I really like making collages. I usually only do it for cards because they take absolutely ages to get right, but I made one last night that I'm really pleased with:

I've been collecting small bits of interesting stuff for years and occasionally they all work together...

Dada eat your heart out! I love the bit of map in the corner- I am not sure what it is, but I love maps when included in art work. They can mean so many things to both the artist and the viewer and I am always intrigued as to where they are of, and why they have been included.

It's a bit of the public transport system in Hong Kong. My parents were over there at around this time last year and bought back a few bits and pieces. In this case, I mainly used it for the visual style - the chained snake of the lines worked well with the composition of the area that I wanted to cover, and the colours complimented the piece by balancing the fine blue matrix of the envelope inside on the top right corner.

I've always had a thing about the far east, and Hong Kong has been a big influence over the cyberpunk aesthetic so it was fitting to use it here. The words in the background are from a library reminder for loads of books I forgot to take back during my thesis, so they are all about cyberpunk. Frankenstein is the perfect symbol of so much of modernity, so he went in there. The hand is from a photo of Monet [EDIT: or was it Matisse? Ah well, the point was the same!] - which was picked for being a bit of a joke about the lack of classical materials in the picture - and the wings next to it are grafted on, making a visual chimera that works with the theme.

Aaaaand there's loads more stuff that I'm not going to write about at the moment because I fancy a cup of tea! biggrin.gif

In general, I resist 'map art' because it's so often done by people at degree level, but I think that if it's there for a good reason then it's justified, but it can be easily over-used.

You should create a Flash animation that shows your collage, and visitors can click on each individual portion to see what it is, where you got it from, what it means, etc....

Interact with art!!

Hmm.

I tried art online, and it turns out that no-one gives a damn, which is why we're all here in the first place!

I'm a glass half-full kind of person, but I'm also a realist and completely aware that very few people are interested in looking at arty stuff.

Or maybe its that they're intrested and are unable to comprehend the meaning of it, get frustrated, and walk away.

I liked your arty stuff
(Seconded by Wytukaze)
I spent more of my time looking through it, when I first came across Matazone, than the animations.

I Second that! Then again there was only maybe.... 3 or 4 animations at the time.... In fact, I remember spending ALOT of time looking at your webart, I always got lost in all the different links and crazyness.
