So just last Wednesday here in Chicago it was like 8 degrees with a wind chill of -10, this weekend it has been in the 50's and 60's and today we had a high of 65 and it's not storming here are some shots I just took about 15 - 30 mins ago.

Now we have had some storms in January that I can remember but nothing like this, we are under a tornado watch until 9PM CST. It's crazy and then this weekend it's supposed to be in the 30's.

It's raining here! Really, I mean... It's JANUARY... I want snow, we have nowhere near as much snow as previous years, I even saw bare ground the other day while outside. Maybe Gore is onto something here tongue.gif

Actually, that's a point. I presume LoLo is ok, as she has been posting recently, but here have been some BIG storms in the Sacramento area (a lady from work has lost her chimney and power).

Yes this hit California first over the weekend, but there was what looks like a an EF2 tornado just across the state line in Wisconsin, saw the pictures of it on the news, pretty crazy. It's funny though we were above average for snow in Chicago for Decemeber. I'll post some more photos in a few minutes.

I forgot to say in my last post how awesome your lightning photos are. What do you use in terms of shutter speed/ camera etc?

These must be fake: lightning never strikes the same place twice... Unless all folk wisdom is lies, which would mean my world would collapse.

Nice pictures. I really hope whatever was getting hit was designed to be a lightning conductor, otherwise it might be a bit more drippy in the morning than originally intended.

They could just be a series of photographs taken in quick succession, as lightning isn't static (lolpun).

Were you using multiple FPS? I haven't fiddled with that on my film camera as a roll would be gone in a about 5 seconds seeing as it does about 5 fps tongue.gif That's one reason digital would be nice, but I just don't think I could move away from my film, I'm too attached! I suppose it won't be a problem if I end up pursuing a career in the field - the general population won't mind wedding, school etc. pictures being digital. As far as art goes, I'll stick to film!

Very nice photos, I especially like the ones with the sky all purpley as it contrasts nicely with the orangey light in the street. I've never tried capturing lightning - we don't get it very often here!

Thank you, it's actually a lot fun to shoot lightning it's like a game, so I really enjoy storms. Well it used to suck when I had a film camera because basically I set the shutter speed at about 5 seconds, on shutter priority so the F-stop is automatically picked. Now that I have a digital SLR I just ended remember that I could do timed shots and hooked it up to my laptop and set it to take a picture every 7 seconds so as the shutter was closing it would reopen for the next shot. Needless to say I shot nearly 600 pictures and got about 18 good lighting shots. It's kind of firing with a machine gun, you just hope you hit something, lol. There are actually lightning detecting devices that react to the increase in static electricity and will open the shutter, but they cost to much for me. Also the Sears Tower is built to be hit by lightning, here is my favorite shot I have of the Sears Tower getting struck by lightning.

Those are quite gorgeous, I used to watch that show on Discovery or.. the Weather Channel... the one about the people that hunt down storms and take lightning photographs? Very interesting stuff.

Anyway, the weather here has been awfully strange, it's between 70-80 degrees (in JANUARY) and we had tornado warnings today and freakishly strong winds (on the one day I wear a flirtatiously short and frisky skirt). Wtfm8? I live in the Delta - it's not like we usually get snow, but for goodness' sake, it should at least be frigidly cold (not that I'm really complaining, per say, I haven't got good cold-weather clothing).

Global warming is not a myth, of this I am fairly certain.

Lighning is actually more likely to strike in the same place more than once because electrisity always goes for the path of least resistance. The old folk wisdom is all lies! LIES I tell you! It's all a conspiracy... smile.gif

Great pic of the seers tower being struck. Me, my sister and her boyfriend were playing with his camera one night in the garden. We set the shutter speed to 30 seconds, 'drew' a smiley face with a torch and walked away. Good times. smile.gif

I remember when I was learning how to use the camera and everything I did that with a laser pointer

It's widely agreed by 'them' that it's not a myth. Only arguments now remain:

If it's our fault
If we can do anything about it before it kills large amounts of us

(General scientific opinion suggests the answers 'partly yes', and 'probably not'.)
