Cool! I've spent several lunchimes this week playing Smash Bros and Mario Kart on the N64 (US versions, a few people insist that there is a difference, possibly just PAL slowdown). I found Smash Brothers hard to get into but good fun once the controls start to make sense.

I think I still prefer the SNES Mario Kart, the tracks are less convoluted and it's not possible to skip 90% of the track with well timed jumps. If only the SNES supported 4 player.

I've been playing Super Mario on the DS, and competing against my siblings in getting high scores on the rec room games. I quite like the bomb sorting one, though my sister beat my score of 158 with 181. I think she was on the caffine. >_>

Also been playing card games, snap, cheat, gin rummy, blackjack and Chinese patience.

I'm playing The Orange Box, which is utterly superb. I also spent a couple of hours on the Flash version of Portal http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/ . It's really very good indeed.

Funnily enough, I've been playing Fable as well, but it's research for a possible job. Now I've got my head back around the ridiculous control scheme (hold right trigger, press Y twice, then press B to cast a Heal Spell. Come on, that's just daft!) I'm really enjoying it.

I played through Super Mario Galaxy a few weeks ago and it's awesome. The physics of jumping between tiny planets which somehow have enough gravity to hold you on is really fun to play around with and the puzzles use it well. The nice thing is the game should appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers as only 50 or so of the 120 power stars you have to collect are needed to fight the final boss so you can play only the levels which suit you in terms of difficulty and finish the game. Currently I have 90 or so power stars and will probably go back some time to finish it off.

I've been temporarily trading Wii games with people from work a lot recently. First off was Mercury Meltdown Revolution which was cool but seemed a bit limited and Kororinpa is simpler and more fun, despite being essentially the same concept.

I've also borrowed SSX Blur which has made its way onto my Christmas list now. It took a bit of getting used to and is definitely at the harder end of the scale but once you understand the controls, which are nearly all motion controlled, it's great fun and flows really well.

Finally, Guitar Hero III, also for the Wii, arrived on Friday and since then nothing else has had a look in as both me and Cand are hopelessly addicted. Currently I've plowed through it on easy and medium but hard is still giving me a kicking. There were a lot of complaints because despite having a Dolby surround sound logo on the box it only actually outputs mono sound - I haven't really noticed it though, not being a complete audiophile, and it doesn't detract from the gameplay at all.

I like the way the Guitar plugs into the Wii remote in the same way as the nunchuck so motion sensing (for star power) comes for free as does the wirelessness and the ability to play random notes through the wiimote speaker when you mess up.

Handy tip: I found it on Amazon.co.uk for £60 which is £15 less than it seems to sell for in the shops though when I ordered it I may have ganked the last in stock.

I'll stop waffling now.

So I brought my PS2 to college only to forget my damn power adaptor. I was pissed when I realized this.

Anyway, I tried out Mario Galaxy today and now I can't wait for my brother to get his Wii for Christmas. It's a great game.

I've also been playing a lot of Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES on this dandy website. It's great fun, but damned if it isn't hard! I've been playing for about two weeks (I don't close the screen) and am only on World Six! But I swear to God it won't beat me!

I spent 5 quid on Sid Miers Railroads (I like management games) and UFO: Aftershock few weeks ago. I regret buying neither and they've kept me going for weeks. Budget PC games are great.

Aftershock is approaching the greatness of the original XCom - UFO defense from 1995. It's in close competition with Laser Squad Nemesis but wins because of the better tactical controls and the strategic mode which gives it more variety. Aftershock crashes a lot though. sad.gif

Another minor criticism is that the tech tree is too convoluted. You usually have to find an alien or old world item (like an AR15 rifle) and research it. This will give you a new concept to research like 'assault rifles'. Then you have to draft blueprints for each individual item you want to be able to build. Finally once that's done you can manufacture them. It's not a game ruiner but annoying at the start of the game because it takes a long time before you can manufacture anything.

Railroads is good fun if you like management games. But it has limited scope in terms of missions, which seem to go from really easy to impossible with no in between. I can't really complain for a quid though.

Cheap vintage games are definitely one of the great things about PCs, but I've not been very comfortable playing on a PC for years so I stick to my consoles.

I'm back onto the Prince Of Persia series at the moment (playing on PS3 emulating the PS2). Currently I'm playing the third one, 'The Two Thrones'. The first one has the best story, but the third one has a nice sense of grandeur and a really fantastic last ten minutes of play - which tops off the previous ten-ish hours of great level design very nicely. Hooray for revisiting old favourites!

Rayman raving rabbids 2. It can get boring in single player. The musical rounds are the best. I'm still on an adrenaline rush from it. It'll be great at the party i'm going to tommorrow.

^ Zomg! Rayman was my childhood! I almost forgot.

I'm still content with a very old disc with about 50 games which were already old at the time. Things like Jill of the Jungle, Hugo 1, 2 and 3, Pickle Wars, Bats, Aquanoid...

Hugo! Blimey, that's a blast from the past.

Aquanoid is a new one on me. Is it a rip off of Arkanoid? That was a game where you had to bounce a ball into a wall of bricks to make them disappear.

Currently I'm playing Assassin's Creed on PS3. I've been going for about four or five hours and I'm really enjoying it. There are aspects that I would have done differently, such as the guards in the rural areas being ridiculously sensitive to your presence except if you are going at the s-l-o-w-e-s-t pace possible, but mostly it's been a lot of fun.

I was playing Resident Evil 4 on the Wii which is possibly one of the best games I know, I love the way it actually takes skill aiming at zombies heads to blow them to bits. Also World in Conflict for the PC is quite a good game, USA vs USSR if fictional invasion of America. =]

I've just got a PSP, well Paul got it for me with his discount and my money and I'm not going to get it until Friday but technically I have one.

I think he got me Sonic Rivals 2, Tomb Raider Legends and The Sims 2 Pets. Anyone got any advice for good games?
