Google seems to have failed me in my search for a simple, step-by-step set of instructions on how to get ScummVM working on the Wii. It's possible, that much I'm sure of, but everything seems to rely on me already having done something else, then typing stuff and turning thrice widdershins... You get the idea. Does anyone else know how to do this?

Thanks, that might be a good place to ask. I'll have to get IRC set up on my machine again!

From what I can tell from a few minutes of googling, the 'Wii' version of ScummVM is actually a Gamecube port that you can run on the Wii using a homebrew launch disk such as Datel's SD Media Launcher - basically a boot disk to allow you to load homebrew games from an SD card. Having to pay for that makes it seem a less attractive prospect.

I believe there used to be a hack to install a 'Homebrew Channel' to allow you to run further homebrew software from an SD card on the Wii, but the more recent firmwares prevent you from installing it (though they won't remove it) so if you've done a system update recently or ran any games that include the update (Mario Kart Wii) that's probably not a viable option. sad.gif

[edit]I just read the readme for the Wii version of ScummVM and it pretty much confirms what I wrote above[/edit]

Ah... Blast. Cheers for the info.

From a quick Google it looks like the SD media launchers are being blocked by the firmware updates too. Damn. I really wanted to play those old Lucas Arts games in the living room without the faff of setting up loads of cables and laptop doofers.

Shame really. sad.gif

I just played through Beneath a Steel Sky (not originally a SCUMM game but runs in ScummVM free to download on their site) on my laptop. Would have been cool to be able to play it on the Wii in the living room though. Would give me a reason to turn the Wii on again too. >_>

It's a shame that console developers have to block out 'homebrew' software in the way that they do. I can see why they do it though, since they need to protect their brand's image and 90% of the time giving people the capability to run homebrew/unofficial software also allows you to run copies of commercial licensed games. Some middle ground would be nice.

I think I read on team twiizers' website, that version 0.1 beta 1 of the Twilight hack, is compatible with the latest wii firmware.

Everything needed to run the twilight hack and install the Homebrew channel and scummVM: http://hbc.hackmii.com/

I might have to try this. It'll make a change from Guitar Hero (the only thing I still play on the Wii) and it'll make it more useful than a white box with a blinking blue drive slot. I really should read that message some time...

Dammit, I've been spotted! Hide, hide!! ph34r.gif

It's the number of posts I need to make to overtake Cheese is Funny. Although I must confess, I've become a little disillusioned with this goal because it seems a bit fruitless. I guess just talking to myself in a big, empty forum doesn't quite do justice to the effort.

Still, you did give me an excuse to chalk up another post, so now it's 80.
