If anyone knows anything about this sort of stuff, I would very much appreciate some help. We recently upgraded to something like 800kbp/s broadband. And it's been working well for a while, but now when I try downloading anything the download speed is about 15kbp/s. I've tried the internet speed test and the results range from anywhere between 800 - 1,400 kbp/s, for downloading speed, but when I actually download, it won't go any higher than 30kbp/s. This is happening on my computer, and I tested and it seems to be happening on my parents' computer, although I'm not so sure if it's happening on my brothers' computers. This is very aggravating and I havn't been able to get very helpful advice from old Google either.
If anyone has any questions towards this, (or answers) I would be very happy for some help. :'(.

Oh, forgive me but there's been a bit of a mistake, and, well, it's been figured out. blush.gif sozziez.

What was the mistake? I would guess that 30k was the speed that the servers were sending the data, and not a reflection of the speed that you could potentially receive it, but I could be wrong. What was causing it?

Well, previously, we have had problems with the LAN (local area network) in terms of a certain computer using up bandwidth or something happening with certain programs etc. which is mainly why we got better internet speed. Although, I spoke a little further with my brothers and we have established that it is the service provider or whatever that was causing the problem and not something locally. So it hasn't been fixed yet, but it should be soon.

PS I should also note that we were upgraded to 800mbps and not kbps (bits not bytes) and the speed test was saying ~1000kbps which is still pretty slow.

You probably mean 8mbps, or 8000kbps, not 800mbps - that would be enough to run several very decent servers!

I've had problems with my connection occasionally. It's sometimes tricky to tell if the problem is with the line itself or the software that I've got active. It's not helped that BT (British Telecom, who own pretty much all of the phone lines in the UK) always completely deny that anything could possibly ever be anything to do with them. I guess it's a good defence mechanism against the average low-level of technical knowledge in the world, but it's very annoying when you know what you're talking about!
