I'm getting a new surround sound setup for my room at home, and i've found a small home theatre setup, and I would like some advice on if it would be worth getting the setup that i am looking at. Here is the address:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TELEFUNKEN-HOME-THE...1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks in advance. sad.gif

I'm not a specialist, but Telefunken are a decent brand and it's got enough power to deafen you. As long as your TV can connect up to it then it should do the job nicely; however, the analogue audio input for the aux would suggest that it's not really designed for a home theatre set-up. If you're being an audio snob then you'll want a really decent connection to the TV, which is probably best provided by a scart cable, although there may be other people on here who know more about this (SPS should be able to help - SirPsychoSexy).

You might be best off getting a DVD player with 5.1 capability - that will be designed and optimised for a home theatre setup. I've got one from LG, which gives fantastic sound but the remote control appears designed for... Well, it gives easier access to slow motion and looping sections of film than it does to fast-forward, suggesting that it was made for people who like watching a certain genre of entertainment. Maybe they're suggesting that people who buy 5.1 set-ups spend a lot of time by themselves!

Hard to tell from a few lines of text and a picture, but it looks reasonable. Judging by the size of the speaker cabinets, it looks like it may be true 5.1 rather than a sub that provides all the bass and 5 horrible tinny little speakers.
Anyway, I've got a hangover at the moment, so I'll leave you to it.

All seems pretty standard, as Mata said, assuming you've got a DVD player with the appropriate outputs you shouldn't have an issue, looks like you may have to buy the connecting cables seperately though.
On a side note, and this may sound strange, try to turn it off when it's not in use, funny things can happen to amps that are always left on...

Look! YAY!! biggrin.gif

That's my system. It's in room, and at the moment, our tv has been effected by magnets, and has yet to be degaussed, so I am currently using a computer moniter on my xbox, via a vga box. The sub that came with it is nice nut I couldn't help what I did. I undid the original one, disconnected it, hooked same long audio cables, double it at the end, and hooked up my bro's dual seven inch venoms. The system sounds great! I'm very pleased.

Hahahaha... Your room is only 9'x9' and you've got that much kit in it? Crikey, a mouse in slippers would sound loud in that size room!

It must be interesting with all those hard surfaces there...tiled floor, plain plastered walls.

Not sure if interesting is maybe the right word...

I just have a couple more questions now about my system:
First of all, with our tv (which I am now using in my room, with the speakers), it has the video inputs; either Y, Cb, Cr, or Y, Pb, Pr, on the back, and my dvd player has support for both (the terminals say Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr), and i've connected them to the tv using normal rca cords, (btw: I also have the normal single rca plug video plug hooked up) and when i go into the dvd player menu, and change the video type to 'P-scan Y/Pb/Pr', the tv screen goes wierd and distorted for a moment then, it doesn't display the dvd signal at all. Any advice would be very appriciated. sad.gif

Also, the other of my questions is, with the subwoofer setup that i have altered (see furhter above post that has all the pictures), when i have the sub at the normal level and raise the master volume to about 60-62 (very loud, system goes up to 79), the subwoofer starts to 'pop,' and 'crackle,' and also, something i noticed is that i have had to hook up just one of the drivers, because, for some reason, when i set it up so that there is the main signal going to one subwoofer, and i hook up a second cord to the main to use the second driver, the subs start to pop at much lower volumes. wink.gif Any help, advice, or explanations would be greatly appreciated, thx smile.gif

BTW: Just one last little thing, do you think it would be good/ improve the sound, to lay down some carpet in the room? Thx again in advance to anyone who can offer some advice. smile.gif

Is the distortion from the sub intermitant or constant? If it's the former that would suggest a bad connection somewhere either where you've split the signal or within the woofer itself, if it's the latter then it would more likely mean the amp is throwing out a signal too powerful for it to handle or that the drivers are failing.

If you are having trouble with a resonance (or a very quick echo) within the room, which is likely if the room is an actual square (some rooms tend to be ever so slightly out), then a carpet would definately help, hanging stuff on the walls could help too, nothing special just stuff to break up the shape of the room and stop it being just a box.

With the sub, it seems to pop on some kinds of 'surprising' things, like it may do so on an explosion, or a hard beat in a song. In terms of power, the booklet for the system states that it ouputs 100W RMS for the sub channel, and on the back of the venoms subs, they say 100W (RMS). One other thing that I thought might have something to do with it is that, the amplifier response signal is around 15Hz-300Hz, which might be too high pictched for those subs, because as you can see in the picture above, they have a pretty long-throw setup.
