{"id":578,"date":"2010-05-14T13:06:46","date_gmt":"2010-05-14T12:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matazone.co.uk\/blog\/?p=578"},"modified":"2010-05-14T13:06:46","modified_gmt":"2010-05-14T12:06:46","slug":"searching-for-aliens-on-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matazone.co.uk\/blog\/?p=578","title":{"rendered":"Searching for aliens on earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By &#8216;aliens&#8217; the writer of this article is talking about a species that has evolved independently of known life.<\/p>\n<p>The basic idea is this:<br \/>\nNonlife can turn into life.<br \/>\nIf life can appear on earth once then there&#8217;s no reason that it can&#8217;t have happened twice, or still be happpening all around us.<br \/>\nIf we can prove it&#8217;s happened twice, that tells us that it&#8217;s a relatively common event (on an astronomical scale).<br \/>\nIf the beginning of life is a common occurence then that significantly increases the chances that it has happened in many other places.<br \/>\n&#8230; But first we have to find life that hasn&#8217;t descended from the same ancestor as all of the rest of us!<\/p>\n<p>This little article is about the search for life that is descended from a fresh ancestor &#8211; life with which we have no common living ancestry.
