I got a lynx called Amantha. I have to admit, I've not really been looking forward to the His Dark Materials films. I have a horrible feeling they're not going to turn out too well.

Am I the only one who sees the film name and thinks "It's not a compass, it's an alethiometer dammit!"?

Gibbon called Lysianthia

Didn't she think it was a compass at first? I always thought the title was a reference to that--they can't very well call it "the golden althiometer" and have people going "ah yes, the althiometer"

Ocelot named Gabriel. What on earth is a gibbon?

Lion named Themias. I'm just praying they don't sanitise it. Is Philip Pulman on board?

You may wish to stop doing that praying. The first I heard about the making of this film was that the Church wasn't going to be called the Church, so as not to offend the fundamentalist Christian audience. I assume that this will be extended to the rest of the story; i.e. most of the third book.

Also, does anyone else think that website kinda spoils some elements of the story a little? I'm pretty sure that some of the stuff it tells you in the story bit you don't find out for quite a while in the books.

Edit: In reference to the title, wasn't Northern Lights renamed The Golden Compass in the US?

I got a snow leopard named Agapius.

...I am absolutely nothing like the only person I can think of who had a snow leopard as his daemon in the novels. blink.gif At least, I hope I'm not!

On imdb, the plot summary for the movie refers to the Church as a "mysterious organization." Pft. I am half looking forward to the films, and half dreading how they're going to butcher them.

It was originally called Northern Lights, renamed The Golden Compass for the US. What's wrong with Northern Lights?

EDIT: Just seen Greeneyes already said that. Ah well

Mines currently a chimpanzee: http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/?87866

I'll probably go see the film, but it sucks that they're removing all the religion parts, when thats such a big part of the story. Are they going to make 3 films, or just the first one?

Amantha would've been a good name for me considering Samantha is my real name smile.gif

I'm still waiting for my daemon to settle into it's true form. I'm currently a tiger. Raaaar biggrin.gif
