mata, how do you draw your animations, i mean, do you draw them on paper beforehand or do you "draw" them straight to screen/flash? and how do you do it?

It's all done straight into Flash. For nearly all of the animations I was using a mouse, but these days I have a lovely Wacom graphics tablet to draw with.

My usual method is to write a rough script in something like Word, then write one-line descriptions of what's going on during that line of speech. What happens next depends on the animation: for a Mr Snaffleburger animation I'll record the audio, editing and changing the dialogue as I go to make it fit with natural speech, but for things like the Little Goth Girl series I will often make the animation first then record the audio and fit it to the visuals. I think that these days I'm tending towards doing the audio work before doing the visuals. Audio is harder to make sound right than visuals are to tweak.

When working on the characters, I break them into small chunks that I can animate individually, or that I can reuse in later animations. This means that it should be faster to make an animation later in a series, but the amount of detail that satisfies my eye becomes continually more demanding so savings on the characters get taken up by time spent on backgrounds or tweaking the animations.

I do occasionally use Flash to sketch out frames of animation before I get the full animation working, but these are only used as a base for later work and don't turn up in the final animations.

I hope that answers your question, but feel free to ask anything else!

yep, that pretty much answers it. thanks!
oh, this is completely out of topic but can we expect any little goth girl sequel anytime soon? I've been checking this site out when it was all black and before sarah started talking, and i haven't seen a new one since the open mike night.

Unfortunately, it's not likely to happen soon, but it is going to happen eventually. Currently I just don't have the time required to make new episodes, and especially not LGG ones (which have always been the most time consuming). I'm updating my webcomic twice a week (and I rather like the ones I've just drawn for this week's episodes), but that's all I've got time for at the moment.

I'm glad that you've decided to join my forums, it's always nice to hear from people who were on my site back in the old days!

The best thing to do in regard to LGG updates is to join my mailing list from the links on the animation/menu pages. That way you'll get emailed whenever there is a main-site update. I don't send updates about my comic - that would be daft!
