nice mix of some of the better Vantage comics and Anime. I like the subtle use of color. I'd cut down on the heavy line inking just a smidge and it'd take on an etherial quality. Very good work, totally professional. Impressive as hell.

Here are a few of the latest pages for our next scene. I think some of the effects turned out well.

What did you do it with?

And err, why are there so many women that are soilders? (Just asking)

It's done with Flash MX and photoshop for things like clouds, smoke and dust.

In the comic, out of 99 different characters in the first 56 pages only 14 are women.

99 different characters? Sounds like War and Peace.

Interesting... you don't reveal a lot of the story (or maybe I'm missing it) but I will say that the art is pretty impressive. Kudos.

Awesome artwork. The way you shade really gives the pictures lots of life, and the expressions do as well. I like your detail on the guns. :nods: I'm not too sure exactly what the story is either, but I can tell there's war concepts. :laughs: You did a good job of telling us that. But other than that, very nice. ^ ^

We didn't want to start out the story with a "in the year XXXX blabla bla" I wanted the readers to experience the story along with the characters. The first chapter is a short action intro (although it will be around 75-80 pages long, it takes place in about 15 minutes of real time). THe next chapter will begin to fill in the background pieces as to what is going on.

The bottom frame of the newest page is all photoshop because the flash background didn't blend in well with the explosion.

You should start with "In had 2101 war was beggining".

Jeebus I wish I could draw like that. blink.gif

Oh.. I like how the bird caught the pilot. Fantabulous work btw.

The top frame took a few extra days to finish, but I think it was worth the extra time.

Thanks Boomer smile.gif

This page was supposed to be a one frame page, but I wanted to tie the three elements together for the coming pages.

*Weeps because he know he will never be able to draw like that...* Out of curiosity, how did you do the smoke and explosions in PhotoShop?

I've seen your drawings - you can.

Anyways, wow - those are really really good. I wish I could just create characters like that, my problem with drawing is I have to see something in a picture in order to draw it - otherwise it doesn't turn out right. For anime at least -- for still lifes and other drawings I don't need a picture. -- Got any tips for me?

Wow you're talented.

Slap some color down and push it around until it loks like smoke/fire.

We had a tutorial section that shows how we do clouds, explosions are about the same thing with different colors.

Draw a lot, if you look at our test comic we did 18 months ago you can see how far we've come putting out one page a week.

I think the grass fire and explosions worked out pretty well. The burms finally turned out the way I wanted.

How do you draw this? With a pen pad? And why use Flash MX, why not just make the whole thing in Photoshop?

I have to say, like everyone else here, that this is some nice work. Ever thought about trying to get it printed? When you're finished with it, I mean.

We draw the comic on wacom tablets directly into the computers. We use flashmx for most of the drawing because there are things you can do in flash you can't in photoshop. We use the strengths of both programs to produce the comic. We plan on printing the first chapter in a 96 page 10x8 full color graphic novel by the end of the year.
